This is quite hard for me to review as this is my first Cara Hunter book and at the time of joining the blog tour I wasn’t aware this was book six of a series and only realised this once I started reading it and put it on goodreads as currently reading so I do think that sadly took away some of the reading experience as I felt like I had missed out on things from previous books.

What I did like was the character ‘recap’ as such at the start of the book, with specific things about them and what rank they were. Quite a unique addition to a book I think.

I was engrossed at the start of the book, I love a good murder and the whole trying to work out who had done it. Police procedurals are probably my favourite type of reads.

As I got further in the book I think I struggled with the format and the addition of newspaper articles, police interviews and similar information. I became a little distracted from what was actually going on.

Sadly this wasn’t enjoyed as much as I’d hoped. I think I need to start from the first book and then reread hope to die.

Yet another superb Adam Fawley book - I just love this series and it keeps getting better and better.

This instalment has a really twisty, involved plot that unfolds beautifully and yet terribly tragically, but we also learn so much more about Fawley and his team, and they are like a group old friends now. Despite their differences and ambitions, they are rock solid at solving the case.

An excellent novel.

A tense narrative filled with twists and turns that had me riveted. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I thoroughly enjoyed Hope to Die, the latest addition to the DI Adam Fawley series by Cara Hunter. I am a fan of this series and eagerly anticipate each installment. This is a testament to the author's skill in crafting such fast paced and engaging stories.

One of the strengths of this series of books is the well-drawn characters, and their consistency from book to book. DI Fawley is a complex main character, whilst also being very relatable. The supporting team members are also well-drawn and add depth to the story. I love the addition of the Fawley Files at the beginning of the books. It’s a helpful tool to keep track of these characters and their personalities before you start the new book.

This book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions, as we follow DI Fawley and his team as they race against time to catch a dangerous kidnapper. The author does an excellent job of creating a sense of urgency and tension throughout the book. The plot is intricately woven, with plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end.

Overall, "Hope to Die" is a fantastic read that will appeal to fans of police procedurals and suspense thrillers, and keep them hooked. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced, engrossing read by a skilled author.

Thank you to Netgalley, Penguin UK and Cara Hunter for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin for this book and sorry for the time it took to read!

I've read a few of Cara's books and this was absolutely brilliant read and certainly didn't disappoint.
Great storyline, good characters and very well paced with how the story unfolded. Also very well written.

Highly recommended and totally 5 stars.

I first tried reading Hope to Die last year. I’d requested it from NetGalley because it sounded right up my street (we all know I’m a sucker for crime fiction). Unfortunately, it landed right in the middle of one of my increasingly frequent reading slumps and, after picking it up excitedly, I just as quickly put it down. It just wasn’t grabbing me.

Now I’m reading regularly again, I wanted to give it another go. This time, it was much easier going and I quickly fell into the rhythm of the writing that I’d struggled with before – the book jumps from first to third person and between multiple characters as well as throwing in emails and newspaper articles. In fact, I actually started to enjoy it as something that I don’t come across very often. It made things feel fresh. And it made things feels interesting.

The story itself was interesting too because it wasn’t your typical ‘who dunnit’ but more an unravelling of decades of lies told by some very unreliable narrators. I really enjoyed this aspect. What I didn’t enjoy as much – and I’m being careful here because of spoilers – was the final chapters that sought to tie everything up in a neat bow. It all felt too forced and I’m not sure I ‘got it’. I still can’t figure out what the police were trying to achieve, or whether justice was really done.

As a result, the high I had been on through most of the book fell flat and I ended up disappointed. Which is a real shame. It means I feel I can only give the book three stars. However, I would be interested in reading more in the series to find out if the ending was a blip.

Absolutely loved this - another instalment in the excellent Adam Fawley series. An intruder is shot in a lonely farmhouse. Who is he and what is his connection to a woman convicted of killing her baby and a search for justice

Sixth in this series featuring Detective inspector Adam Fawley and his team. Complex story with lots of twists.

I have read all the DCI Fawley mysteries and this one definitely did not disappoint. I have loved all six mysteries and have read them in order, however this could be read as a stand-alone book as the author gives a good synopsis or the characters and previous important information.

The storyline keeps you fully immersed, guessing who done it and why. It’s full of surprises and family secrets. and It keeps you trying to unravel what you think happens next and then leaves you shocked at the end.

Cara Hunter has such a unique style of writing and I love that you never know what to expect, they don’t have chapters which means you get truly lost in the story and just want to keep on reading. There are loads of breaks though with different content such as interview transcripts, emails and phone messages and then newspaper and social media feeds. The only other authors who I know have done this are Janice Hallet and Holly Jackson - who I also love btw! It just makes the book feel so immersive and stands out from the crowd, making you want to know more. You feel so much more involved in the story as well and your mind just doesn’t spinning.

There were so many questions in this book and I really couldn’t predict how it was going to finish - I did guess one of the main twists but there were a lot of things that I didn’t see coming.

Honestly Cara just leaves you wanting more and more but in a really good way, I’m very tempted to start her next one on here asap as I want to stay in the world of DI Fawley and his team!

Thank you to Netgalley, Penguin General UK and Cara Hunter for an ARC in return for an honest review.

What a book! As usual, Cara Hunter has written another masterpiece. The DC Fawley series is one of my favourites and this instalment does not disappoint. It is full of sharp twists and turns which are unexpected and thrilling. It is a dark crime thriller which everyone will love.

This is a great read for fans of police procedural! I found the format of the book intriguing: police interview forms, psychiatric reports, copies of emails, transcripts of phone calls, interviews from Netflix ‘real crime’ and newspaper clippings - it certainly made for compelling reading.

To find out this story was sparked from an idea created by a real case made it a more interesting concept to consider.

Being reintroduced to the ‘team’ at the start of the book made it much easier to fall back in with old friends. If you have read previous DI Adam Fawley books, then it really is a comfort to welcome them back, although I think this book could also be read as a stand-alone.

I very much felt I was in the thick of this investigation, empathising when they came up against a dead-end and celebrating when they found new leads. It is a tricky case with plenty of twists and shocks along the way. The pace naturally picks up in the second half, alongside the investigation and the urgency of solving the case.

A cracking and thoroughly enjoyable read!

Hope to Die is the sixth book in the DI Fawley series, it follows the same handful of characters and their lives whilst solving more crime. I always enjoy seeing each of the characters develop more and find it interesting to see how the story unfolds, not just solving the crime but their personal lives too- it’s addictive.

Cara Hunter has delivered another great instalment in her DI Adam Fawley series. As usual, the story is told using different types of narrative and media, but this time, she really outdid herself by delivering practically a whole Netflix true crime documentary!

This story begins with a shooting. Apparently, a burglary gone wrong. But soon it becomes obvious there's much more to this than meets the eye. Soon, Fawley finds himself dealing with a possible miscarriage of justice in a high profile case involving a child's murder. With the press watching their every move, the team need to be sure they get to the truth this time. But when you have someone who uses the truth to lie, it seems impossible to unravel the mystery of "Milly Liar" and her missing child.

This is a pacy and intriguing story. We never really find out a motive for the main 'villain' of this story. But I'm OK with that. Not everything has to be explained in detail - sometimes it's better for the story to be implicit so we can make up our own minds and opinions. It's one of the great things about Hunters books. She trusts her readers to do that. I loved this book and hope we'll be seeing more of Adam and his team again soon.

Another great book in this fantastic series. Cara hunter is an auto buy author for me.

I loved the characterisation and enjoyed how different in character all of the detectives and police officers were. I also thought the concept of the story was refreshing and I loved how things kept unravelling . The main character was pretty loathsome and I’m glad she got what was coming to her in the end. I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Another great read from Cara Hunter. I have read and loved all in the DI Fawley series, this book included. I enjoy catching up with the main characters. Loved the character recap. Great storyline that gripped me to the end. I particularly liked the epilogue as it tied everything up well. Looking forward to the next one.

A story that definitely had me hooked from the start but one that I think could have developed the main characters a bit more.
To start with I felt there were too many characters, secondly I would have liked Camilas character explored abit more especially her as a teen and her post partum depression. The author did present her in the first person in parts of the story so why was there no exploration in her own words into why she did what she did.

Overall a great story, a quick read which was engaging and entertaining. I would definitely read more in this series.
