This is the sixth in the DI Adam Fawley series and as good, if not better, than the five before it. This novel is a well plotted and disturbing read with pages full of thrills, twists, surprises, reveals and an explosive ending.

I could not wait to start this book! I needed to what the fuss was all about as this series has not only been a Richard and Judy book club pick but also been selected to be adapted in a TV series.
Now I know and now I have to start the series from the very beginning as I am hooked!
I love police procedural stories and I love the town of Oxford. This brings it all to life with an amazing main character and group of secondary characters just as fascinating.
This is a highly enjoyable book and I am delighted there are many more to read from this series.

When a body is found in a farmhouse in a gruesome state, DI Adam Fawley is one of the first on the scene. The murder leads Fawley to a convoluted investigation from the past, and a family torn apart by a devastating crime involving the disappearance of a child.

Can Fawley piece together the facts of history with the clues in the present? Sometimes the truth is the hardest answer to face up to.

Well what can I say that hasn’t already been said about this wonderful series. Cara Hunter has pulled it off again, producing a real page turner, with revelations and twists galore, in this complex, but utterly absorbing police procedural. Another winner for this accomplished writer.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin General UK for an advance copy in return for a fair and honest review

I really look forward to reading this series and this latest one is no exception. Another great plot with all the police characters I have come to enjoy, together with a sprinkling of new faces. A man is found with his face shot off in a remote house, home to an old married couple. Who is the man? Why was he there and why doesn’t the couple’s story of an intruder ring true? I’m not going to give away the story but safe to say this is a twisted storyline delicately handled by the extremely talented Cara Hunter. Although this is a series you could easily read this as a stand alone, but then you’ll find yourself reading the back catalogue, so you might as well start at the beginning.

🚜 BOOK TOUR REVIEW 🚜

Hope To Die by @carahunterauthor

Thanks to Lou Nyuar at @penguinukbooks for my gifted copy of the book and for having me along on the tour.

This is book #6 in the DI Adam Fawley series but I haven’t read the previous instalments. This did not however hinder my enjoyment of the book.

This book is another showing of a talented writer who gets you thinking it’s going one way but actually it’s not!

The story does a draw comparison between the workings of two very different mothers within the story, one of which is Adam’s wife and the other the wife under suspicion. The acknowledgements in the book does indicate that part of the story is based on the Australian case of Keli Lane which you may want to look up for more background.

Overall a very enjoyable read with some breakneck twists and turns is sure to keep readers pinned to their seats!

I absolutely LOVE this series. The characters are amazing, the plots are incredibly clever and they keep me up all night! However this is probably my least favourite in the series, it just didn't pack the same punch that the others have and I felt quite underwhelmed with the ending.

I loved that the murders were based on real life murders, the true crime fan in me really enjoyed that element. I can't wait for the next instalment.

Hope to Die is the 6th book in the Inspector Fawley books which are set in Oxford CID. While it can be read alone, I really recommend reading the books in order. In this one, the police are called to a remote house owned by an elderly couple and a man (who the couple say is a burglar) has been shot in the head. But something doesn't add up. The man has no ID and with no face to help identify him, the police seem to have their work cut out.
A little warning that there are references to adoption and child murder.
Recommend.

Anyone who enjoys a well planned and written thriller would be hard pressed to give this book less than a five star review. I was totally hooked from the first page to the last. Yes there are a lot of characters to keep in your head ( especially if you’re like me and reading this on a kindle) but they are so expertly drawn it’s not that hard to tell them apart and that really is my only very minor complaint.
Rarely did the reveals show what I was expecting and nothing predictable about the ending either. I loved it.

Cara Hunter has done it again! Hope to Die is another thrilling and gripping police procedural murder mystery. As always, the given synopsis barely scratches the surface of the story and the full picture is multi-faceted, complex and heartbreaking, revealed layer by layer, twist by shocking twist.

Cara Hunter‘s signature style – including police interview transcripts, court documents and medical reports along with Fawley’s informal, conspiratorial narration – give the reader the feeling of being ‘one of the team’ and of trying to solve the mystery alongside the characters. This unique set up and incredible storylines, unbelievably inspired by real events, make the Fawley books unmissable. I was torn between racing to the end and trying to make it last more than a couple of days!

I already can’t wait for the next book and am really hopeful for the upcoming TV adaptation.

Cara Hunter particularly excels when writing about families and the strange, sometimes horrifying and damaging, ways in which they interact. Hope To Die takes this theme of family and does something intriguing with it. I found the book most compelling when the team were directly investigating the shooting of a young man, rather than the sections dealing with the historic background to the case, which at times ventured into the far-fetched. It's really tricky to say more without inadvertently giving spoilers, but overall it wasn't my favourite of the series, lacking some of the urgent pacing of previous books.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Hope to Die by Cara Hunter is book 6 in the DI Adam Fawley police series and again it is a really good read. The storyline is about a woman sentenced to prison for the murder of her son, when he was only a new born baby.
Now near the end of her sentence it is discovered that the baby didn’t die but 21 years later is found dead at his grandparents home, having been shot dead.
An intriguing story with interesting characters with plenty of twists and turns.
Highly recommended.

Being the 6th book in the DI Fawley series I did wonder if Hope To Die would live up to expectation however it far surpassed it- I think this might be my favourite Cara Hunter yet! So good and fast paced I devoured it in two days! So so good, kept me guessing the whole time.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I don't know how she keeps doing it. If you've read any Cara Hunter you'll have an idea what you're getting with an Adam Fawley novel. Hope To Die takes it up a gear again, Cara has always clevery used transcripts of interviews, texts & emails to make sure the reader has all the information they need without those weird awkward conversations between characters that would never happen in real life. In Hope To Die there is a brilliantly written Netflix documentary ensuring we get the full backstory & secondary characters opinions without having to mess with the timeline.

As always the team & their dynamic is completely engaging, there are new characters to root for & one I'm hoping gets put in his place in book seven.

The story itself is fascinating, made even more so once you read the authors note, & kept me guessing throughout with revelations down to the very last line.

I can't wait to see what's next for the team.

This is book 6 in the series and while I haven’t read all of them, it can totally be read as a standalone as the book starts by introductions of the main characters and a bit of background on them, which is always helpful for a new readers like myself.
I love police procedurals books and this one didn’t disappoint one second.
What starts as a Joe Doe crime investigation, will evolve into a very twisted and suspenseful thriller type story.
The detectives are put into the spotlight for some secrets that came to life when this case proves to be tied up with a cold one from years ago. The pressure to find out what actually happened is really high and so are the stakes to keep a certain appearance in both professional and personal life.
I enjoyed all the small bits and pieces that the author sprinkled throughout the story and it kept me engaged at all times. I was really curious to see how this will be solved.

🆓📖Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley

I read Hope to Die in one afternoon. I found the book unputdownable. I’m not a big fan of police procedurals but I’ve enjoyed reading all of Cara Hunter’s novels. I like the way she places the reader in the centre of the police investigation, and the different points of view and short scenes make for a pacy and gripping read. There are a few plot twists that surprised me every time, and towards the end I got swept up with the sense that time was running out and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I thought the use of social media and things like the Netflix transcripts worked well and added to the interest of the story.

I’ve been hearing such good things about this crime series for a while now and I’ve been keen to jump in so I was thrilled at the chance to read Hope to Die, the sixth instalment in the DI Adam Fawley series. First off, I must say I haven’t read the previous books in the series (although I have now bought them all and will be working my way through them) but that in no way hampered my enjoyment of this fantastic book. Hunter even, extremely helpfully, includes an quick introduction to the members of Fawley’s team to bring you up to speed which I loved!

Another aspect of Hope to Die that I loved is the way Hunter used multimedia to tell the story. There were interview transcripts, letters, voicemails, Netflix true crime documentaries and newspaper articles which made the entire reading experience incredibly immersive and exciting. The case at the centre of this police procedural is satisfyingly complex and consistently surprising but also carries real emotional weight. There really is nothing I could say that is not overwhelmingly positive and I am so pleased that I now have five other surely brilliant books to catch up on. Hope to Die is the perfect police procedural – smart, propulsive, masterfully plotted and deeply compelling. A very easy five stars from me!

I LOVE Cara Hunter and her DCI Fawley books. They are the first police procedural books that I read and by far the best done. She gets the balance right between the main mystery and the life of the police team. There's always so many little pieces of the puzzle to fit together. This book was no exception.

Adam Fawley Book 6 was well worth the wait.
As usual Cara starts with a little information about the main characters and their characteristics this makes it easy for a reader to read as a stand-alone or out of sequence.
Set before lockdown so no Covid affecting the storyline and timings which was great.
In this book Adam and his team are investigating the death of an at the time unknown person. He has been shot by the elderly residents of a secluded farm house in a suspected burglary, but is everything as it seems.
I found the storyline interesting and at times couldn’t put it down.
There were times it felt a little disjointed as it was either told in third person or 1st person (Adam ) and I wasn’t overly keen on that but in general I enjoyed this story and would highly recommend

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title

It seems straightforward, a man is shot dead by the aged owner of an isolated house, he claims it was a burglar. However DI Fawley is not so sure and when DNA links the dead man to a notorious case about a child killer and then he discovers that the householders were also involved in this case it all blows up. Now Fawley and his team are fighting to find the truth, both for the dead man now and the lost child in 1997, and all in the spotlight of the media.
Hunter is a consummate writer of very modern police procedurals which draw on classic plotlines but are firmly embedded in the here and now. I love the use of social media references and excerpts from tweets, comments etc as they round out the plot. Here not all the ends are completely tied off, there are gaping holes that are not filled, but the story is very clever with a breathless final set of scenes.

DI Fawley is back with a bang! A body has been found at a farm house in the middle of nowhere after a report of a gunshot. The elderly couple say it was an attempted robbery but things don’t seem to add up… Can Fawley and his team work out the truth? 👮🏽‍♂️

I’ve long been a fan of Cara Hunter and the DI Fawley series so these books are always up there as some of my most anticipated releases. Cara’s writing keeps you guessing throughout whilst continuously weaving multiple story lines effortlessly. The book had me hooked and I couldn’t wait for it all to start piecing together. The little nuggets of information Cara Hunter gives you keep building suspense and give the plot real depth. Personally, my favourite thing about her books is how she uses police transcripts and social media comments alongside the story to give you extra information, the extra addition of Netflix extracts this time was a bonus! 🎥

I’d definitely recommend this book whether you’ve read the previous books or not. It starts with a brief intro to all the characters which I love as a recap so could definitely be read as a stand-alone also! I’m ready for number 7 now please! Thank you to Penguin and Cara for the opportunity to be a part of this blog tour 📕
