K.L. Slater is an awesome author and an auto-read for me, and while “Missing” is a solid thriller, it isn’t my favorite book from the talented Slater. While it’s plenty twisty and turny, I just couldn’t connect with Josie. I found her mental self-flagellation to be a bit repetitive, and I was annoyed at the repeated implication that focusing on her career somehow made her a bad mom. I was excited to see DI Helena Price again, who was a character in another of Slater’s books, and who I hope we see again in the future!

I have absolutely loved every book I’ve read by this author and this is no exception. I loved it and didn’t want it to end!
I read this book very quickly, gulping it down as though I’d been deprived of good fiction for months (which isn’t true at all, I’ve read plenty of great books this year so far, but I have been starved of this level). I’ve been cursing the miserable weather lately, yet I was glad of a gloomy day on which to curl up with this book. I do want, and need, to read it again, though, to properly get under the skin of the story and discover the nuances I may have missed. I give this book a sure fire ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ it is extremely well written, clever and has a lot of mystery and intrigue.

This authors writing style is right up my street, it gets you involved from the start and keeps a fast pace throughout so you can’t put it down (even if you want to) l absolutely love an unpredictable storyline with twists and turns to keep me guessing.l particularly enjoyed the way the background stories unfold and you get a deeper understanding to the characters. A great suspenseful read!

Another enjoyable thriller from KL Slater. The plot is fast moving, exciting and unpredictable but I felt that there were too many twists and revelations to make it credible.

I have read all books from this author but gosh this is a brilliant book, read it in two sittings couldn't put it down and what great characters. Loads of twists and turns and I particularly liked all the different chapters giving background to the main characters in the book.

The ending was absolutely brilliant, I never guessed at all, you think you may have worked it out but no you haven't and I just love how everything 'came together' and was explained too.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough such a brilliant author and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this fantastic ARC.

I love K.L. Slater books so I was excited to get a copy off NetGalley, however this book was a big disapointment for me. I wasn't able to connect with any of the characters. For example, Josie's story didn't intrigue me and I was a little confused by the timeline of events - when did she get in a car accident and have amnesia? It felt like that piece of information was randomly thrown in the plot with no introduction/follow up. The big reveal at the end of the book fell flat for me too.

However I am still a huge K.L. Slater fan so will continue to read all of her new books. Hopefully this was a one-time disapointment for me.

There are lots of books about people and children who are missing out there and so I wondered what would make this one different, I cant say 🤗 except to say there is an interesting take on the subject and some big twists and turns and a few red herrigs thrown in along the way
I was kinda sure I had it worked out but was wrong, the author has the ability to make you think you know…..only to realise you don’t
It is a tense, exciting story with believable characters and a sad life story for some of them, you might feel sympathy with some that surprise you
A brilliantly laid out tale by this always fab storyteller

Oh my goodness what a rollercoaster of a read! It's 2:48am and I'm reeling over this one. WoW! A shocking, remarkable, wonderful thriller.
Amazing story! I loved every page, so many twists and turns.
It's the best psychological thriller I've read all month.
Fantastic read, gripping story and so many surprises! 
This is one of very few books that shocked me.
The deceit and lies are intense and remarkably done.
The characters in the book were well developed and the story was full of unexpected surprises.
Never really had a dull spot in the book.
The storyline kept me glued to the pages.
Missing is a twisty domestic thriller that will keep you guessing right until the very end.
A smart, propulsive, compelling and very well written...
This is one Slater novel you won't want to miss!

It definitely took me a minute to get into it. But once I did I couldn’t stop. K. L. Slater wrote a brilliant piece. So many twists and turns towards the end I would’ve never expected. You think throughout the first half of the story you have an idea of what’s happened, then it kinda changes, still hesitant though to let go of the first suspicion. Until everything you thought is literally turned upside down on you. You’ll catch yourself pausing to just think, “…what in the world?”

Oh my goodness - what an adventure this book was. I've just emerged with bleary eyes, nails bitten and heart thumping after turning the final page of K. L. Slater's latest book. I was grabbed from the first page and stayed awake long into the night reading this thrilling story. A missing child is always cause for panic and I feared so much for the little girl kidnapped from a neighbour's garden. Her mother, Josie, never recovered from the murder of her young brother, Jimmy, several years ago and now the boy's killer is out of jail and prime suspect for the abduction of the little girl. Josie is convinced that it is an open and shut case and that the convicted man, Samuel, is most definitely guilty of repeating his earlier crime but this time against her daughter. Why, then, are the police not moving more quickly? Why hasn't Samuel been arrested? Might his mother have something to hide? I was totally unprepared for the shocks, surprises and final outcome of this amazing domestic thriller. K. L. Slater has once again come up with an ingenious story that challenged all my perceptions and left me breathless at each of the many twists and turns. Absolutely brilliant! I loved it. I have read several books by K.L. Slater, and she can usually be depended on to write a good psych thriller. While Missing is decent, it doesn’t quite meet the standards I have come to expect with her books.
Now, let me qualify this review by saying I thoroughly expect other people will enjoy the book more than I did. My reviews are never to put someone off or change their mind about reading something.
They are solely my opinion and my experience. So, take it with a grain of salt.
I realize that might be confusing, so let me just tell you what worked and didn’t work for me in this psych thriller.
The premise was interesting. Josie suffered a family tragedy when she was younger. As an adult, she is thrust into another perilous situation and is forced to rely on someone who has proven to be untrustworthy in the past.
That’s enough to give anyone pause about trusting someone. But what is Josie to do when her daughter’s safety is at stake?
I thought that Josie was an interesting character, but she didn’t necessarily grab me and want me to root for her in the present. I think maybe that she relied too much on being the victim from the previous event?
Can’t quite put my finger on it, but I didn’t connect with her like I have with past heroines in Slater’s books.
The whole resolution was also a bit more gonzo than her books usually are. I don’t know if she was trying for a new approach. Frankly, a lot of it worked for me, because it was not a usual ending.
There are connections and relationships that are only hinted at through the rest of the book. So, in that regard, she did get a couple of good twists in. I’ve made no secret about my tendency to try to outguess the author. I didn’t succeed this time.
I would still recommend Missing because it was another good effort from K.L. Slater. But be sure to also check out her other books as well

My thoughts:
I always liked K.L. Slater's style of writing, but I loved this book in particular. The people and their pain felt so real to me and I really felt for Josie. I did guess one of the twists (but only because I read lots of books like this and I am familiar with some of the hints a character is presented), but the second major one took me by surprise and had my jaw dropping. Believe me when I say that this is not just another missing-child-thriller.

This was my fifth book by this author, and it's my favorite so far!

When Josie's daughter disappears, she knows who is responsible - Samuel Barlow, who killed her brother years ago before going to prison for it. Now that he is released, she is sure he has taken her daughter. Can she get her back before it is too late? Josie realises that she may have to work with Samuel's mother Maggie, who she has avoided for years. Whatever it takes to get her little girl back...

Another brilliant thriller from K L Slater. A great plot with interesting characters and twists and turns. Loved the ending. Very much recommended.

Missing is another brilliant book by KL Slater and as usual does not disappoint. The story revolves around Josie, a likeable character who lost her brother Jimmy when they were both children. Samuel Barlow who was convicted of Jimmy's murder has been released from prison and Josie fears for her and her daughter Ivy's safety. When Ivy goes missing only days after Samuel has been released Josie is convinced he took her. The story is very gripping and wow the ending is a big surprise. I thoroughly recommend this book, another thrilling read by KL Slater whose books I devour as soon as they are released.

I have read a few slater books, was really looking forward to this one. Once again it didn't disappoint. Had me hooked, what a page tuner!!!

I've read a few K.L Slater books in the past which I have enjoyed and this one did not disappoint.

Josie lost her 8 year old brother Jimmy back in 1993. Her neighbour was sentenced to 30 years in prision for his murder. He's now out 5 years early on parole.

Now Josie's 8 year old daughter has gone missing and Josie's positive she knows who to blame.

There are a number of twists and turns thrown into this one and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It kept my interest the whole way through and didn't see the shock revelation at the end coming.

I rate this eBook 4 stars and would recommend to those who enjoy their psychological thrillers.

For sure, there's no shortage of twists and turns in this one. On the other hand, the only reason most of them happen is that at least one major character can't get her head on straight and ignores even the most conventional wisdom - which I must say didn't exactly endear her to me. Overall, though, it's a nonstop adventure that makes for a perfect read on a sandy beach or next to a roaring fireplace.

A little over a quarter of a century ago, Josie Bennett's little brother Jimmy was murdered - locked in an empty airtight freezer until he suffocated. A 19-year-old neighbor boy who had a history of hurting people, Samuel Barlow, was convicted for the murder - thanks in part to testimony by his mother Maggie. Now, he's unexpectedly getting out of prison a little early.

That news puts Josie on red alert; after all, her daughter with ex-husband Terry is Jimmy's age when he died and Samuel once had a "thing" for Josie. If that weren't enough, his mother Maggie seems to be stalking her. But balancing her need to be extra-watchful of Ivy and keep an eagle eye on her fledgling business, Delicious Desserts, proves almost impossible, even with friend Fiona there to be Ivy's caregiver when needed - which these days, is a good bit of the time. By the time the inevitable happens - Ivy does indeed go missing - just about every character is a suspect. Josie, though, has no doubt whatsoever: the culprit is the same man who murdered her little brother.

When the police aren't much help - they've got all those procedures and rules that must be followed, don't you know - so of course Josie basically sets out to prove she's right about Samuel. His mother, who Josie detests, tries to convince Josie that she can help - but only if Josie doesn't tell anybody else including the cops. So when Josie agreed, while I of course hoped Ivy would be found safe and sound, from that point on I really didn't care what happened to Josie.

Also of course, I won't reveal any of the details (and certainly not the twists). Chapters flip back in time to detail earlier happenings that provide insights - not a technique of which I'm fond, but the author does an exemplary job of keeping things straight so it's all very easy to follow. Now that I've finished and know the whole story, I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for providing me with a pre-release copy to read and review.

Well, it was long. Where do I start with? This was a long but interesting psychological thriller in which history is repeating itself. Can a mother save her child from danger?
Josie Bennett's brother, Jimmy was found dead twenty six years ago and her nineteen years old neighbour, Samuel Barlow is convicted of killing her.
Now time has passed and she's living a happy life with her eight years old daughter, Ivy and she's a wonderful business of bakery but one day her daughter is gone missing and Samuel is out of the prison.
Everything was not that simple in this story. I'd to read it carefully to work all the twists out.
Overall the experience of reading it was awesome.
