This was a good thriller but it was quite predictable. I felt like the plot was quite disappointing and it never really got going. It is quite an average book

I love the cloud of sadness that costs each of his books. I liked the mystery and it was paced well. The characters were likeable. I did think the ending seemed a little unfinished, but that might be the point. I do like how there is no happy bow ending.

The novel follows Jodie as she uncovers long-buried secrets surrounding her boyfriend Ben's disappearance. As she delves deeper into the mystery, she discovers shocking revelations about her family and her own past.

I found it difficult to connect with any of the characters on a deeper level, which made it challenging to fully invest in their journeys. While Jodie's quest for the truth is intriguing, her emotional depth felt lacking, and I didn't feel a strong connection to her or the other characters.

Despite this, the novel's strength lies in its plot twists. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the story took unexpected turns that kept me engaged and eager to uncover the next revelation. The author's ability to keep the suspense high and deliver surprising twists is commendable and kept me turning the pages.

In conclusion, "The Boyfriend" is a decent thriller with a compelling plot and plenty of twists to keep readers entertained. However, if you're looking for deep character development and emotional resonance, you may find this book lacking in that aspect. If you're a fan of plot-driven thrillers with unpredictable twists, this book might be worth a read.

This is one that gave me Freida McFadden vibes. An easy read that you can devour in one sitting and it feels almost like a guilty pleasure!
The main character, Jodie finds an old T-shirt in her family’s attic after her father’s funeral. She hasn’t seen it for twenty years. Her boyfriend had been wearing it the day he went missing. This makes Jodie question everything. Did the wrong man go to prison? What secret was her father hiding?

After her father's death Jodie has returned home to empty his house. Whilst going through his boxes in the loft she stumbles upon an old T'shirt that her boyfriend Ben was wearing twenty years ago, on the day he went missing. Why is it in her father's loft?

Her father was a respected man but Jodie now starts to doubt his innocence and starts to dig for answers and how her dad fits into all of this.

This was a great read, I thought I had it all worked out and I'm pleased to say I was totally wrong.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

A good read and enjoyed the plot and characters. The short chapters keep the pace up and move you along at a nice pace. I read it in one evening and can't wait to read more from the author.

This was a good standalone psychological thriller. It kept me engaged and interested while reading. I wouldn't say it's top notch, but definitely worth a read.

I'd recommend not using Jodie's name quite so often...

Another thriller that I am still thinking about. I did not think I would like this one because so much of it was set around teenagers, but it surprised me.

Old secrets never stay buried!

Following her father’s funeral it’s up to Jodie to sort through all his belongings. One thing she never expected to find stashed in a box in the attic…an old tee shirt belonging to her first boyfriend Ben.

Odd for several reasons. One, Ben has been missing and presumed dead for years. And two, why would her father have his old tee shirt hidden away. That’s exactly what Jodie is taxed to discover. What makes it so difficult is the fact that her father was the kindest man, adored by everyone. Is it really worth opening up this can of worms with the possibility of tarnishing his reputation beyond repair? But with the evidence in hand, how can she keep quiet.

This was a good solid thriller, and though it did keep me engaged throughout I did find it rather predictable. But I’ve really enjoyed his past books and will definitely be picking up more of his books in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

After her dad’s funeral, all Jodie wants is to clear out her childhood home as quickly as possible and get back to life with her son. But a terrifying discovery changes everything she knew about her kind, loving father.

Her boyfriend Ben went missing when they were just teenagers. His parents still stare out the window desperately waiting for him to come home. So how did the T-shirt he was wearing when Jodie saw him walk away from their last date end up in her father’s attic?

The search for answers leads Jodie to an old family friend who knows all her father’s secrets. She can’t shake his questions about her older brother, and the real reason their dad left everything to Jodie, not him. But when a stranger begins to follow her around their little town, and a deadly fire breaks out in her home, it’s clear someone will do anything to stop Jodie finding the truth about Ben's disappearance. Has Jodie unknowingly put her own son in terrible danger?

This book was a slow burner, but well worth the wait. I was fully emmersed in this book. It was very gripping and enthralling. Highly recommend

I must admit that I really struggled to get fully immersed into this book, but around a third of the way into the story the plot 'took off' and caught my interest more. There were plenty of twists and turns to the story, but the ending was not as expected, and I don't feel that nearly enough weight was given to the magnitude of the extra event with Jodie's son at at the end of the book. Hence, maybe that was just one too many twists and turns, as the story then felt somewhat unresolved to me.

Love reading Kerry Wilkinsons books and this one was no exception. This was a very suspenseful read full of twists and turns.

Hands down, this was easily one of my top reads of 2022! This was the first book I had read by this author, inwas initially drawn in by the cover but Oh My God.... WHAT A BOOK!

I read this in 3 hours solid on holiday and the minute I had finished I went straight online and downloaded 8 more which then turned into 12 before coming home. Kerry Wilkinson has this insane knack of drawing you in and coiling the narrative around you so you have no doubts about turning page after page.

After the death of her father, a well respected man and Mayor of the town, Josie has the task of going through his things. Whilst taking on this tasks she comes across a tshirt.. not just any tshirt but one that is all too familiar. It belonged to her teen boyfriend from 16 years ago Ben... a boyfriend that went missing wearing that exact tshirt!

Why is this tshirt among her fathers belongings? Did he have something to do with his disappearance? Was the wrong man convicted?

On top of this revelation, Jodie is shocked to discover that her father left the house solely to her which leaves her brothers wife furious and Jodie wondering why it was all left to her.

This was a story that twisted, turned and curve balled at every turn. A full blow whodunnit that even had me turning amateur detective along the way!

A brilliantly paced storyline filled with deceit, family drama and lies. UNPUTDOWNABLE!

Huge thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

2.5 stars

Really interesting plot, but for a short book, this was really drawn out. 40% in, you still know nothing more than what the blurb tells us. I guessed the plot twist within 3 chapters, very rare for me...I figured this can't be it, but indeed it was. No tension, no thrill.....but thankfully a quick read. Very average book that had a lot of potential with the interesting storyline.

Kerry Wilkinson does it again, another great book that I just couldn’t put down. The plot is full of twists and turns meaning there was no way of guessing the ending, adding to the suspense. Wilkinson sets the scene quickly, drawing the reader in from the first page. I would highly recommend this book.

Ugh. Please give me the whole day I spent slouching and trying to get through this book. Sorry but I did not like this one bit! And the main character? So annoying!

Thanks to Netgalley! Hoping for a better read next time!

This one wasn't a win for me. Typically this author is right at the top of my list and I auto purchase anything they write, but not this one. I genuinely didn't care about any of the characters, and have recently realized this is important for me to enjoy the book.

Jodie, who could forget her name, was a shit mom who acted like she was the mother of a wine bottle rather than her teenage son. She didn't go through the whole attic the first time? That alone was stupid and I couldn't cheeri for someone who is stupid.

Will read the next one, but this one wasn't for me.
