Don't know what to think of it. This book was definitely not for me. Couldn't read past chapter 2.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.

This is the 9th book of the series but the first one that I've read. This is where the problems start - there's too much assumed knowledge and the mass of characters (with their special powers) are introduced very quickly with not enough time to get to know them before the next set are introduced.

In addition, there's a lot of speech but far less by way of descriptive scene setting so the reader doesn't get a sense of place either. This means that although the characters move around a lot, there's no sense of the different locations.

I only managed to read about 30% of the book before I stopped as it wasn't getting any easier to understand. I've not read any of the earlier books in the series but I assume that book 1 would make a far better starting point with fewer characters and more explanation of this fantasy world.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I started this book but just couldn’t understand the background and the characters without the previous stories. It just didn’t pull me in.
