A brutal murder sends Helen and her team on the trail of a murderer. When there is another murder, they must catch the murderer before anyone else loses their life. At the same time Helen is on high alert for her life following the threats from Alex Blythe on her life.
The investigation takes them to a cargo shop and Helen has to risk her life once again to apprehend a suspect for the murders.. As the investigation progresses, Helen's superior decides he wants her head on a plate and when an opportunity arises he grabs it with both hands.
I could not put this down and was a bit miffed when I had to go to work! An excellent read.

Thank you to Netgalley for my ARC.

I have wanted to read a book from this author since I learned that the books are set in Southampton, Hampshire. It just adds a little bit more fun to the story when the murders are happening down the road!

This is a detective that has been in a number of books and I’m sure that there are extra threads that I missed, having not read the others. However, this does not detract from the storyline.

There are a series of murders happening around the city and it’s up to our detective team to solve the clues and stop the person.

Our detective likes to break the rules but she’s also excellent. But there’s a new guy in charge and he wants her gone. How will she solve the problem if he keeps stopping her?

I enjoyed the depth of the characters, you learn a lot more about their home lives than other books I’ve read. It’s a fast paced, excellent story.

Read it all it one go! It captivated me from the first page. It was a lovely opening that set the rest of the book up very well.

Oh wow! M.J Aldrige does it again. Another Helen Grace novel (my favourite) and it's amazing. And terrifying,. A brilliant and unputdownable book. Loved it.

Wow! Yet another five star read with Helen Grace. The twists and turns are amazing and just when you think you know what’s happening bang, you’re off somewhere else! How much more can. Helen’s body take? I don’t know how Mr Arlidge keeps on thinking up these scenarios but I’m glad he does. Although I did get a sense of this may be being the last one? I hope not

When a woman is found dead in her own bed by her husband, brutally butchered, DI Helen Grace heads the team tasked with finding the killer. With little forensic evidence and no sightings, they are facing an uphill struggle. When a young man is found killed in the same way Helen must find out what links the victims before anyone else dies. The killer isn't Helen's only problem, stalked by an unknown assassin danger could be round any corner. Her boss is desperate to get rid of her and is making no secret of it. Helen has to try and stay focussed on the case but with her paranoia building could this case be the end of her.
These books never disappoint, I have been a massive fan ever since the first one. They make you feel like you are riding pillion with Helen Grace on her motorbike. Fast, scary, unpredictable, hoping that you both make it to the end unscathed. 5 stars isn't enough

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 (just) stars.

One of my least favourite books by the author. The book started really well, suspenseful as we uncover the seemingly senseless murders.

But the plot got muddied with the storyline about the perpetrator from the last book, the policeman from the other book (she really did that to him?!), Helen seems even more unlikeable than ever, and then there’s the plot about Charlie’s marriage which really added nothing to the story.

Once I know who the murderer was it lost some of its edge for me - maybe we found out too soon, maybe it was because his motive was a bit weak.

If you read this as your first book by the author then I’d recommend reading the earlier books.

Oh and lastly (I say this in every review of the author’s books) - please write out Garanita - she adds nothing to these books except annoyance!

Another fantastic thriller in the DI Helen Grace series.

I really enjoy this crime detective series and this one was no different.

This book is full of action and twists and turns which will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

The writing style is super easy to read and very engaging.

The plot was very interesting, although not super unique was very enjoyable nonetheless.

As always, I love the characters in this book especially Helen Grace.

If you love crime thrillers or are looking to get into the genre I can't recommend this book and the series enough.

Overall, another fantastic book quite wait for the next one.

Another great addition to the DI Grace series. It follows on seamlessly from the last book, Helen is under threat from a psychopath who evaded capture, knowing her life is in danger she becomes more and more paranoid. Grace and her team still manage to investigate a series of brutal murders, but at what cost to the seemingly indestructible Detective Inspector? Has her time finally come.

Unfortunately not my favourite of the series so far. The plot was confusing at times and disjointed which made me lose what was going on. Despite this, it wouldn't put my off reading the next in the series as I've so far loved M.J's offerings.

I’m certainly in the minority with this one, in fact I’m wondering if I read a different book to other reviewers. There are so many things about this book that I didn’t like. The first is that it was almost impossible to follow because it is so disjointed. In one sentence we’re reading about a woman in bed and a hand being clamped down over her lips, and in the next sentence ‘a piercing shriek rent the air, then rubber bit tarmac and the bike sprang forwards …’. What? It is like that all the way through and makes it very difficult to follow. Another thing that drove me mad was the number of times ‘Helen’ appeared when it could (should) have been replaced with ‘she’. I thought the writing felt very amateurish throughout, and some of it was ridiculous. For example, DI Helen Grace and DS Charlie Brooks (best friends) were at the scene of a crime discussing a murder that had occurred – “There was a brief, contemplative silence, before Charlie asked the most pressing, most difficult question. ‘What do you think this is all about? Do you think it is aggravated burglary?’” Excuse me, what’s difficult and pressing about that question? I could go on and on about the silly language (Once more, however, fate was against her, the man’s broken body hideous to behold …), the ridiculous plot … and don’t even get me going about the fight on top of the cargo vessel and the resulting near drowning!!!! I think I’ve said enough, except I won’t be looking for the next in this series. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers and sorry I have nothing good to say about this book.

I adore MJ Arlidge and have read everything he has released up to this point. He never disappoints - and this book is another corker!

I have to admit, this book was somewhat of a slow burner, but once it got going I was hooked.
It's not been my favourite Helen Grace book in the series, but it won't stop me reading what more is in store for Helen Grace.

Wow, Detective Inspector Helen Grace never gives up! She is an unbelievably strong, determined character but in this book 11 she is also the hunted. That doesn’t stop Helen in leading an investigation into a killer stalking the city.
Cat and Mouse is non stop and very hard to put down!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

A fast moving Helen Grace crime novel that has her watching her own back for a killer stalker and also endeavouring to catch a most sadistic killer that is butchering inhabitants of the locality .A book that is difficult to point down
Highly recommended

Thanks to Orion and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
I love DI Helen Grace but found this book a little hard to read. The main storyline was good but the mixing with the previous book really spoilt it for me. Helen appears to be struggling to find herself and without the friendship and help of Charlie she is not getting very far at all.
I am sure that the next book will see Helen a little more upbeat and look forward to reading it soon.

Don’t know if it was this copy, or the final version is just like it, but I had great difficulty in reading it. The storyline jumped around, sometimes in the same paragraph so it was at times really confusing.
The storyline was good but not his best. I have read all the previous books which I have enjoyed. I found there were too many storylines going on, some seemed to be padding and did not really go anywhere - overkill on the ‘red herrings’. I also found for the first time with this author that some events were far fetched, there are only so many beatings, falls etc that one person can take and yet Grace took them all and still lived to fight another day.

D.I. Helen Grace and her MIT team in Southampton are plunged into a serial killers spree. A baffling case which has the team racing against time to catch the perpetrator before they kill again. With very few clues, the case gets more and more convoluted, with the team working around the clock ,and the Southampton public wanted this depraved madman caught as fear strikes the heart of the city.

All the old team are together working to solve this case that we have featured with D.I. Helen Grace's previous cases. Helen roaring around on her powerful bike trying to get ahead of the killer with seemingly everyone getting to confuse the problem . Least of all is Helen Grace's nemesis , Dr Alex Blythe who escaped who swore vengeance by getting D.I. Helen Grace. Danger stalked her which threatened to railroad her enquiry.

This the usual exiting fare from M.J. Arlidge a real page turner with the breath-taking climax which places Helen's very life at risk.

Whilst I enjoyed the story line, I found the book very disjointed at times. I am not sure if this was a formatting error, or how the book is. Also, as this is the the first book by the author I had read, I definitely felt i was missing some information or background on the characters.

I have to be entirely honest and say I wasn’t too keen on this, I was so looking forward to it. Helen Grace .. for once it would have been great for her to have a bit of good luck, she’s the worlds unluckiest detective and so much drama, let someone else have a bit. A tad predictable with a slightly unbelievable ending, just a bit samey for me I’m afraid
