I'm still a bit undecided on how I feel about this one. There were parts I loved, but I did have a few reservations. I thought it sounded like a premise that I'd love but for some reason I did struggle to get into it properly. It might just have been me lol. O found it really well written and liked the characters. There was definitely that eerie, creepy undertone throughout and I liked that the narrative was split over different time lines. I found the characters realistic and not just written like idiots which is always a nice change however...... it just all kind of went a bit bleugh. I just felt that towards the end, the book all just feel a bit flat and the high standard that wad set in the begning is just totally left to go to...... rubbish really. So yeah, torn...... really good but then pretty underwhelming n dull

This book started off well but then became quite unrealistic. I struggled to engage with it during the last third. The characters were well designed and the plot was interesting overall.

I really liked this book. Was very mysterious and kept me thinking until the very end . It’s not the best book I have ever read I just say but I did enjoy it . Thank you Netgalley and the publisher!

I absolutely loved the first 75% of this book, it had me so completely hooked. I loved the backstory, the alternating timelines — however it definitely fell abit flat for me when they eventually merged together. I feel like the story could’ve gone to a much more believable place and I was left feeling so underwhelmed!!!!!! The ending was just “okay” whereas the rest of the book was phenomenal. Definitely saw some similarities to the Manson family case. I read Helter Skelter a couple of years back and the past timeline really reminded me so much of that!

Fast paced, suspenseful and full of mystery, this was a twisty, unpredictable and compelling read. I was gripped right from the first page. A great read.

Dark, Sinister Turn…
A girls weekend in Vegas is about to take a dark and sinister turn in this slow burn suspense with twists aplenty and a menacing undercurrent from the off. Flipping between past and present effectively giving the reader a disturbing backstory and a link to the events that unfold. Characters are well drawn, mostly unlikeable and keenly observed and the storyline both claustrophobic and intriguing.

So I love Tarryn Fisher and was so excited to receive an arc for her new novel, I dived in without reading the blurb. An Honest Lie, is one of the best psychological thrillers I have read. Set in a beautiful mountain town in Washington, a setting which can also be as dark and deranged as the story. Absolutely full of twists, shocks and amazing stories, both past and present. Highly recommended. Five 🌟 xx

Rainy lives at the top of Tiger Mountain. It's a sanctuary - a new life where she can hide from her disturbing past.

When she reluctantly agrees to a girls' weekend in Vegas, she's prepared for an exhausting parade of shots and slot machines. But on their first night, one of the women doesn't come back to the hotel room.

Then Rainy gets a message. Someone has her friend but Rainy is who they really want, and she knows why. Now, the only way to save her friend is to step back into the past.

Rainy is a unique and unsociable at times artist. She’s trying to fit in with her boyfriends group of friends but she’s hating every minute of it. These ladies seem to be like mean girls from high school and I wasn’t sure if any of them were even being truthfully nice or just backstabbing and conniving. I absolutely love books that have toxic friendships which leave the reader never quite knowing who’s genuine and who isn’t.

The book flips from Rainy’s past to her present and we slowly find out what happened in her past to shape the way she is today and it’s intriguing as her history developed and we learn about the things that made her ‘Rainy’. Which is a name I love.

Tarryn Fisher has done an outstanding job with this book. I had no idea what was coming next and I loved very minute of it. I do enjoy Tarryn Fisher’s work - they usually quite raw and excellent as an immersive palette cleanser.

My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an arc in exchange for an unbiased review.

Tarryn Fisher getting better and better. Loved The Wives and now this, first i thought it was a simple psychological thriller but then it turned darker. Wow.
Thanks to NetGalley and Headline for giving me an advance copy.
