I tried this book and started it over several times but it was not for me. I lost interest quickly and could not get into the characters or the story.

When I was sent this by Netgalley I hadn't heard of Grant Ginder before, and I put off reading the book for a while as I saw a few negative reviews and this was a mistake as opinion is subjective.

I think while the narrative is at times a little slow, if you persevere it will make sense. The storyline is at times complicated but what family isn't, we are all dysfunctional in some way right? Also, weddings while they are a celebration can bring up multiple emotions. I won't say too much about this book because I think it is a book you have to form your own opinion on. But don't make mistake and avoid reading it on the basis of negative reviews.

I really wanted to like this audiobook, but I couldn’t connect with the characters or writing style. That doesn’t mean it’s not a good book, of course—everyone has different tastes so if the description appeals to you, give it a go.

This is a audiobook review.
I found there were way too many characters; Main characters, side characters, characters in the background, characters from the past...just way too many that I lost track of who was who, who was related to who and who was actually relevant to the main plot.

I thought that the people reading the book sounded bored and didn't give the characters life or feel so they all ended up sounding the same.

I did end up DNF this book, as i just lost interest, I wasn't grabbed by any of the characters and it just felt like a hard story to follow. I felt like this could have been a really good comedic book with a side of serious but it wasn't.
Also I have to point out the treatment for one of the women's OCD and germs made me feel really sick, like would they actually be allowed to force a patient in a bin barefoot in order for her to get over her fear of germs??

The narrators sounded bored to be there so what hope did this book have. I have an extreme aversion to DNF'-ing books because I like to give them all a chance but this one really pushed it. Can I tell you what happened, no because my mind kept wondering away. Were the bits I remember entertaining? Sometimes.

I really hope that this book reads better and has just fallen victim to a bad narration.

A blended family grown up with issues and one of them is getting married, this gives the excuse for all of the other siblings to ridicule, cosy up, criticise, join in, stay away, feel anxious, ignore the event and every feeling in between. Wow a lot going on but isn't that how some complex relationships survive and develop to different levels.I so wanted them to all get along but they really were dysfunctional. The writing was very good and described feelings and scenarios extremely well, maybe the author has a dysfunctional family? Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.

This is a review of the audiobook version of this book.

I’m afraid I could not get into this audiobook, I found the narrators quite annoying to listen to, but the story didn’t really grab me from the beginning and I couldn’t continue to listen.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me review this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I DNF this at 25%. I just found the characters really unlikeable and the drama was all a bit storm in a tea cup. I was also irritated by the male narrator’s attempts at a woman’s voice.

Thank you for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the audiobook. I am sorry I can’t recommend it.

Initially I found this aufiobook loud and jarring. Mostly unlikeable characters, but Donna the mother at least had reasons for being awful.
When it degenerated into sweaty, drug abusing port I gave up.
With both a male and female narrator stumbling into Dick Van Dyke awful English accents not improving thi ga

To be honest it was a big to-do about nothing really. You’re expecting something exciting or big to happen and it doesn’t come. It was long and hard to listen to at times. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best either. So I’m a no on this one for a recommendation sorry.

Salty and Bittersweet

🧡 First off, let me say, I LOVE irredeemable characters. The viler the better. Hating an awful fictional person is the ultimate in consequence-free judginess. There is definitely some of that here, but then it goes deeper. It looks at how things like trauma, loneliness and low self-esteem can warp people’s personalities. It becomes an insightful tug of war between nature and, if not nurture, then experience.

💚 Listen to this for the layered characters and dysfunctional family dynamics. Listen to this to explore the depths of human bitterness and desperation with a supson of dry humour. Definitely listen to this for the dissection of a relationship by way of a sex scene. Not my usual thing, but cleverly done.

💜 PS. Feel like the title could do with a nudge. Not quite enough “wedding” for it to have top billing.

SOUNDBITE

🎧 Dan Bittner and Khristine Hvam bring plenty of snark to the party and make this a fun listen. Bittner’s British accent gets questionable at times, but I loved his Paul and Hvam’s Alice.

Big thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for providing me with an ALC in return for an honest review.

I've had to DNF this book at 10%. I was really struggling to connect with the story and the characters. I wasn't a fan of the narrators which made it difficult to follow.

Eliose is getting married in London. Half siblings Paul and Alice are both not thrilled to attend this "IT" wedding. With most families, this one has its own set of drama's, love, secrets and backstabbing.

This book brings a good steady pace and easy to listen to. I expected a bit more of a WOW factor at the end but is all worked out well. Loads of different characters and each with their own sets of drama and storylines. Both narrators were brilliants.

This gave me serious "A wedding and a funeral" vides. We received good explanations and insights in each characters lives. Loads of drama, as weddings usually are. It was missing a big twist factor. Overall an enjoyable book!
