Dan Walker knocks it out the park again. I was so thrilled that there was a sequel, and boy did he deliver! I'm excited to see what he does next!

After the events of book 1, Lux discovered something strange and seemingly very wrong about his powers. Now he is terrified to use Light even for healing his team-mates as he is so worried about hurting rather than saving them. So he is warily hopeful when he hears of a retired Light Hunter who thinks he's found a way to stop the monster attacks forever.
I love the friendship and trust between the team-mates in squad Juno, they go through so much together but in the end always believe in each other. It is wonderful to see how Lux overcomes his fears and terror of hurting others.

Another fantastic adventure for the squad! The stakes are high and the action riveting but of course there's plenty of fun along the way. What I loved in particular about this one was seeing the characters develop from the The Light Hunters, as well as the emotion packed into the story!

The follow up to The Light Hunters does not disappoint. Walker manages to fix the pacing issues from the first book which led me to fly through this book. I loved the emphasis on teamwork and needing others, on how it’s okay to make mistakes and that sometimes we fail. I find this is somewhat rare in middle grade books - our heroes will have some hardships and slips but rarely will they make as much of a mistake or fail as big as our heroes do here. Fear of making mistakes, friendship, teamwork and acknowledgment of new ideas are all big parts of this sequel and I think they are all incorporated well in a non preachy way. They even helped this 30 year old rethink some of their thought processes when it comes to trying something new or retrying something they have failed at before.

A solid addition to any school library or child’s bedroom.

This was such a fun exciting book. Enjoyed equally by both the boys and girls in our little group. The interaction between the squad members is especially good.

Fortunately I didn’t have to wait long to find out what happened after reading The Light Hunters. This time, Squad Juno have to battle terrible evil and danger to save the whole world in another brilliant fantasy adventure. Thank goodness for the friendship and humour to relieve some of the tension. You definitely need to read both books in the series!

I read this one immediately after reading the first as I couldn't wait to find out what was happening to Lux, and I wasn't disappointed! This one is just as fast-paced, full of adventures with twists and turns along the way.

One element that I really liked was the emphasis on friendship, teamwork and trust that comes from the central character being part of 'Squad Juno' and the new characters support these central themes too. I felt like Lux really goes on a journey in this book, more than the first, as he battles his new 'twilight' power - will he learn to control it?!

I thoroughly enjoyed returning to the world of 'Light' and think that this makes a great addition to middle-grade reading!

**Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read an advanced e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own **

Lux Dowd is a healer in his squad of monster killing Light Hunters, but since a previous encounter with a dark force known as Shade, when he was unable to save his grandfather, he has been unable to control his powers and has accidentally injured his friends and fellow members of Squad Juno. When his unit is sent on a special mission to meet a former light hunter, it quickly becomes evident that the man responsible for his grandfather's death is still a threat.
This novel essentially works as a school story in a more adventurous setting - Squad Juno are still in training, share a dorm, and each has their own reason for monster hunting, as well as the their gift for using Light. This would be a good addition to our school library which should entertain the confident readers in the middle of Key Stage 2, rather than aiming firmly at the top. There is tension, danger, dilemmas to be faced and humour in the banter between the characters. Our readers are likely to enjoy this and find it more accessible than a lot of current middle grade fiction.

It was great to catch up again with Lux and the squad! This is a great follow up book, and I do think you need to read the first before picking up this one otherwise you will lose a lot of context.

As I say, this book builds on the first, and the relationships develop in the squad, and we also meet quite a few new characters as well. It’s a great book, really exciting, loveable characters, and a satisfying conclusion. I would like to see more…

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review

A wonderful children's and teenager adventure fantasy. I would recommend reading the first in the duology to help this story along. It's well paced, engaging storyline and plot and with development of prior world building in the first book. Definitely recommend.

I loved the first book in this series - The Light Hunters and gave it a 5 star. I would give this even more than 5 stars if I could - I loved the plot twist. I won't say any more about the plot twist so I don't spoil it for anyone else. The important thing to know is that this book follows straight on from The Light Hunters. That is also a brilliant book and I'd recommend that that book is read first so it's clear who everyone in this book is. In this book Lux has developed a new power - but will it be used for good or evil? This is what we found out in the book. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an opportunity to review this book - I think, like the first in the series it is a fantastic book for tweens who are into magical fantasy and books like Frostheart, Nevermoor, Keeper of the Lost Cities, Malamander (The Legends of Eerie-on-Sea)

This is the second book in the series, and I would definitely recommend reading “Light Hunters” first. I loved the first one when I originally read it a few years ago, and I also loved diving into this world again. Lux has become scared of his light-hunter powers and doesn’t want to use them in case he accidentally hurts someone again with his strange purple light. But, when Squad Juno are sent out to gather information from a former light-hunter who is now a professor, the whole team are drawn into a new and dangerous adventure and the fate of the world lies in their hands.
If you liked the first book, you will love this one also.
