I was sucked in from the first page. Iris hooked me and had me wondering what was going on with her. Not to mention when she met Lydia, bringing her & Seth into the mix. What a whirlwind of a ride this one is!

Thank you, Ellery Kane, bookouture & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.

This story is told over dual timelines. There are many twists in this book. It was cleverly written and intriguing. The pacing was spot on and flowed well.

Wow! What a page turner! It was so fast paced and kept my interest the entire story from the very beginning until the last page. For sure one of my favorite thrillers of 2022 and a repeat read in 2023.

"You're just the girl I've been looking for"

Iris a wealthy seventy year old widow is struggling to deal with the upkeep of her home and garden after going through a terrifying home burglary.

One day Iris meets Lydia at a cafe and when Lydia is fired from her job she offers her and Seb jobs as caretakers for her home. Lydia will help Iris out while Seb takes care of the gardens.

One night there is a 911 call after a gunshot. When the police arrive Iris is missing. Something bad has happened here ... but what?

The drama is told before and after leaving the reader with a multitude of questions. Where is Iris? Is she dead? What is Seth and Lydia's story?

This is an engaging mystery that is intriguing and kept me interested until the end.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book took me a bit to get into but I’m glad I stuck with it.
What a twisted story of lies and deceit.
You can’t help but like or hate the characters. There’s really no in between.
A good page turner for sure. A must read.

When I read the synopsis I was hooked, however it didn’t massively live up to the hype for me. The ending was something I sort of guessed about half way through the book as well.

Now THIS is what you call a psychological thriller!

Admittedly it did take me a while to get into, it wasn't a book that grabbed me from the very first page BUT once it did grab hold it sure as hell didn't let go.

Told in dual timelines of before and after, it starts with a call to 911 from an elderly lady needing assistance as she thinks someone is in her home. Gunshots are heard and then all is silent...

Iris is 70 years old, an elderly widow who lives in a large home in a beautiful area. Iris is lonely and since her husbands passing hasnt managed to keep up with the upkeep of her home or gardens.

Iris then meets Lydia at a local diner. Lydia is down on her luck and seems to be getting a hard time from her boss. Feeling sorry for her, Iris offers her a live in job as a housekeeper, aswell as her husband Seth.

Soon after Iris goes missing, the scene left behind does not look good, with pools of blood and the phone line cut and no sign of Iris anywhere.... but is everything as it seems.

The story that unfolds is full of twists, turns and suspense and you will not be able to put it down.

Huge thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

The House Sitter by Ellery Kane Narrated by: Kristin James was an interesting audiobook, I didn't like it and I didn't love it! it was like Marmite!!! I found this psychological thriller a very slow burner and had me guessing right till the end. It's full of good twists and turns throughout and a few red herrings. The narrator Kristin James was excellent and and did a good job of bringing this book alive.

I would recommend this book so stick with it.

Big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my audiobook.

I was pretty exciting when I read the description of this one, but I have to say overall I’m disappointed after reading it. It wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t great or memorable even. I also thought it was extremely predictable. The big reveal at the end I had figured out pretty much from the beginning. The book opens pretty well with Iris, an elderly women calling 911 and saying there are burglars at her home. When police arrive there is no one there. As the police investigate all clues point to Seth and Lydia, who recently moved in to help Iris and take care of the home. It’s also a silly thing, but I think the title was misleading. It would have been more apt to call it the caretakers or something. Overall I gave this one 2.5 stars rounded down since none of the characters were particularly likable or memorable.

Unfortunately, I have been locked out of my netgalley account for a few months and was not able to see which books I had on my list, in order to properly read and review. I do apologize and am doing a 3 for neutral. Will update once I’m able to obtain a copy and read!

The House Sitter by Ellery Kane is a clever psych thriller that makes you think the story is going in one direction before completely pulling the rug out from underneath you…somewhere along the way.
I will say that it took a bit of time for me to get a feel for the characters and where the author was going. The first third felt a little bit slow.
However, it soon became apparent that it was all by design, and that the reader needs that time to get situated before things start really falling into place.
Think of it like that climb on a roller coaster where you have to get to the top before you start plunging down into the loops and swirls.
I don’t want to give anything away, and if I discuss the plot too much, I most definitely will. So, the characters it is.
Iris is a wily one. She seems like a feisty person, and probably will remind readers of women they know in their personal lives. I certainly thought of a few.
I think that is why her character trajectory was the most personal. I felt happy for her, then sorry, then sad.a roller coaster of emotions to go along with the psych thriller plot.
Seth and Lydia – hmmmm. I like how the author let their story come out little by little. It smartly made them enigmas, and it added to the tension. Do they each have an angle? Who is calling the shots? Are either of them sincere?
I really enjoyed Maureen’s character. I thought her backstory was interesting and just different enough to make her NOT a run-of-the-mill cop.
The only thing that I will say about the story itself is that just when you think the author has wrapped everything up and everyone has had their due there are still a few more twists thrown in.
The House Sitter is the very definition of a psych thriller, with a tense plot and interesting characters. I will eagerly look forward to the next Ellery Kane book.

Iris is seventy, and starting to have memory lapses, did she take her pills or didn't she? Living alone in her large Victorian Pacific Heights house, one she can no longer care for by herself, she meets Lydia, a hapless waitress, and her boyfriend Seth, a short tempered loser with a gambling addiction, these are the people that Iris takes pity on, and moves them in to her home to take care of her? I had trouble with this decision from the beginning, could she have chosen any two people more unsuited! Then within two weeks Iris is missing after a chilling call to 911! There are places where the story drags, then it begins again with twists and turns that you see coming, but don't see how it can end well for Iris. I gave it 3 1/2 stars. It is worth the read and I think it would make good TV viewing!
