Thanks to @netgalley for read number 59 of 2022. I’ve never read any of Sue Watson’s books, but I will be reading more now. This was a binge-worthy read with lots of different twists along the way. I had an inkling about one part of the conclusion, but not the rest. I enjoy a good twist. Prepare for some tears with this book too. This was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 read in my books. #avivaandfriendsrecos #bookstagram

I enjoyed the book but it got very confusing. Too many characters to keep track of that were a big part of the story. It was hard to keep up with everyone’s lives. Not a bad book but when you cannot keep track of who is who etc it gets a bit aggravating.

This is a gripping and tension filled book. I loved the tropical island setting. It is full of tension and unease. There were lots of untrusting characters. I couldn’t guess the ending at all

So, you've got this dream vacation planned with your spouse, a secluded island resort promising relaxation and reconnection. But suddenly, a phone call shatters the idyllic setting. A waitress from the night before is found dead, and the police want to question your partner. What follows is a rollercoaster of suspicion and deception that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Sue Watson has crafted a gripping tale that keeps you guessing until the very end. The dynamics between the couples are portrayed with depth, making you feel the vulnerability and insecurity of the female characters. The men, though, are a different story—full of pretense and manipulation. You can practically feel the tension crackling between them, and just like the women, your suspicions will be all over the place.

What really sets this book apart is its unreliable narrators. You're constantly questioning everyone's motives and trying to piece together the truth. The growing bond between the women feels genuine, adding a layer of authenticity to the story.

The tropical island setting adds to the atmosphere, creating a sense of unease that perfectly complements the suspenseful plot. You'll be turning pages at breakneck speed, trying to uncover the secrets hidden within the resort's walls.

This was a book full of twists and turns which kept the secrets hidden until the end. Was a great way to keep me engaged and keep me trying to guess while reading.
I liked the characters, the females were strong and independent and I liked their bond that they formed.

This was a great easy to read thriller. Lots of interesting characters that I couldn't work out whether to like or hate. Told from the ladies points of view to give the reader full perspective of the whole storyline the short chapters made this a really quick read.
Lots of twists right until the end, didn't see them coming at all!

When a dream trip becomes your worst nightmare.

Three couples..

Sam and David are on their honeymoon after a whirlwind romance.

Daisy and Tom need a break after going through IVF three times and losing a baby.

Becky and Josh have left their two teenage children behind to spend some quality time together.

What could go wrong in paradise?

The body of a beautiful young waitress has been found, the police have been called and everyone is a suspect.

Can anyone be trusted!!!

This is a great whodunnit that had me puzzled trying to solve this case. But there were too many suspects and red herrings that kept tripping me up on the way. And the ending was a surprise that I did not see coming!!

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

I just couldn't get into this one (DNF @ 34%). The women were all weak and shiny and a bit submissive to their husbands/boyfriends which never sits right with me.

At 1/3 into the book, one thing happened and the rest of them time it's the characters talking circles around the event. Plus I kept forgetting who was married to who.

Finally you get to go away. Finally some alone time with hubby, relaxation and peace. Until a waitress dies, and your husband becomes a suspect... makes for a thrilling read, and recommended for anyone who loves a great solid read!

Having read the book I was then happy to receive a copy of the audiobook too, it’s a rare bloke where I enjoy both equally.

The plot was really good and well thought out, I just did not enjoy this as much as I thought I was going to. Readers who enjoy thrillersmwill like this but I think it was the characters that weren't my favorite. Definitely give this a read though

What a ride! What begins as a once in a lifetime excursion, turns into a nightmare of graphic proportions. A murder at a renowned resort puts lives on hold . While the investigation continues each suspect must come to grips with the reasons they are here. Each has their own reason for wanting a quick resolution. Each has a reason to want the death to be an accident. Only one knows that this is the end of the road.

The story unfolds through three characters perspectives. The beginning is in the present and the rest of the book unravels through chapters describing how events unfolded. The characters are not very pleasant and therefore, most were prime suspects in my eyes throughout the book!

Sue Watson is the Queen of atmospheric reads. I’ve said it before and firmly stand by it again. This book was compelling, not least because of the irritating characters (characters you love to hate really make a book!), but also because of the setting. Sue always carefully researches her settings and you just know that the feelings she writes into the pages of her books are ones that she herself has pictured or felt whilst stood in similar places that have inspired her. This always adds another level of attention to detail and creates a really immersive experience.

The glamour of Fitzgeralds, the heat of an extremely hot Summer, the isolation of the Island… everything comes together to make this the perfect read, whatever the season.

What a cracker of a mystery thriller! The Resort grabs your attention from the first page. It draws you in, keeps you alert and will make you doubt yourself over whodunnit countless times!

The setting is a small island off the Devon coast. It’s hot, stuffy and claustrophobic. All the characters are stuck here after a body was found on the beach at the bottom of the cliff. The police are watching and interviewing everyone. There are 6 main couples who are in the spotlight. Sam and David, are newlyweds on their honeymoon and have only known each other a few months, Tom and Daisy are trying to make their marriage work after the loss of their son and Becky and Josh. They are a couple with teenage kids, hiding a secret and trying to face reality.

The Resort is a clever book, just as you think you know who is the suspect, it’s whipped away from you and you have to start over!

Highly recommended 5/5 star read!

A very quick interesting read. You're Agatha Christie, trying to figure out this Who Dunnit! Good unique storyline. Some weird character personality portrayals but overall the story developed well and made it hard to put it down until you knew what happened. Will read this author again
