A very quick interesting read. You're Agatha Christie, trying to figure out this Who Dunnit! Good unique storyline. Some weird character personality portrayals but overall the story developed well and made it hard to put it down until you knew what happened. Will read this author again

Hmm. That was interesting. A rather complicated plot that weirdly spoke to me in such a way that I had never anticipated. I though it would be boring but I was proven wrong by the awesome writing and pacing. Good job!

Cheers to Netgalley for the copy!

I felt the characters were well written in this book. I felt the tension between them all. I did find it to be a bit repetitive at times. I really enjoyed the ending and thats why I gave it 4 stars.

The Resort by Sue Watson is a psych thriller that has some Agatha Christie elements and is mostly a good read. I liked the setup of a luxury hotel on an island. Not being familiar with the area, however, I wasn’t sure if I believed how “tropical” it could be. It sometimes felt like the descriptions were confused between “old school glamour” and tropical. There are three couples that are the main focus, and there are a lot of inner monologues. It would have been nice to have more action instead of being told what happened. It was also difficult to follow whose perspective was being told at any given time. There are a few good twists though. For more details, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks. This review was written based on a digital copy of the book from Bookouture.

In a "closed room" style mystery, a young woman working a resort which is on an island mysteriously turns up dead on the beach one morning. Because it is on an island, we know that someone on the island must have done it. We get to meet three sets of travelers, told from multiple POVs throughout the book. Three women are at the island with their significant others. Each couple has its own storyline, backgrounds, and histories that will be fleshed out in the psychological thriller. Will there be more deaths before the police can figure out who killed the young woman? Did one of the guests know the woman from before?

This book started off strong for me, and then fell into the realm of the unbelievable. A couple of the main characters acted so silly and stupid that I can't believe any living human would make the choices that these seemingly intelligent people are making. This book almost seems to be a stream of conciousness wherein the author doesnt even stop to think if certain aspects make sense.

The overall storyline is ok. This book actually caused a reading slump for me because I kept finding myself not wanting to read it. I finally pushed through and therefore gave it two stars.

Special thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this much appreciated ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sue Watson never fails to write a completely gripping and fantastic book. The Resort is one of my favourites by this author.

The setting if this one is gorgeous and Watson has transported me. This is a setting which has been utilised to maximum.

This is entertaining and perfectly paced. I have found the characters interesting and have mixed opinions of.

The book contains the perfect level of twists and turns. This book has made my pulse race on occasions and I have no regrets in devouring page after page of this gem.

This is a perfect summer read. I loved this book and can safely say this is a favourite by this author. I wish I could experience this as a first read all over again.

Unfortunately, I have been locked out of my netgalley account for a few months and was not able to see which books I had on my list or even know to check if they downloaded properly, in order to properly read and review. I do apologize and am doing a 3 for neutral. Will update once I’m able to obtain a copy and read!

Three women and their husbands take a trip to the exclusive Fitzgeralds resort on an island off the coast of Britain for what they think will be a relaxing holiday - and in one case, a honeymoon! The women - Same, Daisy and Becky - quickly become friends and share confidences about their lives and marriages. But everything goes south when a young waitress is murdered and her body is found by Daisy and Same. Soon afterward, Daisy is attacked when walking at night. Everyone becomes suspicious of everyone else as they are asked to stick around the island as police investigate. No one knows who to trust - not even their own spouses, who seem to be keeping plenty of secrets of their own.

The story is told from the POV of each of the three women.

This book has multiple great storylines going at once: the main mystery of who killed Stella (the waitress) and attacked Daisy; and the personal storylines going on with the relationships involving the women and their spouses which are incredibly interesting as well. Each has an issue in their life which they are uncertain about, which is causing them to question things, and the book follows them working through it. I found it interesting to follow those stories just as much as the mystery.

As for the mystery, it was pretty good. I didn't figure it all out until it was revealed. It has plenty of twists and turns that just kept things coming and coming until the end. I was really surprised at some of them. But my lips are sealed.

So overall, this was definitely a different kind of isolated resort mystery because you really got to know all of the major players and develop theories based on their personalities and some of the things we learned about from their private lives. It definitely felt very Agatha Christie-like in that way.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good character-driven mystery and drama!

Another cracker of a story from the amazing Sue Watson!

Three very different couples are holidaying at the luxurious and expensive 5-star Fitzgerald’s Hotel. Sam and David are on their honeymoon, Becky and Josh are celebrating their 20th Wedding Anniversary and Daisy and Tom are trying to reconnect and regroup after a tumultuous few years of marriage. Fitzgerald’s is known for its glamour and elegance and all six should be enjoying a perfect holiday at a perfect destination, the hotel makes sure its guests want for nothing and coupled with a heatwave it should be an idyllic getaway. However, when one of the hotels employees, Stella, is found dead, at the bottom of the picturesque cliffs by the hotel suddenly the holiday for everyone turns into a nightmare. The police arrive and quickly determine the death as murder and as Fitzgerald’s is on an island, cut off from the mainland, they are certain the murderer is still on the island. The police seal off the island with no-one being allowed to leave and the investigation begins. None of the guests feel safe and although friendships begin to be made through shared trauma, suspicion and lies lurk around every corner and the guests start to wonder who is hiding the deadliest secret of all.

What a story!! Sue Watson is another author who never disappoints me. Only a few pages in and I started to despise David and that continued throughout the entire book, however I love when an author makes me feel so intensely about a character. The story telling was so good I kept feeling the tension ramping up and up and despite my brain working overtime I just couldn’t figure out who the baddie was and therefore the twist/s at the end were just shocking and brilliant. I actually didn’t expect a book that was set in the height of a British summer heatwave to be so creepy, but it was…… which was quite good timing with Halloween just around the corner.

Another stunner from Sue Watson, I highly recommend this one for any reader who enjoys psychological thrillers with a lot of suspense. If you haven’t read a book by Sue Watson yet you really need to! Brilliant!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sue Watson and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

Give me all the vacation mystery books! I absolutely love the atmosphere, the characters and of course, the murder! We have 3 couples on vacation at the lux Fitzgeralds resort in England. At first it was a little hard to remember which couple was which but it comes together nicely in time. All characters were well developed and enjoyable to follow for their own reasons, Some are likable and others absolutely vile but it was thrilling to watch them and the storyline unfold.

One of my favorite books of the year.

I do need to caution TW for sexual assault and child loss.

We are introduced to three couples who are all enjoying a break at an exclusive island hotel in Devon. Sam and David are on honeymoon after a whirlwind romance. Sam feels really insecure as David is suave and sophisticated but she realises that there a lot of things she doesn’t know about her husband. Daisy and Tom are a high flying couple who are hoping to mend their marriage after their IVF has failed. The third couple is Becky and Josh who have left their children at home after having some devastating news. Josh seems to be too controlling and appears to be obsessed with jogging. When a body of one of the waitresses is found at the bottom of the cliffs no one is allowed to leave the island as the police start their questioning as everyone is a potential suspect. We then gradually learn about the background of the three couples and all their lies and secrets are gradually revealed. This is an addictive and chilling read with a final unexpected twist. A highly recommended book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
