Sue Watson is always a go to author for me that I know I will enjoy This book moved at breakneck speed with this thrilling whodunit. Putting three couples on a secluded island with secrets and a murderer? No way off the island? That’s a recipe for some spine tingling tension. With so many suspicious people this is one mystery I did not solve and the ending left me with my jaw dropped. Highly recommend this one!

This was a good read and would be a perfect beach read!

Three couples go to the exotic, exclusive island getaway for different reasons—healing, celebration, and a last hurrah. But what they thought was going to be a relaxing, luxurious vacation, turns out to be a nightmare they can't escape. When the young waitress from the hotel bar is found dead on the beach, everyone at the resort becomes a suspect, and the resort becomes a crime scene. The women, who have become close, begin to question their friends' husbands, and their own husbands. As strange occurrences continue to happen, everyone is on guard. But how can you know if the one you married so someone you can really trust?

I have read several of Watson's titles, and really enjoyed them. I love the different dynamics she creates between spouses in her domestic thrillers. They are all so different, unique, and realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed her books, including Our Little Lies, The New Wife, and The Forever Home—and The Resort did not disappoint. I found it to be a quick, enjoyable read that I devoured in two sittings. I would've kept reading it in one sitting but I ran out of time.

All of the female characters were likeable in their own ways, and I wanted to root for them all. All of the male characters were despicable, and Watson did a great job of planting the seeds for the reader to dislike the male characters, through their vile behaviour and treatment of the women there.

The setting was vividly described and created much imagery that contributed to my enjoyment and visualization of the plot. I will definitely be reading more from Sue Watson in the future. Thanks for the opportunity to read and review this title.

This was a fun book! I read it so fast, that I can hardly remember the details. What I can say is that for anyone who watched the HBO show The White Lotus, this book really felt similar to that type of storytelling. Multiple guests arrive at a hotel, all with literal and figurative baggage. A resort worker is killed early on in the trip, and all of the guests currently staying there cannot leave during the ongoing investigation. Each of the three main couples in the novel are struggling within their relationship. The women in the couples alternate narrating betwen chapters, and we get to see the events unfold through their eyes. Did one of their husbands kill the beautiful resort employee? Or was it one of them? One one critism of this book is that the person who is revealed at the end didn't make a ton of sense to me. Their character must have been extremeely good at hiding their true self. Because the way they were written, there is no way that their spouse would ever have not known this secrect personality their partner had. Great beach read!

I enjoyed this but felt as it was one of those books where the journey was better than the actual destination.

I felt there were too many perspectives, including chapters from couples which I didn't see the point in. I also felt that the relationship between all these characters wasn't very realistic, by that I mean how close these people got to other people that they've just met; I know they were thrown together in strange circumstances and they were a captive audience but I found it very farfetched that they were spilling their deepest secrets to people they'd just met.

I liked the setting and found the author was very good at making the reader feel as though they were as isolated as the characters.

As I said I enjoyed the journey more than the actual destination, when all the ends were being tied up it just felt a bit too convenient if that makes sense.

Worth a read.

First of all, thank you very much to Netgalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for my copy of this.

This was my first Sue Watson book and it won’t be my last. If there’s anything I enjoy during the summer, is a good summer thriller that I can sink my teeth into. This would be a perfect read for going on holiday with (although you may want to keep your wits about you after reading this 😂)

It was written from the perspectives of three women who were on holiday at this luxury island resort with their husbands. Suddenly, the corpse of one of the waitresses is discovered, and it becomes an Agatha Christie style story. They strike up an unexpected friendship and they all have doubts about their husbands’ involvement in the murder.

It took me a while to not mix the couples up to begin with 😂 but they each had an interesting tale to tell. The characters were complex with plenty of secrets - you have no idea what is going on underneath the surface with them. Some were detestable, like David, and I wanted to shake Sam for putting up with him. My heart was breaking for Daisy, and Becky (for different reasons).

I really enjoyed how twisty this thriller was. I was convinced I had the right person but then something else happened… and I was like… oh maybe not then. I was also surprised by the ending.

There were some triggery themes in this, such as : miscarriage/baby loss, and rape.

Overall, a compelling and addictive thriller, packed with jaw-dropping twists, that had me guessing from page to page. I highly recommend this - especially as a thriller for a summer read.

Fast paced thriller that I enjoyed. I did at times have trouble keeping up who is who, as they seemed similiar at times and not distinct enough. But enjoyed the story. Thank you publisher and netgalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.

The Resort by Sue Watson

The story started off real strong with three couples vacationing in a fancy resort for the wealthy. We learn about each couple. A waitress is found murdered and then the story takes off.

I had to sit on this book a few days to write this review. I really liked the story but I did not like the pile on to one character who was already dealing with trauma to pile more on to her was what turned me off about this book. Also, It was hard to tell which character was who between chapters I felt like they all had the same voice not different voices the only way to tell who was talking was to go back and see in the chapter who the author is talking about. This might probably would be corrected with the audio version of the book with the narrator giving different voices to the characters. Another thing that annoyed me every male character in the book where terrible human beings they where just disgusting period. Not one of them where likable period.

So here I am mixed feelings about the story. It really started off strong and then turned into a big messy story. I did not hate it but I did not love the story either so how I will rate it as a 2.5 stars rounded to 3 stars.

Sue Watson please never pile on the trauma to a character who already was traumatized in the story don't add more it just turns readers off. We read this in a group and discussed it we all pretty much felt the same way about this book. The story had so much potential but took a detour in the wrong direction with the trauma pile on.

Thank You to Netgalley and Bookouture for a free copy of this book for an honest review.

This is my review of The Resort.

Three couples are on a holiday at a private island resort, “Fitzgerald” on a rugged island in the middle of the ocean. But this getaway soon turns into a nightmare!

Daisy and Tom are trying to enjoy a luxury break, and celebrate the end of something. It had been a difficult year for them, after the tragic loss of their child and after three unsuccessful rounds of IVF, they have stopped treatment and have had to accept reality. Daisy had worked as an art director for a fashion magazine, and had put her career first and waited later to have a child. Now at thirty-eight, Daisy must accept a future without a child. She was now lost and afraid her younger husband would look elsewhere for his opportunity to having a family.

Sam and David were on their honeymoon, after only six months together. Sam, a hairdresser is insecure about her looks. David always surrounds himself around beautiful women, loving the attention.

Beck and Josh had been married for over twenty years and her husband brought her to the resort to relax and make her happy again. Josh is very controlling and treats his wife like a child.

The couples soon become friendly.

But then a beautiful waitress, Stella from the restaurant is found lying dead at the bottom of the cliffs. And now everyone is questioned by the police in this murder investigation.

They all had their secrets…

“Who knows what goes on in other people’s marriages?”

This was a gripping, fast-paced, well written thriller that is well worth the read.

A beautiful, secluded island resort sounds like a dream but for the three couples in this book - it becomes a nightmare! A mix of drama, love and loss Watson will keep you on your toes every page you turn.

Sam and David are newly weds on their honeymoon, Daisy and Tom are grieving from a recent loss, Sam and Becky and Josh are spending some time away from their families. All are away for different reasons but they will all leave for the same reason. A mysterious murder occurs of a staff member at the hotel, and everyone is a subject. Being on an island, they are trapped knowing that there is a murderer on the island with them.

The narrative was creative and used spacing and exposition of the tension between characters well.

The direction of the story took a few turns that I wasn’t expecting. Sometimes it was hard to follow along with.

If you’re a thrill seeker this novel is for you.

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟out of 5

Thank you to Netgalley for this eBook ARC! This book follows three couples (from the point of view of the wives, Sam, Daisy, and Becky) as they vacation on an island at a fancy resort called Fitzgerald's. Sam and David are on their honeymoon. Daisy and Tom are trying to move on from something that will never be. Becky and Josh are enjoying vacation away from the kids while Becky struggles with an illness. Then things go wrong start to go wrong.. Stella, one of the resorts workers, is found dead. Now no one can leave the island until the investigation is done. The murder brings three very different couples together and creates unlikely friendships.

Rating: 3/5 stars
Trigger warnings: rape, child loss, assault

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing throughout the whole storyline. The one thing I hated (initially) was how all the husbands were portrayed terribly. I mean.. how do these women stay with these men?! No doubt created and portrayed in such a way to create unreliable characters and continue with the suspense. The ending threw me off. Everything was solved in the epilogue of each character (Becky, Daisy, Sam, and even Stella) and it felt very rushed. To be fair, I didn't guess any of the twists, which I always like!

4.5 stars! I hadn't heard much about this book, but the beautiful cover caught my eye on Netgalley, and I was fortunate enough to be approved to read it! This is a great summer thriller - fast-paced, suspenseful, and atmospheric. The resort/ island setting was fantastic, and I really loved the author's note which explained that Fitzgerald's was inspired by the Burgh Island Hotel, where Agatha Christie frequently stayed and used as inspiration for a few of her novels (it was fun to Google after I finished reading)! Told through the POVs of Sam, Daisy, and Becky, the locked-room aspect added to the tension as well, and the final twist really surprised me! I definitely look forward to reading more from Watson. Thanks so much Netgalley and Bookouture for the e-ARC

A honeymoon an a secluded island resort is just what Sam wanted for her and David. But when an employee of the resort turns up dead, all the guests are forced to stay on location. This is another Sue Watson thriller that keeps you guessing.

The Resort was sort of in the middle for me, not great but not bad. Dreadful characters abound for the most part, especially the men, while the women were all a bit flaky. Something was off about this book but I'm not sure what it was, it just seemed a bit flat and a bit shallow to me, although I seem to be very much in the minority with that opinion.

3 Stars

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

While I liked the premise of this book, I couldn’t get enough clarity with the characters to remember who was who, and so the plot got lost while I kept backtracking to remember their stories. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I think this book started off strong but the ending was tied up a little too nicely for my taste but still somehow left me with so many unanswered questions!

This book was a great fast read, I love a good mystery where there are multiple people involved and you have to keep guessing. Just when you think you have it all figured out the ending blows everything out of the water!
