What a cracker of a mystery thriller! The Resort grabs your attention from the first page. It draws you in, keeps you alert and will make you doubt yourself over whodunnit countless times!

The setting is a small island off the Devon coast. It’s hot, stuffy and claustrophobic. All the characters are stuck here after a body was found on the beach at the bottom of the cliff. The police are watching and interviewing everyone. There are 6 main couples who are in the spotlight. Sam and David, are newlyweds on their honeymoon and have only known each other a few months, Tom and Daisy are trying to make their marriage work after the loss of their son and Becky and Josh. They are a couple with teenage kids, hiding a secret and trying to face reality.

The Resort is a clever book, just as you think you know who is the suspect, it’s whipped away from you and you have to start over! Full of tension and unease, this book was exactly what I wanted it to be – as are all of Sue Watson’s books. I donn’t think I’ve been disappointed by a single of of them as yet!

Holiday of your dreams or an unfolding nightmare? meet three couples on holidays for different reasons at the fancy Fitzhenry Resort. A place filled with glitz and glam, with a side of death and darkness. When one of the young women working at the resort is found dead at the bottom of a cliff, everyone becomes a suspect and everyone is suspicious of their new friends…and some begin to doubt the actions and intentions of their own partners. I love a location read and this one was an easy, binge- able read. Told from varying viewpoints, we get a glimpse into the lives of each couple, and the guests and staff they meet during their holiday. All wrapped up with a surprising ending that I did not see coming!

This is my first of Sue Watson’s novels, I really enjoyed this. Lots of characters and some interesting twists and turns which kept me gripped! The prologue grabbed my attention right away too and I will be looking for more to read from this author.

This novel has a few twists that really added to the suspense. This was my first novel by Watson, but definitely not my last.

Fitzgerald’s is a glittering, exclusive resort that sits like a jewel on an island just off the Devon coast. Access is via boat, which adds to the sense of privilege that it exudes … but also to a feeling of isolation when things go wrong.

Sam and David are at Fitzgeralds on their honeymoon. David is quite at home in these luxurious surroundings, but Sam feels out of her depth. It’s all very unfamiliar to her and she’s uncomfortable with the lavish environment, not sure how to relax and allow herself to fit in. It doesn’t help that her new husband isn’t the most encouraging and is making her feel the opposite of ‘relaxed’.

Daisy and Tom have come to Fitzgeralds to recover from a recent trauma and to try and heal the rift that seems to have appeared in their marriage. A gorgeous couple who seem to be perfect together, with everything they could want or need in life … except for one thing. But there’s an undercurrent running between them that seems to go beyond the hurt they’ve come here to fix.

Becky and Josh are spending time at Fitzgeralds celebrating an anniversary and some time without their children. But Becky seems scared of her own shadow and very much under Josh’s control. She barely says a word without first checking with him, and even then Josh talks over her or disagrees with what she says. What could possibly be the problem in this beautiful place where they should be relishing their time together?

The three couples meet and while the women form tentative bonds, there’s immediate tension and one-upmanship between the men. But then disaster strikes: Stella, a pretty and ambitious young staff-member, is found dead at the bottom of a cliff. After an initial question as to whether it could have been suicide, things very quickly develop into a murder investigation. Who on earth would have wanted to kill this girl in a gorgeous holiday destination that resembles Paradise? it’s too shocking to even contemplate.

But Fitzgeralds has a dark past that seems to have reared its ugly head once again. As the case gains momentum it quickly becomes clear that each one of these couples has their own secrets. And as the story unfolds, narrated in alternate chapters by Sam, Daisy and Becky we discover just how hard they’re all working at maintaining the facades that they’re presenting to each other, and (they hope) to the police. Each harbors deep insecurities. The cracks that lie just under the surface are becoming deeper and deeper, threatening to explode at any moment. But who will be first?

Sue Watson paces the action perfectly in this page-turning thriller. She builds the tension just that little bit at a time until the reader is literally on the edge of their seat, waiting for the next cliffhanger to drop! Her characters are the right mix of good and bad – we know they’re all hiding something, but it just depends on how much each one is willing to share, when they’ll do it, how they’ll do it, and at whose expense? The strategic game is always being cleverly played!

This is a 5 star read! Highly recommended.

I love Sue Watson books, you always know you're in for a treat when you read one!

The Resort is a fast paced, highly engaging read, drawing you into its pages, taking you on a holiday unlike any other.

The plot is super twisty, suspenseful and so compelling. It's told from three POVs and it's characters are rather an undesirable bunch aren't they? But they make the story what it is!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Resort and would highly recommend it.

Three couples, an isolated luxury resort and one dead waitress.

The prologue instantly grabbed me and not knowing who had narrated it was the first of many mysteries.

We then meet the guests Sam, Daisy, Becky and their husbands. One is there on her honeymoon, one on a make or break holiday following a stillbirth then failed IVF attempts with her younger husband and one is on anti depressants and knows her husband lies.

Fitzgerald’s is dripping in glamour as too are the guests but this hotel needs to put up a big red flag. The gaslighting in this book from the god awful husbands had me screaming and wishing that one of the other guests would be a damn good divorce lawyer.

Sam especially had my complete attention when we learnt of her new husband’s first wife Marie and her crazy outburst. To then be a first hand witness to his cruelty made me think maybe Marie wasn’t actually that crazy.

The author cleverly plants seeds of doubt as to the reliability of the wives too so you are never quite sure who to place your trust in. There is jealousy, insecurity and emotions flying off the pages and this is a superbly crafted whodunnit.

Yes the characters are mostly horrible but who doesn’t love a good baddie or three! So if you want a book that will have you silently raging and gasping in shock in equal measure, in a setting that is seeped in glamour but seems faintly tarnished with a dark malevolence then you won’t go wrong with The Resort.

Sam, Daisy, and Becky each arrive to the beautiful and luxurious Fitzgerald’s resort on an island in the UK for vacation with their significant others. Sam is newlywed on her honeymoon with David, Daisy and Tom look to reconnect on their trip, and Josh and Becky are having what might be their last hurrah. The group form bonds almost immediately. But shortly after, murder and mayhem begin to occur on the island. They’re unable to leave, and everyone in their group becomes a suspect and a potential next victim.

This is my first of Sue Watson’s novels, inspired by folks raving about her on book social channels. I would definitely read her work again!

Fair warning to everyone that it is written in U.K. style so there are terms and such we are not accustomed to in the U.S.

The story was entertaining and suspenseful. The character development was fantastic and I didn’t see the end coming, although I think the ending could’ve been more exciting. It was a very long lead up to be resolved in only a couple pages. I was left wanting more.

Wow! Six really messed up people manage to fine each other in a huge resort.

I enjoyed this book, and it was easy to read. I absolutely loved the cover and felt a sense of anticipation as I began to read. It grabbed me quickly and I knew it would be something that held my interest throughout. It did. However, towards the end, I had to keep checking to see which evil person’s thoughts we were reading. Each person had an usually high number of disturbing characteristics. All were nice at times, and all were really awful at other times. This works great to keep the reader guessing about who the killer is but is very confusing, as well. If only four of the six main characters were evil, for example, the reader could still be guessing but would understand the book better when reading it. At times, none of the men seemed to have any redeemable qualities and could be interchangeable. I would hope that in a group of six, not all of them had lied, stolen, killed, abused, etc.

I LOVE Sue Watson books! Her writing flows wonderfully, the twists keep you hooked and furiously turning the pages.

I loved the setting for The Resort. Fitzgerald’s sounds like a dream The characters are well-developed and I enjoyed the tension between all of them. And once again Sue Watson delivers on a shocking ending!

This is the perfect addictive thriller to read this summer!

Mmm. Well, I wanted a mindless thriller to distract me and I certainly got mindless!

The setting of this book was really well done with lots of atmospheric writing. However, the writing was super cringy with really weird dialogue and the most one-dimensional characters with some REAL issues, and in an unlikeable way, not a relatable way.

The ending just kept going with the crazy twists, so I guess I couldn't put it down??

I love Sue's books and this one was brilliant! It sucked me in immediately and I literally couldn't put it down.

The setting is a luxury Art Deco hotel on an island in Devon where 3 very different couples meet to enjoy a relaxing, pampering holiday. But soon a body is found on the hotel's private beach. Suddenly the secluded island seems more frightening than relaxing and, when they find themselves unable to leave, their luxury break becomes a terrifying nightmare.

I was hooked on this book immediately! The wonderful picturesque, but isolated setting, which I straight away recognised as Burgh Island in Devon having once been lucky enough to stay there. The multi layered, relatable characters who seemed to come alive within the pages. And of course the unrelenting tension as, I, like the protagonists, didn't know who to trust. The isolation and terror of the characters was so realistically portrayed, I just had to keep reading to find out what happened!

I've read all the author's psychological thrillers and every one continues to enthrall me. Highly recommended and am eagerly awaiting Sue Watson's next book.

I loved the idea of this one! Three couples at a fancy resort and tragedy strikes. I was excited to see where the author went with this one. The pacing was good and though I thought all the men in the book were jerks, I couldn't figure it out. I did enjoy how the 3 women's stories were unfolding in their own way. A little more than half way through though the story took an unexpected and unnecessary turn and was the unraveling of the book. The ending was all over the place and then some. The way things were explained and revealed was more like "everything and the kitchen sink" approach and very scattered. There was an epilogue for each of the woman and it basically spelled out everything that had happened in the book. Only one of the epilogues had any wow factor. So this one gets 3 stars, but I would try another one by this author.

Three stars is being generous but I did really like the first half. This book started off very interesting and exciting. Three couples are on vacation at the illustrious Fitzgerald, for three different reasons; a honeymoon, a grieving/moving on, a reconnection. But when the body of a young waitress is found, everyone becomes a suspect. Umm, the husbands in this book? Complete and utter assholes. From the very beginning until the very end. Holy damn I hated each of them. I was getting along pretty well with this book for awhile, enjoying the turns it was taking. Until we come to a certain point maybe 65% through. Then I had a bitter taste in my mouth and wasn't having fun anymore. <spoiler>I hate rape as a plot device. So the woman can "overcome" something. Ugh it's disgusting. A choice that author made that I don't agree with and hate to see as a trope in books. When a character has already gone through so much trauma and then more trauma is piled up on them.</spoiler> Then by the time we got to the end, I was disillusioned. I didn't for one second believe that was the waitress's murderer. Or the other thing that happened and we didn't know who did it. Nothing leads the reader to suspect either of people!

I loved Watson’s The New Wife & had to read her latest. It’s a page-turner that kept me engaged and guessing throughout! Fabulous read!

Loved this book the characters interacted well, the book flowed well it kept my interest all the way through the book it was great!!!

Each of the couples seem to have some sort of suspicions about there own partners. Not all couples are as happy as they appear on the outside! The cracks start to show!!

The story is told through each of the main characters.
This hotel sounded beautiful! The author Sue Watson also shared some photos of the hotel that she visited, that was the inspiration for this story. It was exactly as I imagined, with lots of Art Deco!

I don’t know how many times I changed my mind, who I thought was responsible……… and that ending! Ahhhh you got me Sue Watson …. Didn’t see that coming!

3 couples that have never met gather at a posh resort on an island and become holiday friends.

Sam and David are on their honeymoon after only a short courtship of 6 months. How well can you really know someone in such a short amount of time? He's well off and she never had money, so she scooped him up quickly before he could realize he didn't want her. Sam has major self-esteem issues. David gave me a sleazeball vibe right away.

Daisy and Tom are a confident and appealing looking couple, but she's older by 8 years and having a tough time coping after losing a baby. They're away to try to work on their marriage. Can they let go of the sadness they are both feeling and find their way back to each other?

Becky and Josh are away to take Becky's mind off some issues she's having. Josh is always insisting Becky can't drink, needs to take pills and rest. Is he controlling or is something else going on? For all the running Josh does I'd expect his legs to be made of steel.

Stella is a bartender, yoga instructor and a waitress. Easy on the eyes and everyone notices, which in turns makes everyone a suspect when she turns up dead on the beach.
All of the characters were maddening at one point or another. There's plenty of jealousy, secrets, suspicion, insecurity, drama and lies going on that it'll make your head spin.

I do like that it went back and forth between the characters perspectives. Each chapter ending leaves you on a bit of a cliffhanger, which made me want to turn the pages quickly to try to keep up and see if I had everything figured out. I had an inkling right away about who was involved in each little mystery. I second guessed what I thought was going on so many times because of this particular writing style, but in the end my initial thoughts were correct. I even had the hat wearer pegged from the get go.

One thing that seemed odd to me was that it was always so hot in the rooms ~ isn't this a ritzy resort that can ensure the rooms have adequate air conditioning? And if it's so hot all the time why are people wearing hoodies?

This was a quick read and fast paced too. A new to me author and I'll be on the lookout for her other books in the future.
