This is an adorable slice-of-life manga that’s more a collection of scenes than an over-arching story. It’s easy to fall in love with this hard-working, adorable penguin, though I often found his clumsy owner frustrating in his lack of awareness! Still, this is a super cute read that is suitable for middle grade and up - perfect if you’re looking for something sweet, light and funny.

This was one of the best manga I've read in a while in terms of comedy and just simplicity. I loved reading about Pen and his owner as well as his friends. It was just so adorable (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*.✧ I definitely recommend and I will definitely read the rest of the series!

I cannot wait for volume two. It's going to be an immediate buy. Such a nice light refreshing read full of funny moments. Sometimes I feel bad for our little penguin friend at how underappreciated he is in his house but the shenanigans save it all.

Penguin & House 1 is a cute and simple slice-of-life story about a penguin named Pen-chan and Hayakawa, the human he lives with. I enjoyed the book, but I hope that Hayakawa grows a little more self-aware as the story progresses, Some parts were frustrating, and I really sympathized with Pen-chan. At the very least, Hayakawa's friends acknowledge Pen-chan's hard work and call out Hayakawa's laziness.

Sawa Matsueda Savage's translation was great and really captured the comedic spirit of this title. Evan Hayden's lettering was superb as always, and I always know that a book is in good hands when he letters.

This is a really light and humorous set of skits about a person who lives with a sentient penguin. I particularly enjoyed the ones about housework. For UK audiences, the relationship definitely gives me Wallace and Grommit reminiscences. Cute, funny, homely, friend-focused joy.

Penguin & House Vol. 1 is super cute and an easy read.
The art style is simple but adorable and an overall joy to read.

This manga is as the name suggests, a slice of life about a penguin, Pen, who lives with his human roommate, Hayakawa. Pen is adept at housekeeping while Hayakawa is a lazy, ditzy university student. The plot is very light hearted and silly and is segmented into short stories about their daily life. It's a fun read if you aren't looking for anything serious.

An adorable manga about a man with a a pet penguin "Penchan."
This mute penguin is so much more, with the cute drawings that really bring him to life.
Pen can do so much, he can cook, knit, clean, shop for the best products and so much more for his owner Hayakawa.
Hayakawa I feel doesn't appreciate Pen as much as he should, but they still have a strong relationship.
I would love to read a background story of how they found each other and how he mastered the art of cooking.
4.5* rounded to 5*

Probably one of the cutest things I could imagine a comic to be written about.

Peng is adorable and I wish I could have them as my pet

Apparently this is a genre of manga that I don't really get. I had this problem with the Tanuki series I read a few months ago.
Why does no one question these extraordinary animals just going about, doing their things?
Also, Pen is too pure for Hayakawa. He deserves better.

Still, the art and Pen are adorable, so I do prefer it over the Tanuki series, even though Hayakawa needs to be smacked regularly.

3.5 🌟 rounded up

This comic volume follows Hayakawa (a kind but truly clueless human) and his pet Penguin - but 'Pen' is more than just a pet, with an aptitude for housework, cooking and more. This is a comedy which I enjoyed, though it does seem to not have an overarching plot, I really did enjoy reading about Pen's adventures. The art was great and clean, and the movements very expressive. Overall a fun and enjoyable read of many sketches.

Many thanks to Kodansha who provided an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Actually I got mixed feeling about this manga. First of all I adore Pen, an incredible Pinguin pet with extraordinary skills from cleaning, cooking and shopping for his master. Although he get lack of appreciation from his master, Pen always diligent and doing his best everyday.

Although Pen so cute and his miserable situation supposedly funny, it is not my cup of tea type of humor. The fragments of daily story feel repetitive. I will appreciate some background story about how Pen meet his master and some origin why Pen have incredible skills.

Thanks Netgalley for providing me with this book.

This was Bananya levels of adorable and what the fuck did I just witness, and I am here for it.

This freaking penguin has my heart. My soul. I would die for him.

Anyways, these are absolutely adorable shorts. If you want something simple, non committal and adorable to read - pick this up. Too freaking cute.

Sidebar, the owner drives me nuts and I want Pen to like, I dunno, have a crazy arch and become a crazy hero, but anyways, this is fantastic and I loved it.

Penguin & House, Volume 1 by Akiho Ieda is an absolutely adorable slice-of-life and comedy manga. It will appeal to fans of Sanrio or Chi's Sweet Home. The story revolves around Pen, a penguin, who lives with Hayakawa, a human. Pen can't speak, but he can do a lot of things, including: shopping, cooking, and cleaning.

Overall, Penguin & House, Volume 1 is a lovely and cute manga that would make the perfect gift for a reader of any age! One highlight of this book is how adorable the art is. Pen is so cute, and it was great watching Pen do everyday tasks even though he is a penguin. Another highlight of this book is how funny it is. Overall, if you're intrigued by the description, or if you're a fan of penguins, you won't regret checking out this book, which is available now!
