Thank you, Kodansha, for allowing me to read WIND BREAKER, Volume 1 early!

I genuinely didn't expect to enjoy this manga so much. I was surprised in the most pleasant of ways!

Haruka Sakura can’t stand weaklings. He enrolls in Furin High, a school populated with thugs, with the sole focus of fighting his way to the top. When he first arrives in town clothed in his school uniform, Sakura fully expects the townsfolk to treat him like the degenerate he claims to be. What he isn’t expecting is for the locals to welcome him with open arms. Turns out the town is now being protected by Furin High and its students are considered heroes. This causes conflict with Sakura who is unaccustomed to being accepted and who just wants to fight.

I really enjoyed the art in “Wind Breaker”. It’s very stylish and the action scenes are nicely rendered. The plot, on the other hand - I initially found it to be slightly chaotic and confusing. This was completely remedied by the finale of the first volume, though, and I think that the story shows amazing potential. I’m really looking forward to the next installment!

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this one, because teenage male protagonists aren't really my thing currently. But I adored Sakura.
The set up is better than your typical Shonen school for battling where the students are pit against each other from day one.
I won't spoil it, but it's a refreshing change and I already like the MC. I sped through this first volume and can't wait for more.

It's not quite as insane as <i>Blue Lock</i>, but it's getting there. <i>Wind Breaker</i> follows Haruka Sakura as he leaves his old town and arrives in a new one specifically to attend Thug High, AKA Furin High School. But while he wasn't looking, Furin changed its policies, and while the toughest fighters still attend, now they use their skills to protect the town rather than just brawl. To say Sakura is confused and disappointed may be an understatement, mostly because he has several chips on his shoulders thanks to his unusual coloring and has learned that "strength" equates to "hitting first." The art is excessively busy, but the premise is solid, largely because Sakura's past and how he came to be who he is is subtly done. Based on this volume, there's room for the series to grow into itself.

Liked this very much. This is one of those stories that'll just get better and better. I feel like the found family trope is upon us!
Our main character is kind of an outcast but he gets accepted by these people in this new town and he is weirded out by it. In this town people like him are considered heroes and he can't really understand why. It's wholesome and cute, but also deals with different topics.

This was a very fun read. I loved the art style, which I’m usually a little particular about, and the story was really good as well; great first volume! I thought the concept of delinquent/gangsters turned town heroes was very fresh and fun. I loved Sakura’s character, and I think I already have a favorite character, which might be Suo-san. I’m a sucker for the aloof, sarcastic characters. I’m invested; I can’t wait to read more of this series!
