The pace in this book starts off slowly. It also felt confusing. There are a few characters who I didn’t believe. This book is full of twists and is suspenseful. The characters are not trustworthy

"Just One Lie" by Ruth Harrow is a gripping and suspenseful novel that weaves a tale of secrets, loss, and the haunting consequences of one woman's past. With its atmospheric tension and a compelling storyline, the book earns a solid four-star rating for its ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

The narrative centers around Alison, a mother grappling with the recent loss of her baby daughter. As she navigates the grief that permeates her life, it becomes apparent that Alison harbors a dark secret—one she has never shared with anyone, not even her husband, Dan. The fear of her secret being exposed intensifies when Alison receives a sinister message, marking the beginning of a series of ominous events that threaten to unravel her life.

Ruth Harrow skillfully creates a sense of unease and suspense from the outset. The exploration of Alison's grief and the weight of her secret adds depth to the character, making her struggles relatable. The author expertly builds tension as the mysterious threats escalate, keeping readers guessing about the identity of the person behind the sinister messages.

The pacing of the novel is well-balanced, with each chapter unraveling another layer of the mystery. The suspense is sustained throughout the narrative, and the plot twists are executed with precision. The portrayal of Alison's emotional turmoil is authentic, allowing readers to empathize with her internal struggles.

The supporting characters, including Alison's husband and the mysterious antagonist, contribute to the overall intrigue of the story. The author masterfully integrates elements of psychological suspense, making the reader question the motives and intentions of each character.

While the novel successfully maintains its suspenseful atmosphere, there are moments when certain plot developments may feel somewhat predictable. Additionally, the resolution, while satisfying, could be more nuanced, with further exploration of the aftermath and consequences of the revelations.

In conclusion, "Just One Lie" is a compelling psychological thriller that captures the complexities of grief, secrets, and the consequences of past actions. Ruth Harrow's ability to create tension and deliver unexpected twists makes this novel a captivating read for fans of suspense and mystery. This book is recommended for those who enjoy psychological thrillers with well-developed characters and a suspenseful, atmospheric narrative.

Very average thriller for me. I thought the main character was very unlikable. I just couldn't seem to care what happened, DNF'd at about 40%. It was a slow burn which I don't mind but I couldn't connect with the main character. I usually don't mind unlikable characters, but this one was just a no for me.

Alison is finding it hard to cope after the death of her baby daughter. She has a son Adam who she adores and she has started a photography business. But the grief is always there and never goes away.

Alison has a secret and she can not tell anyone ... not even her husband. If anyone was to find out her family would disown her forever. So this secret must stay buried.

But someone seems to know her secret ... because Alison receives a sinister message and then bad things start to happen. Who and why do they want to destroy her?

A very addictive book which was brilliant from the start. I highly recommend this.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

Full of twists and turns and kept me completely captivated until the end. Could not put it down. This is the first time I have read any of Ruth Harrows books, but will definitely add her to my list of favourite authors.

I am a little delayed in writing this review because I hit a bit of a reading slump, but I have to say I could not have picked a better book to get me out of it. This is one of the best thrillers I've read in a long time. The story was really good and kept me guessing til the very end. While there were elements I figured out along the way, the overall picture was not totally obvious once the first couple pieces came together, which I liked. However, at the same time it wasn't overly complicated or based on information that wasn't given to the reader. Other than one specific detail, the reader had pretty much everything they needed to solve the puzzle by about halfway through the book, you just needed to pay attention. And while the book continued for awhile later, it did not feel drawn out or unnecessarily long.

This next bit is gonna be a little spoiler-y so proceed with caution if you want to go in to the story blind. I'm not going to spoil the actual ending but I am gonna discuss a couple characters who were not the culprits. One thing a lot of mystery/thriller authors fall flat on is believable red herrings, that is one of the places this book particularly shined, I went back and forth on Rebecca so many times while reading this book and even once I became 99% sure she was innocent in the back of my mind I was still thinking "But is she REALLY?" I was very happy to find out that yes, she was in fact innocent, just acting a little odd because of the rough time she had had in her own life.

The other thing that really impressed me is how the relationship with the husband was handled at the end. Husbands in thrillers are notorious for treating their wives like crap and most of the time they end with it all being forgiven even though they just assumed their spouse was crazy/paranoid for no reason. In the final chapter of this book the main character references going to therapy with their husband, not only for the things that had happened to them, but also for the issues between them including his treatment of her during the book.

Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot and I will be checking out other books by this author as well.

This was a great psychological thriller, it was full of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Plenty of twists and turns throughout that keeps you turning the pages. The characters were good, the story itself was exciting and the style of writing was perfect. This is the first book I have read by this author so far, I’ll be keeping my eye out for the next one out.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading this genre.

This is a good story however it doest flow well which makes it harder to follow. Alison is trying to get through her grief of her baby and open up a studio. I didn't understand who I was following at certain times and what the narrative of the story was unfortunately.

This was a very good book!!
It is about secrets of a mother and lies. She loses her baby girl but still has her son. So then she is paranoid she will lose him also and becomes over protective.

Good mystery, suspense, and twists!!

I've read other books by this author and liked them, and this new one definitely did not disappoint either. Alison just lost her baby and is trying to deal with the trauma. She decides to start her own photography business but things start to go wrong very quickly. Everything that happens is related to an event in her past that she was involved in. The book starts out a little slow but it takes off quickly after that. It keeps you guessing who the villain is until the very end and every time you think you know who it is, you're wrong. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

This book is about secrets and lies. This book is also about the loss of a baby girl. This book is also about a mother’s obsessive care and control of her other child a son to the point of paranoia and the mother thinks that there someone out there who is trying to steal him.

This book was a slow burn which only fitted together in the last few chapters. It was an interesting read however the story was filled with too many repetitive red herrings. 3 stars
