I used to love reading books by this author but, I found this one slow and plodding, not quite up to her usual standard. I struggled with the characters as I hadn't read the other two in this series. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Having read the previous two books it was with great anticipation I waited for this book and I was not disappointed.
The third book in The House of Falconer it continues the story of James Falconer and his business empire ,however it can be read as a stand alone book and as the story develops there are lots of flashbacks relevant to the emerging story.
Barbara Taylor Bradford is a brilliant storyteller and this book is no exception

This is the first book I've read by this prolific, popular writer but found that I just couldn't get into it. I realise that this book is the third in a series and maybe if I'd read the previous ones it might have been better. However, I found it all somewhat slow with rather wooden dialogue and descriptions with little plot. Some of the descriptions and conversations seemed so matter of fact and encyclopedic rather than evoking atmosphere plus there was a lot of repetition. I have given it 3 stars as fans of this author may well enjoy it but I didn't.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though I hadn’t read the previous two. A great storyline in true Barbara Taylor Bradford style. Almost rags to riches concept which kept me turning the pages. I will now go back and read the first two.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

The Somme, 1916.
James Falconer is ready to lead his men into the biggest battle of the war so far and he doesn't care if he lives or dies.
When he finally returns home he is scarred by events and there are changes at home to his business and personal life which will need to be addressed before he can move on.

I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
Really enjoyed this
I have quite a lot of BTB and did really like this easy read

I haven't read a B.T.B. book for several years. Mustn't leave it so long next time. This was a lovely story. Really good characters and a realistic and sympathetic storyline that was so easy to read. Loved the conclusion.

Although this is the third book in the House of Falconers saga and I had not read the previous two books ,this did not spoil my enjoyment of this book .Set just after WW1 James returns to England to recover from his horrific leg injuries suffered during the war, and to try and reconnect with his daughter who he has not seen since she was 13 some years ago .I enjoyed the lavish descriptions and the characters are enjoyable ,obviously James is the perfect man handsome and wonderful in every way not like real life at all !!!!
A story of love and loss and redemption .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Barbara Taylor Bradford is a prolific author, although this book, the third in the series I found a little tedious and not up to her usual standard. ANeertheless a recommended series.

A wonderful read, Unfortunately I have not read the first two books in this series but it didn't take away the enjoyment of this book I loved it and will hopefully read the first two later. It starts during the first world war where James is badly injured and when he returns home he eventually gets back to his buisness which is suffering due to the war but as a successful businessman he is sure he can turn things around.I really enjoyed the story ,all the tragedies he had endured made him quite vulnerable and when he finally meets someone he really cares for he can't move on but hopefully he will find love again and be happy. There are some great characters and it's a wonderful ,historical story beautifully written and I'm looking forward to the next book .Highly recommend read

A true delight of an historical novel beautifully written. Follow James as he works his way up from a barrow boy to a successful business man. His wife has died in child birth with a devastating effect on his life which is already blighted by a war wound to his leg. Thankfully he is surrounded by close knit siblings and friends.

Although this is the third book in a family saga, it was easy to read as a stand alone book.. This is a perfect Sunday afternoon read to curl up with, easy to read with an easy to follow plot.

The third in the series and it didn’t disappoint. I think it can be read as a standalone book but equally it’s always best to read them in order. A mixture of love, mystery and family drama. Thanks to Barbara and her publisher. Thanks also to NetGalley.

I didn't enjoy this book. Very repetitive. I got really fed up reading about how wonderful and handsome, etc, etc falconer is. I did enjoy reading about what life was like back then for the wealthy but that was it. No plot though. Kept waiting for it to get going but it didn't. Unfortunately this author is not for me.

Not having read any Barbara T
B for a long time I had forgotten what a great storyteller she is.
The book starts in 1916 in the trenches of the Somme
Major James Falconer is leading his men over the top into German territory when he is badly wounded in both legs.
After 2 years of hospital care followed by rehabilitation he goes back to work running his conglomerate. A workaholic by nature he continues to try building his empire at the end of WW1. Persuaded to join friends at a Christmas house party he is struck by a Coup de Foudre when Lady Annabelle walks in for breakfast.
However he feels the 16 year age gap is too much and tries to quell his feelings.
An enjoyable and easy read book

Major James Falconer, a well-liked leader of his platoon, is badly injured during the Battle of the Somme and is sent back to hospital in England. Whilst his legs and other wounds begin to heal he is visited by Mrs Georgina Ward, a woman who is 8 years older than him and who, in his youth, “taught him” to become a good lover. He has a daughter, Leonie, by her whom he saw during her early years, and has constantly ensured that both mother and daughter are able to Iive well. However, by the time his daughter enters her teens he has been busy with managing his business interests and then service in WWI and for some unknown reason she has cut him from her life.
When fully recovered he resumes his relationship with Georgiana, who continues to tell him that Leonie wants nothing to do with him. Having proposed to Georgiana, he is horrified that she refuses to wear his engagement ring, saying that if she does she will lose Leonie. He instantly terminates their relationship and walks away. He has become a very wealthy businessman, but realises that the war has taken a toll on some of his ventures, so whilst lonely he decides to concentrate on work and rebuild his empire.
As time goes by he still desperately wants a reconciliation with Leonie as he naturally wants her to take over his business when the time comes. Will fate take a hand and re-unite him with his daughter and perhaps also enable him to find love and happiness before it is too late ?

I have read a few of Barbara Taylor Bradford's books in the past and was surprised to see a new book after all this time. I was looking forward to reading it. Unfortunately I found the style of writing to be very 'old fashioned'. I thought at first it was because she was writing about the 1st world war but realized that this was not the case. I read about half the book but the plot was not enough to make me want to finish the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the advance copy of this book.

I read a couple of this lady’s books several years ago so was looking forward to this new one! However,, I was very disappointed. Unfortunately I found the sheer simplicity, almost childlike writing, rather irritating. The author seemed to need to clarify every motion, each event in full and not just once but several times. In addition conversation regarding the war came across as if reciting from an encyclopaedia and nothing like a normal exchange. Sorry, I did try but sadly not for me!

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have not read anything from this author for a while but have to be honest and say I wonder why. Great story, great characters. Loved it.

Another gorgeous tale by Barbara Taylor Bradford. I adore her books as well as her beautiful covers. They help you picture the story and characters before even opening the first page. Beyond excited for this one! I love the father/daughter aspect as I can relate do much to repairing if relationships. I can’t wait for readers to indulge as well and greatly am looking forward to the next!
