this was a fun and sweet rom com, with a great diverse cast of characters and one of my favourite tropes: the marriage of convenience - the historical version of fake dating! Lux Alana and Evan were likeable protagonists and the romance between them was believable and adorable. The secondary cast of characters was entertaining and I am keen to see how their stories play out in the rest of the series. The subplot about Evan's father's shenanigans was cleverly done too. The only thing I disliked about this book was the level of smut, which was a bit too much for me. It wasn't enough to put me off the book completely though, and I would read more from this author.

I enjoyed the premise of this book and the Leonas are a fantastic friend group, but I have really struggled to get into it. I started prior to publication and couldn't concentrate, and then tried with a group of friends as a buddy read, but fell behind quickly. I found that there was too much world-building and it felt like it was dragging for me, so the first 1/4 of the book I just wanted the story to properly get going.
I liked that Luz and Ewan had their agreement initially and I really liked how Luz handled business and wanted to do it herself. I also loved that we got a historical romance which wasn't in London- it felt refreshing to be in Paris instead- I was also delighted by the level of steam! In spite of this, I found that even as the pace picked up I wasn't invested in returning to the book to finish.
Just to add, I love the other books I have read by Adriana Herrera (both in the historical anthologies and the Dreamers series), which is why I will definitely continue with this series- I think it's a case that I read this at the wrong time.

A fantastic romance. I enjoyed everything about it immensely. My favourite trope is done so well as I love marriage of convenience.

We need more historical romance like this, that marries tried-and-true romance tropes with new settings and characters. A Caribbean Heiress in Paris is Adriana Herrera's first historical romance novel and the start to a very promising series. If you love:
- marriages of convenience
- historical businesswoman
- loving and banter-filled families of ye olden days
- men who are in awe of their (supposedly temporary) wives
- diverse nationalities & backgrounds in histrom
- historical alcohol
- socialism, basically!!!!
READ THIS BOOK! I also loved the author's habit of ruthlessly dragging Britain for everything it’s ever done

Be prepared to laugh, swoon, and fall head over heels in love with the unforgettable characters in this wonderful novel. I was enthralled from start to finish, and I’m still floating.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publishers for a free ARC in exchange for a review!
I adored this book!! This was one of the most fun historical romances I've read in a very long time, but it was very grounded in the realities of being a Black woman in the time period, and so well-researched in the legacy of the Scots in the Caribbean.
Luz Alana is a wonderful protagonist. She is kind, feisty, loyal, and has a wonderful cast of friends around her. I am desperate for each of the Leonas to get their own books!
Evan is also a great character, his sense of morals and familial love and duty are really lovely, as is his banter with Luz Alana. They make a really wonderful pair, and their relationship is so fun to watch unfold.
I really enjoyed the story, although I felt that the villain reveal at the end was a bit ridiculous. I think it was done more for a shock than actually being seeded throughout the book, but that was a really minor thing for me.
If you are looking for a historical romance that has everything you love about the genre plus diverse characters, rum, and amazing banter, this is the book for you! Five stars from me.

Thank you to Little, Brown Book Group UK and NetGalley for this ARC.
Herrera's book was a quick and easy read for anyone in the mood for a historical romance full of interesting and fleshed out characters. From the Caribbean heiress to a black female doctor, and much much more, it actually makes you excited to read the sequels because somehow, in such a short book, you fall in love with almost every side character.
Fair warning, there is still racism in this book. There are many diverse characters but it doesn't ignore the problems of the time.

I fell in love with the cover and thoroughly enjoyed this highly entertaining bodice ripper featuring a feisty and clever heroine.
It's an entertaining and well written historical romance that i recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

With responsibility for her sister sitting on her shoulders and her inheritance tied up with a unscrupulous trustee, Luz travels to Edinburgh (via Paris) to bring her family’s rum business to European shores. Evan, Earl of Darnick, is in Paris for business, his whisky distillery the only part of his lofty inheritance that he is interested in claiming. A marriage of convenience might help them both claim the inheritances they desire, but what happened when you mix whisky and rum?
Fair warning: this book is very steamy! The fireworks between the two main characters are undeniable and the consequence of these fireworks is described in sensually explicit detail. However, it is the emotional connection between the characters I found most engaging. They started as strangers and were drawn closer and closer together through a whirlwind of events which leave them tangled. In untangling their relationship, and their lives, Luz and Evan share some very touching moments that make the book impossible to put down.
Separate to their shared chemistry, Luz has an explosive character that jumps off the page. She laughs in the face of typical 19th century conventions and doesn’t care who knows it. Even when facing rejection her character stays strong, yet in the end she is not against accepting help where it is offered – as long as it is on her own terms. Evan is a slightly more subtle character. His morals and goals are clear and he does not waver from them.
Overall the plot of this book has just the right amount of intrigue: inheritance disputes, surprise siblings, family secrets, and a dramatic grand finale.

Where do I start?
That cover is so beautiful, and it really depicts the way I see our heroine. A strong lead, from a diverse group of characters that is also compassionate and human and beautiful inside.
Evan is a Scottish lord that became enraptured by her beauty even if he doesn’t want to admit it in the beginning.
The author has a way with her words and I loved her stories in the past for inclusion and, most of all, for the way the story just flows and makes you dream of the settings and characters.
The chemistry in this book is undeniable, and while we know they will end up with a happily ever after, the way to that is very tumultuous. But, somehow, with all the difficulties that come their way, it’s a doable thing and it really made me read the story in one sitting.
Steamy, warm and fuzzy heart, in the capital of love, these characters make a beautiful romance worth every second of your life spend in their company.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy

A frothy and fun diverse historical romance!
Historical romance novels tend to be pretty uniform in their protagonists and I loved that Adriana Herrera decided to do something really different and, frankly, desperately needed, with the first installment of her new Las Léonas series. It reads like a breath of fresh air!
Luz was a fierce and loveable heroine. She is a strong business woman and is determined to make her way in a society that has trouble accepting her. I love that she never wavered in her determination and still stayed a soft and warm person when with her friends and family.
I also enjoyed Evan, the Scottish lord infatuated with Luz. He worships the ground she walks on and never stands in her way. He feels very protective of her but learns throughout the story to let her do things in her own way, which I really appreciated.
It also is very clear how well-researched this novel is, from the historical facts of the world expo and the presence of the British in the Caribbean and the consequences of that, to the lives of unconventional characters of the time. This book features a lot of diversity and I loved seeing it!
If you love historical romances by Lisa Kleypas, Courtney Milan or Beverly Jenkins, and also enjoy contemporary romance by authors like Talia Hibbert, I'm positive you'll love this book as well.
(Thank you to NetGalley, Adriana Herrera and Little, Brown Book Group UK, Piatkus for providing me with an eARC for this book in exchange for my honest feedback. All opinions in this review are my own.)
