I loved this fantastic and adorable romcom, it was everything I could want in a read, easy to fall in it’s pages when you don’t want to come out again , baking themed and grumpy/sunshine trope. The chemistry of our couple if great and their banter was just wonderful, This will definitely be on my reread list as I loved the couple and the book so much, I still want more. Perfection

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Don’t Go Baking my Heart was such a fun read especially since it's written in dual POV from both Devon and Reba. This made me SO invested in their relationship. The banter and smut in this book is unmatched!

There isn't much conflict in this book, 'drama' isn't dramatic but if you like books with no conflict then this could be great for you!

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was SO. MUCH. FUN.

After buying Sweethand a few months ago, I was super excited to get to Don’t Go Baking My Heart, and it did not disappoint.

I always love reading a romance with dual POV, so reading from both Devon and Reba made me incredibly happy and built up that tension very nicely (and frustratingly!). The banter that Devon and Reba had was so well written and made me laugh out loud.

Definitely pick this up if you love:

💙 Angst
💙 Witty banter
💙 Grumpy/sunshine
💙 Romance books in general.

I really enjoyed this, I thought the romance was great and I liked to see Devon let loose and change. The plot was interesting too, and I liked the story development, I don't think there was much to it. I think I would've liked to have seen more enemy to lover action from the pair, I think this book was a very soft depiction of the enemies to lovers trope, and perhaps a little too soft. Devon developed feelings very quickly, or maybe I'm just a slow burn lover. I loved how both he and Reba were willing to accept each other despite their differences. But at times I genuinely felt uncomfortable with how Reba was towards him, and especially in the earlier stages of the book, it seemed very much so like Devon was also uncomfortable with I guess how "provocative" she was at times. I also wasn't a huge fan of how they would at times have sex or do sexual/flirtatious things, and then instantaneously return to some kind of strict, professional relationship where boundaries were reinstated - I found it to be a little strange and confusing at times. But I guess everyone's opinions are different, and maybe I just interpreted the book in a completely wrong way, or I have no sense of how modern day relationships and flings work - so do forgive me if I have genuinely just misunderstood what may actually be very normal. POC representation in books is not as strong as I'd like it to be, but this book was rich with it, and I absolutely adored it. I also loved how there was mention of things that a lot of black women may relate to, like wigs etc. And I loved the positive depiction of POC's in this book, it was very warming to read!

A nice light-hearted romance with island vibes.

Don’t Go Baking My Heart is a good summer quick read. Devon who is a bit of a grump meets Reba who is very fun and colourful. I enjoyed the characters and found them quite relateable and loved the characters dynamics. The storyline was predictable at points but I enjoyed the journey of the two characters.

This was a very sweet rom-com, if you pardon the pun given the baking that takes place in this book.
It was a quick, easy read and definitely one to pick up if you like grumpy/sunshine reads.
I wasn't aware that this was the second in a series of books but you can definitely read it as a stand alone. Because of how much I enjoyed this one, I will certainly be going back and reading the first one too.
The steamy scenes felt authentic and were well done.
Their chemistry and banter was great as well.
If you like baking or a fun rom-com, I would say give this a go.

I absolutely loved this romance it is a great follow up to sweethand. It has all the grumpy and sunshine vibes that I love so much (and a baking competition, what's not to like).

I love it when characters learn from each other and Devon and Reba are all about that. I really liked both protagonists and how they got under each others skin.

I hope there is another island bites book!

Loved the body positivity and the healthy relationships throughout, especially the way Reba made Devon open up more. Grumpy x sunshine for the win!

Talk about grumpy sunshine!

This book is a super cute, super sweet read. Almost enemies to lovers, without quite being enemies.

It was really really easy to read, and I managed to get through it in a day.

The main characters were loveable, and a bit annoying, and the side characters were also adorable.

Thank you NetGalley and the author for this ARC.

thank you to netgalley for my earc! i requested this book for two reasons — the first being, the absolutely gorgeous front cover. i mean, come on. just look at it! and the second was the the title. it might just be the most perfect romance book title ever.

i was so enamoured by these that i didn’t realise that this book was the second in a series, but that being said, i do think if someone was to just want to read this one, they totally could! it was completely my own fault for requesting what is, essentially, a sequel, but since new characters take the lead, it didn’t take me to too long to understand the dynamics.

‘don’t go baking my heart’ is a romance book with two well established, interesting and likeable main characters. a grumpy x sunshine dynamic, which the most sunshine-esce character you’ll meet.

her name is reba and i do just want to focus solely on her for a moment. reba has her pink (and red) wigs and she wears them with pride, her character almost solely wearing bright colours and being a flamboyant and vibrant person. she takes pride in the way she looks, she knows when she looks good and she’s not afraid to say so. she’s a joy to read about, even as we learn about her insecurities due to past relationship and family problems. yet, she never strays from that bold and confident woman who is such a contrast to her counterpart of devon.

one of my favourite things about reba and the book in its entirety is those moments of softness, when reba checks in with devon to ensure that whatever adventure she’s taken him on isn’t too much to him. it sounds minor, but as someone who heavily relates to devon (to the point where it’s kind of wild), this moments feel important. we see that though reba is teasing and likes to push devon’s buttons, she knows there are limitations for people. she understands that and him and it is just a brilliant moment to read, any time it happens.

the bantering between the pair, along the tenderness make them feel real. another of my favourite moments would be their conversation on the ferris wheel, it felt almost like a coming-of-age movie. (also the fact he won her a unicorn!!!!!)

i think it’s highly likely i’m going to go and read the first of this series now. if it’s as good as this one, i have no reason not to.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

I requested this book because of the amount of great reviews it has and I'm so glad I did. This book completely surpassed my expectations in so many ways and I wish I already had the physical copy of it to put on my shelf!

After absolutely loving the deliciousness of Sweethand, I was immediately craving more from Island Bites & felt the absolute pleasure when I discovered the second book in the series was going to focus on Devon & Reba. I mean, you've seen the cover, they are stunning!! If you love the grumpy x sunshine trope - this one is for you! Devon King is a list-making, antisocial, introverted grump of a man who is in desperate need of having fun, whether he cares to admit it or not. Enter Queen Reba, who is about to rock his entire world, with her candyfloss pink hair, extroverted personality and love for glitter - Devon doesn't know the half of what he's getting in to when he asks for Reba's help in winning a works bake-off. I completely fell in love with these two characters, they complimented each other so perfectly, the banter was never-ending and the connection was intense, which lead to some rather steamy scenes. I couldn't get enough of them and even now, I still want more. I saw so much of myself in Reba where relationship insecurities were concerned & I have always dreamed of having pink hair, so I admired her character so much. It was also an absolute delight to see how our lovely couple from book one was getting on, and catching up with other characters along the way too. I'm so excited to see if a third book will be released and who it will focus on, but for now I am going to continue soaking up the joy of Devon and Reba, because their story is one all readers should experience.

Peltier's writing style is so witty and gorgeous, you will be hooked from start to finish. You will smile, you will laugh, your heart will swoon and you will be whisked away to a Summer romance we could only dream about. Be prepared to devour this book in one go and have the best time as you do so!

I really loved Don't Go Baking My Heart. While I didn't read Sweethand I will definitely going back and reading it. I loved Reba and Devon with how they met and how they interacted with each other. I will definitely be rereading this book again!

this was a very cute and sweet romcom. it had a lot of my favourite tropes, which were written well, and the characters were amazing!

I absolutely loved this book. There were a few slow parts of the book including the ending but oh my goodness, this is exactly how to write a lust to love romance novel. I recently read a book where the lust characters where just badly written but Reba and Devon certainly are not.

I love the depth the author provides to the characters as they have flaws and fears which was great to see. At first I didn't think I would like Reba but I did fall in love with her wild and bold character. She definitely brings a spice to life.

The slow burn from enemies (kind of) to lovers was everything! The smut scenes were so good and I really love that it felt realistic.

The plot was interesting and it was nice to see Reba and Devon be a good influence on each other. I wish we had more baking scenes and I did think the bet between Reba and Devon would be a contentious plot point but it never was which I found a bit odd.

Overall really good read! I will definitely be reading the first book as I didn't realise this was the second book in a series which makes this book even better because it can be read as a standalone.

Thank you so much to @littlebrownbookgroup_uk for sending me an eARC of Don’t go Baking my Heart in exchange for a review! This one is out today (21st of June)!

REVIEW: Workaholic Devon finds himself in a tricky spot when he has to sign up for the company baking competition in an effort to appear more social so he can be considered for a promotion. The trouble is Devon doesn’t want to socialise and he can’t bake.

Enter Reba. She’s an assistant pastry chef to Devon’s brother’s girlfriend and she agrees to help him prepare for the competition with a personal side mission of bringing some fun into Devon’s life.

I’m always a sucker for romcoms with baking so of course I had to read this book! The first half fell a little flat for me as I was struggling to get invested in the main characters. I think more depth from each of their POV’s earlier on would have helped me get on board with the romance sooner. That said, I enjoyed the second half a lot more!

The characters of both Devon and Reba felt more well-rounded and like real people to me and the interactions between them felt more organic. Devon’s POV felt more human and Reba was still a big personality but this energy felt less forced. I found myself wanting the couple together in the end and I liked that, other than for a short few pages, there wasn’t too much miscommunication. This was a fun, low angst, light summer romcom.
