Ivy and Maggie are best friends and near neighbiurs. Only one house seperates them. One day they find Amy has moved in nextdoor and this is when their lives take a weird turn. A legend, a 300 year old curse, good and evil, love and hope al coem into play as the girls work together to save their community from evil.

A great book for younger readers who will find something to identify with in Ivy, Maggie or the other childen in the village. Enough scariness to make the story but not overwhelming to put younger readers off.

Magical/witchcraft investigative adventure.

Ivy and Maggie were born at the same time on Friday 13th twelve years ago. They are best friends living next to a creepy abandoned house, until one day they wake to discover the house has suddenly been renovated overnight.

None of the adults realise and are adamant it has always been that way. Ivy and Maggie investigate but find themselves embroiled in a centuries old curse, which puts the whole town in jeopardy.

This is foray into writing for a younger age group by Carrie Hope Fletcher is both charming and compelling. She matches her tone to the age group very well. As an adult I found it enjoyable, and I think the age group she wrote it for will find it very engaging. Great to have some strong female protagonists for children to relate to.

A fantastic offering from Carrie Hope Fletcher that is full of magic, fun and adventure. Just what I like in a middle grade book. Can't wait for book 2. Thank you for the ARC.

Ivy and Maggie have been best friends for years but when they witness a witch move into the neighbourhood the Double Trouble society investigates.

I’ve been quite a fan of this authors adult books and a fan of the author herself and when I saw this one I thought I would give it a go. I do think that this was aimed at the younger side of middle grade - my son is 8 and he would have managed to read this one. I really enjoyed the themes of strong friendship in this book and how you can always rely on your friends - something that is important for children. Also the fact that you can change for the better which is another important life lesson. I did think the plot was a little lacking and felt a bit rushed but I’m sure the intended audience it would have flowed better. Definitely had good messages in this book though.

My daughter really enjoyed reading this story with me - the story absolutely gripped her and she loved trying to predict what would happen next (and was often surprised!)

I was so so excited about this book and I really loved what I read so far. So three stars. However, I have to DNF at 30%. Whereas the story is absolutely wonderful, I love the magic, I love the friendship, I love the dads, I love the legends of this town, the girls are just so much fun and I love their investigations and such, I want to know if these girls are witches (and if they are what kind), Amy is a big big mystery but I am eager to find out what is going on is she bad or good?, the illustrations at the beginning of the chapter are A+, I love the title of the book and the cover. There is so much good about this book.

But I am just getting one thing not right, who is the MC? Is it Ivy? Is it Maggie? Maybe I am just too tired but I just kept losing who was narrating, for me it seemed to go from Ivy to Maggie willynilly and it made it very confusing to the point that this is why I am DNFing. I don't mind multiple POVs, in fact if it isn't too much (like I had a book with 10+ characters) I like it. But it has to be done well. By either letting us know by name who is the MC or by doing it per chapter. Chapter x is this character, Chapter y is that character.

Maybe, if I am lucky and find it in the library, I will try it again for a paperback. Maybe it is just my Kindle messing things up.

What a great spooky investigative read!
I love Halloween and a good mystery, this book covered it all.
Great story line that kept me wanting to read, characters you can easily like.

I really liked this story, it was fairly simple and straight forward but I appreciated that and I did like the couple of little twists that were included. The main characters were likeable and I thought the pacing was really good.

Maggie and Ivy have been best friends their whole lives and they’re always looking for adventure. Crowood Peak has a dark history of missing children and it’s apparently happening again. The strange thing is that the adults don’t seem to notice. Hokum House has long been empty but now, it appears to have someone living there. Someone who looks a bit witchy. Could she be the key to discovering the truth about the missing children? This whimsical, magical story is so cute and thoroughly engaging. With themes of sisterhood, found family, empowerment and love conquering all, The Double Trouble Society is wonderfully cinematic. I can see it being an adorable Halloween-esque animation! Perfect for fans of Robin Stevens’ Wells & Wong series but with a healthy dose of witchiness!

The Double Trouble Society by Carrie Hope Fletcher is a young middle grade read. It is a short book that captures the essence of being young and reading something to get you in the mood for halloween. It features spooky vibes along with witches that will make the younger ones scream.

We follow our main characters known as Ivy and Maggie. They call themselves the double trouble society as they are not often seen without each other and do cause some mayhem once they are with one another. They have been best friends ever since they were born, they were even born within the same minute! Growing up in a small town hasn’t always been fun but every year, a folk tale is told about the Crowood Witch. The story goes that 300 years ago, the crowood witch bargained her life for immortality and by doing so, she had to eat 13 children’s hearts. The Crowood Witch failed in her endeavour, and so the mission fell to her daughter to continue what she failed to do. She must eat the 13th Child’s heart. However, before she was able to do so, she was stopped and wasn’t seen for about 300 years. That is, until now.

When a newcomer to town, Amy, moves into the old Crowood House, Ivy and Maggie will not let their suspicions go that she is a witch. She eventually reveals to them that she is indeed and that her sister, Emerald, is the Crowood Witch and that it is likely she will return. She has been alive this entire time, in the form of the neighbourhood cat. But once the duo realise that they have meddled in the affairs of the sisters and that they now have some kind of magic, Emerald will stop at nothing to eventually become immortal by eating the 13th child’s heart.

This book is fantastically spooky and a well written book for the start of what is known as the Spooky Season of September and October. I obviously know this book wasn’t written for my age group but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It was a simple and easy read that I flew through whilst on the tube.

3 out of 5 stars,

I loved this book, it really gave me Hocus Pocus meets Stars Hollow vibes and I was so here for it. The storyline is a simple, enjoyable witchy adventure following two young girls and besties Ivy and Maggie who love a bit of mystery especially when it comes to the town’s folklore of the Crowood Witch and a mysterious lady moves in next door.

I loved the bond that the two girls have, how they have different personalities but compliment each other perfectly. How they together with Amethyst push past their insecurities to become confident in their own abilities and reach their inner magic. How the whole town’s kids come together to help each other and remind each other to have hope and hold onto happy memories, it really gave me the feels. Also made me want a unicorn toy. Dammit Carrie you’ve done it again.

A really charming read with a touch of spookiness, that will make you believe there’s magic in us all. Aimed at the 9-12 range and there is a good level of ambitious vocab that would be great for a younger reader for a Halloween read. The Double trouble society follows follows two best friends as increasingly strange things happen to their town and at Hokum House, the creepy abandoned house in town. I'm looking forward to reading it with my nieces when they are old enough as it has a great blend of adventure and imagination with core love values.

Yet another five star book by Carrie! This was a lot of fun and I can imagine a lot of kids being completely obsessed with the premise (which even I was at 27 years old). Magical, spooky and creepy!

I enjoyed the premise of this story - who doesn’t love a good witch story?! Unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. The characters felt one dimensional, for instance Ivy and Maggie’s friendship wasn’t developed to make them characters I felt fear for when in dangerous situations. They seemed to be friends simply because they were 1) born on the same day and 2) their dad’s are friends. So this makes them the Double Trouble Society - no further explanation given.

I do think the most positive feature of this book was the misdirection and whilst it was potentially expected I think there was enough question that it wasn’t too obvious and didn’t spoil the fun of the reveal. The pacing worked well and the reveal was not too soon or too late.

As someone who has enjoyed Carrie Hope Fletchers adult fiction this was a much anticipated read for me and I was certainly not disappointed! This story was spellbinding and the main characters were full of wit and a whole lot of fun. Fletcher’s storytelling will no doubt capture the imaginations and hearts of so many children and her debut into children fiction is a triumph!
