This is an intriguing middle grade reader fantasy and history
With a legend, a curse, magic and mystery!
Set in Crowood Peak, where two best friends reside
By a haunted house, their homes on either side.

Ivy and Maggie were born on Friday 13th and though
They're not related, they're very close even so.
They have walkie talkies to talk whilst apart
And they're using them when the events all start.

Get ready for a three centuries old curse
That guarantee things will get worse
With witches and demons and memories hidden
A spell to make adults do an evil witch's bidding!

Can the girls work together and save the town
Or will all the danger get them all down?
With magic and mystery the Double Trouble pair
Need to decide who to trust to help stop this dreadful scare.

A fun read that has lots of action to keep you engaged,
Including some folks who are getting enraged.
It seems that sisters hold the key to salvation
But how it works out is a brilliant revelation!

This children's fantasy will definitely appeal
As the intrepid best friends help the truth to reveal.
They also are key to saving the town and their friends
Though you're not sure how until the book ends.

For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review

The Double Trouble Society is a delightful spooky mystery middle grade novel focused on friendship, family and a bit of witchcraft. It follows two young girls, both born on the same day and both adopted to single male parents. They've grown up like sisters, being one house apart and using walkie talkies to communicate across the gap. Between them is Hokum House, the old abandoned house that once belonged to the Crowood Witch, a old tale linked to the town. They don't think much of it till one night someone turns up at the house and changes it into a new looking build and the next day none of the adults seem to remember the old tale or Hokum House. The girls, Ivy and Maggie take it into their hands to discover what is happening.

I really enjoyed the concept of this, having the mystery led by two young girls. The characters of Ivy and Maggie are so loveable with Ivy being a bit more timid and reserved compared to the boldness of Maggie. The pair of them make such a loveable duo, and I love how their friendship/sister relationship is a central point around the story.

There's a couple of twists along the way and you feel like even though you might be able to predict them a bit earlier (it is a middle grade novel), you end up feeling the same surprise or shock as the child characters. You feel like your on the adventure with them as they navigate through their fear.

There's a few funny moments, but for me this book seemed to give me such a nostalgia feeling. It's definitely one I would've loved as a kid, especially seeing brave little girls being the ones in charge. I loved the descriptions Carrie included on magic and how it is all around you, hidden away in every day things and people. It was just so beautifully worded and really helped the story just come to life. I almost wished it was Halloween time getting to read this just so I could enjoy a bit more of the spooky feel.

The ending of the story was done really well, it wasn't too rushed and Carrie expanded on some of the important points/outcomes of the story in these end chapters. It all wrapped up perfectly! I wish I could expand a bit more on certain parts of the story, but I really don't want to give any spoilers away. I just recommend giving it a read.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and the light-heartedness and magical feelings it gave me reading it. It's just a lovely story and has some important aspects for young children who will be reading this, such as, the importance of family and friends, but also the ability to correct your mistakes and deciding between having a positive or negative impact on others' lives and your own. It's a spooky, loving, mystery, perfect for the middle grade audience and I know it will be loved by so many children when it's released in July.

This was an enjoyable read that I think younger readers will love. Carrie Hope Fletcher's writing style lends itself really well to middlegrade. She brings a sense of fun and adventure to the story that works really well. I did find the story itself a little bit predictable, but an enjoyable read nonetheless.

the story goes two best friends Maggie and ivy both share the same birthday was born on Friday the 13th spooky !! ,( their dads have also been friends since they was young ) they live in a small town called Crowood Peak which nothing much happens there , that is until children start to disappear , There is also a spooky derelict house which all of a sudden get brought back to like by the new neighbour called Amy, the girls are very suspicious so they start to investigate what going on , and well there might be witches to o that all I'm saying.

I have read a few of carries books which I totally fell in love with , this is right up there with them they are more for young adults , where this is a middle grade book I would probably would say a child from age of 7 would be fine reading it .
I really love Carrie imagination and how she created such a fun and magical story

The friends in the story Maggie and ivy really reminded me of me and my sister when we was young we was always looking for monsters under the bed. there are so many wonderful and wacky characters in this book loved that so much .

the whole story was very fast paced easy for young children to understand ,with so much magic in the story you wont get broad ,I think its great for all to read to escape this world for a while .

This was a really imaginative, heart felt book that I would absolutely recommend to kids (and big kids) with a spooky mind and anyone who wants some adventure in their life!

It was an easy read that ticked all the boxes and truly does teach the reader about the meaning of life: love and kindness. Something we can ALL learn from.

‘We’re all capable of both good and evil, and we’re all equally capable of letting one win over the other.’

Thank you to the publishers for providing me with an eArc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I believe younger me would have devoured it on one sitting!

The characters were interesting and it was easy to fall back into reading the story when I had to put it down.

I did however dislike the Harry Potter reference. I know Carrie still loves Harry Potter but JKR and continuing to give her mentions and a platform is harmful to the lgbt+ community, especially trans women.

I know the reference wasn't done to harm anyone but it's still disappointing to see knowing the harm that HP's author has already caused.

Other than that, my only other dislike was the epilogue at the end. I know others will enjoy it ans it will earn a chuckle but to me it felt rushed and I would have much preferred to finish the book without an epilogue.

Again, thank you so much to the publishers for providing me with an early copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Maggie and Ivy are the best of friends, living either side of Hokum House in Crowood. They were born at exactly the same time, 12 years ago on Friday 13th; some say this gives them immunity to evil spirits. However, when the dilapidated Hokum House is suddenly repaired overnight and the mysterious Amy moves in, Ivy and Maggie make it their mission to find out just what is going on in Crowood.

This is a fun, magical middle-grade read. I am always a bit sceptical of 'celebrity' authors but this has a good storyline and would be a good addition to an upper key stage 2 class bookshelf.

Struggled to read this book initially but after persevering enjoyed it.

This book is prefect for the preteen market and think I would have loved it when I was about 9 years old. A fantastic witch story that will be perfect for spooky season.

Both Characters Maggie & Ivy who make up The Double Trouble Society , really are children who have great imaginations , & prove that just because some things may be imaginary to some they are not to others , in fact they are very real , even some legends have grains of truth in them too. This is a really gripping magical Book which I will be buying for my younger grandchildren & highly recommending to friends for either their own children or grandchildren . #NetGalley,#Goodreads, #FB,#Instagram, #Amazon.co.uk ,Between the Covers ,#<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/358a5cecda71b11036ec19d9f7bf5c96d13e2c55" width="80" height="80" alt="100 Book Reviews" title="100 Book Reviews"/>, #<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/ef856e6ce35e6d2d729539aa1808a5fb4326a415" width="80" height="80" alt="Reviews Published" title="Reviews Published"/>, #<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/aa60c7e77cc330186f26ea1f647542df8af8326a" width="80" height="80" alt="Professional Reader" title="Professional Reader"/>

A fun and enchanting story of best friends, curses and the magic we all have inside.
Ivy and Maggie are besties, living almost next door, except for Hokum House, a derelict old home, rumoured to be the centre of the Crowood witches legend. On a blue moon, in order to fulfill her destiny, the Crowood Witch must devour the heart of a 13th child. Legend states that it never happened and that the witch will return in 300 years.
Well that time is now and Maggie and Ivy find themselves at the centre of it.

Great characters, a brilliant plot and exciting magical encounters ensure this is a joy to read!

Thank you so much for this copy!

I love carries adult novels and really wanted to see what her writing style was like for children! And I must say I really enjoyed this book so full of friendship and mystery.
I also really loved how the parents of the main characters weren’t your typical “mum & dad” family, this is so wonderful to see in books and I truly believe children need more of this in the books they read!

I did struggle at times to truly get into the book but only because I’m a 28 year old and not an 8 year old. But if I had read this as a young child I would have been totally in love!

I will be posting a review on my Instagram on Sunday 26th June! Link to my account below 👌🏻

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I would have loved this book when I was younger. Despite being aimed at a younger audience, I enjoyed it. Fletcher is a decent writer for children's fiction, I was sucked into this book very quickly. I loved the relationship between the two main characters, Maggie and Ivy.

I would definitely buy a copy of this book for myself.

As a child and now an adult I love a good spooky read. This is a perfect stepping stone in middle grade for children who are wanting something a bit spooky, mischievous and fun. Beautifully written and easy to engage with it would be perfect to read together or for the older mid grader to read alone. I loved the inclusion of the quiz at the end as well to help keep readers engaged.
The story is well thought out and paced even if a tad cliched in places. The Double Trouble Society is made up of Ivy and Maggie, two girls who have been friends as long as they can remember mirroring the relationships of their adoptive fathers. They even live practically next door with nothing but creepy Hokum House between them. Everything is pretty boring in their town until one night when someone comes to live at Hokum House and things start to turn strange. It isn’t long before a three hundred year old curse descends upon the town and it’s up to The Double Trouble Society to find out what is going on in their town.
As I have already said the writing style fits the genre and intended audience, helping give the book an enchanted fairytale feel. The characters are well rounded for the intended age of the book being likeable, relatable to younger readers and we see them overcome their own fears or struggles. As with all fairytales and some middle grade it has messages woven into the narrative and thankfully these are some of my favourites. Acceptance, Found Family and the power that when united hope and love can overcome anything. Yes, it may seem a tad cliched, but in a society like today we could all do with a little more hope, trust and kindness to each other and I firmly believe these are values we should be helping nurture in the next generation.

I honestly loved this. I will definitely be gifting this to my friends children (and buying a copy for myself!). A must read for fans of whimsy, fantasy, mischief, witches and fairytales.

This is the exact book I would have adored as a kid! Witches and mischief, what more could you want?
The friendship between Maggie and Ivy is lovely to read and the way the themes of love and hope are explored is brilliant.
Overall a great, engaging read perfect for those who love spooky season

Thanks to @netgalley I was able to read an advanced copy of The Double Trouble Society in exchange for an honest review.

As a massive fan of Carries books I was glad this did not disappoint as it’s her first children’s book I have read. I found it to grip my attention and make me want to keep on reading, at times I did not want to put it down!

Maggie and Ivy are the sorted of children who I would have wanted to be friends with as they are more like sisters then best friends.

I will be buying a copy when it is realised on 07/07/2022 and I’m sure it’ll be well read for me around Halloween!
