Entertaining, funny and full of imagination.
Ivy and Maggie are two inseparable friends. They were born on the same day, under the same full moon, and they lived only one house apart. And it's the house in the middle that becomes the start of their adventure. Everything starts when a strange-looking woman enters the abandoned house and, with only a gesture of her hand, fixes its appearance in only a matter of seconds. This fact, together with her appearance (long hair and purple eyes) and the perfect timing of her appearance, just few days before the festival in remembrance of the town's witch, leave no doubt in Ivy and Maggie's minds. The new comer must be a witch. This is a mystery for the duo, perfect for the Double Trouble society.
The book is well-paced, a fantastic adventure perfect for lovers of magic, spooky mysteries and Halloween.

I loved this instantly, the writing style was spot on for me. As it says in the blurb, this is about two best friends born on Friday 13th, a witches curse, and a haunted house….

I was very much looking forward to reading this, and it didn’t disappoint- it gave me all those feelings that I used to get when I was a child reading books, which for me always means a firm 5 star.

My thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House Children’s UK. for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review

Ivy and Maggie, have to defend their village from a cursed witch with the help of some other children and, of course, singing!

A charming tale which already feels like a classic.

I loved the small illustrations at the top of each chapter, and the cover is stunning, the blues and purples certainly match, and they reflect the story well! The story went at a good pace, and there was something always going on. I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves magic, witches, black cats, and cauldrons! The perfect Halloween season read!

We loved this book. All of the children (aged 4 - 15) engaged with the characters, story and action. We were really immersed into the world and carried along until the heartwarming ending. It is an exciting story of the power of love and redemption. The illustrations added much, especially for the younger members of the family. It currently is one of our top ten books of the year.

what a fun little book this is! I had a great time reading it!
Ivy and maggie have great, fun but different personalities, each complementing one another beautifully. I love that their dad's were best friends and decided just to adopt to girls and live next to each other. It's just such a lovely idea.
The story itself is a bit mysterious and very exciting. It kept me reading and i struggled to put it down. There's a few nice little twists going on as well, so i dont want to get into the story too much, as it would spoil one which comes quite early on.
But this is a great story about love for your parents & how you can over come so much with love and wonderful memories.
highly recommended!

Plot: Maggie and Ivy are the best of friends, called the Double Trouble Society. They were born on the same minute on friday 13th. They live in a boring little town called Crowood peak where nothing happens. That is until children start disappearing and the derelict house next door where no one has ever lived has been brought back to life overnight. When they meet their new neighbour, Amy they shart to believe that something very odd is going on and decide to find out what it is.

Review: This is a children's novel aimed for 9-12 year olds. I did wonder if i would enjoy this as it was primarily aimed at a younger audience but i really enjoyed it. I was very fast paced but the story was very easy to follow. It had a lovely mix of different characters and I loved the diversity of them. I would highly recommend it, even if you are a little older than 12 like me. 👍

A very imaginative, well written story about two very good and very close friends, Ivy and Maggie who liver either side of the dilapidated Hokum House in Crowood Peak. Ramshackle the mean black cat lives at Hokum House. Ivy and Maggie are called the Double Trouble Society and like adventure.
There is a legend that the Crowood Witch has taken 12 children and will come back to take a 13th 300years later.
Then one evening as Ivy and Maggie say goodnight over their Walkie-Talkies they see lady with pointy shoes and wearing a cape restore Hokum House with a flick of a finger.
Can Maggie and Ivy save the village?
A really enjoyable read with a quiz at the end.

Thanks to the publisher Penguin Random House Children's for sending me an early copy, in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this middle grade book, it would be great to sit and read with a child over the Halloween season for sure. The two main characters are a lot of fun, and love going off on adventures together. The author paints a wonderful picture of all the magical elements in this book, it really does feel magical and spooky. A great read for children.

A great book for children aimed 8-14. I initially started reading this with my 6 year old, but she found the start a little scary, s I carried on with it alone.

The story follows Ivy and Maggie (the double trouble society) who must rescue their town and the children that live in it when a mysterious stranger moves into the abandoned house next door to them. The grown ups seem to be under some sort of spell so they must do this alone.

A really enjoyable read, just enough suspense and brilliant characters.

Imaginative, adventurous Maggie and sensible, scientific Ivy, unrelated but born on the same day, are the best of friends, the Double Trouble of the title. They live in the sleepy little town of Crowood Peak, where legend has it that a local witch, cursed 300 years ago, will return to claim a 13th heart of a child so that she can live for ever and where a prophecy states that she can be defeated by two sisters. No-one really believes the story, but there is a festival each Blue Moon to remember the 12 victims, each represented by a standing stone. The witch is said to have inhabited the now ruined house between those of Maggie and Ivy, where now only an extremely bad tempered cat lives. The Blue Moon is fast approaching and the girls are stunned one day to see a woman in a coat with a point hood renovate the house and move in - as if by magic. Even more strangely, their fathers seem to have completely forgotten that the house was a ruin only the previous day...
Fast paced, witty and full of magical action, this novel is an entertaining tale of the power of friendship, families and resourceful children. The menace of the Crowood Witch is offset by gentle humour, and I think it will have considerable appeal to the readers in our school library.

Ivy and Maggie have been best friends ever since they were born at exactly the same minute twelve years earlier and they’re always on the look out for a new adventure but unfortunately crowood peak is officially the most boring town in the world or at least it was until children start to mysteriously disappear and even stranger none of the grown ups seem to have noticed so it’s up to the double trouble society to work out what’s going on all the evidence points to the old mansion next door with strange green lights in the window and a new owner looks suspiciously like a witch
Well another gripping book from Carrie fletcher a truly enjoyable read that children will be glued to from start to finish totally recommend

Imagine living next door to a spooky looking abandoned house. Imagine that there is this old legend dating back 300 years where a witch lived in that old house and took children. Imagine that your whole village remembers this event every blue moon and you and your best friend both love the old stories about the mysterious house.
But then, one day everything changes and the house seems different and the grown ups have altered memories about that house.
Well this is that story. A story of two friends who have to accept change and use the power of friendship and love and magic to defeat a powerful witch. To overcome all.
This was just the kind of story that I needed to read. It reminds the reader that some things are more important and more powerful AND that there is good and bad in everyone, but it is the choices you make that shape you. Read this.
