I'll start with saying this book was not what I expected. I really wanted to enjoy it - and did enjoy parts - but overall just left with a meh feeling. The characters are all too "good" and some of the relationships and parts of the plot lines were just unbelievable.

2 1/2 stars rounded up.

This book was horrid from start to finish. I got through it with strength of will alone. Not only was the plot weak, the characters sucked, and the romance was no existent. There is nothing redeemable about this novel.

With a great city setting, friendships and a will they won’t they romance I throughly enjoyed this book.

I read it quickly as I was totally engrossed in the story and wanted to know what was going to happen. What with Jamie and his elusive ways, Connor and his new revealed secret and Steph finding happiness.

After getting some awful news on Hogmanay I felt for Steph and was fully invested in her and Jamie that first night. I loved their chemistry but having not swapped numbers this made for an interesting and hilarious read.

Anna and Connor made me laugh how they were with Steph. I thought they were brilliant telling her straight. I think I would have been with Anna and the idea of a milk carton campaign to find a man you met one night was a bonkers idea but it provided many laughs!

After going to Edinburgh for the first time last December I loved it very much and was so glad to be taken back to this wonderful city. The castle all lit up in the evening and the Christmas markets with the festive lights. All so magical, which the author captured this exactly as I remembered it. Also the mention of mulled wine, crepes, churros and hot chocolate left my mouth watering. I need a visit back to this city soon and have been looking back at photos of my trip making me want to go even more too.

While the book broaches deeper topics, they only reach surface level. I liked it, but I didn't fully connect with the main character. I found it unbelievable that she'd get over her initial break-up that quickly, despite the circumstances, or that she'd fall that hard for Jamie and be so heartbroken over him after very little time together. Still a cute read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

DNF at 45%. Everyone in this book has the personality of a jar of mayonnaise. Bland, boring, and annoyingly squeaky clean. I don’t necessarily need a play by play, but this was beyond fade-to-black, to the point I didn’t even realize they had sex until it was mentioned the next day. Just no. Life is too short and there are too many books to waste time on a book full of nothing.

i was looking forward to this book, but had a hard time connecting with the characters.

It might have been a case of wrong time, wrong book for me. So, if you are looking for a cosy romance that includes a few serious topics, go for this.

I must admit that I really enjoyed this will-they-won’t-they rom-com of a romance and really enjoyed the authors style of writing. This was actually the first book that I have read from this author but I will definitely be coming back for more!!
One Night In Edinburgh was a very easy to read book and I found myself turning the pages really quickly, just so that I could find out what happened next!
This was a very intriguing story and I thought that Jamie was a wonderful character too.

I loved the setting of this book so much. It gave such good descriptions that it made you feel like you were there. The story was a little slow at times but overall very sweet!

Steph and Conner have been together since High School and after ten years of their relationship, her boyfriend dumps her on New Year's Eve. However, Steph decides to go with her friend Anna to the street party to celebrate and try to forget what happened. There she meets the mysterious Jamie a charming young man to who she finds herself attracted and decides to go with the flow and maybe get a one-night stand to mark a new beginning. Everything goes well and after an amazing night , he leaves her apartment in a hurry forgetting to exchange numbers. Steph knew that Jamie was different and she felt with him things she hasn't felt before with Connor and so she wait for him to come back but time passes and passes with no sight of him but our lovely Steph refuses to give up trying every way to find him.
Our story starts from here, we say the different ways Steph try to find Jamie and the humorous events she encounters. Then, when fate brings them back together things don't go how Steph has planned. 

With a surprising ending and a love that will fill your heart from the start, this is a story of compassion, trust, and never judge a book by its cover.

The book has been an emotional read although it has other qualities too. It is thought-provoking but a warm and romantic read too.

This book was an absolute delight to read. It was a light, funny, rom-com between Jamie and Steph after a chance encounter in Edinburgh during Hogmanay. After their one-night stand, they are able to reconnect through extraordinary effort on Steph's part and are able to build their relationship.

However, this doesn't come without its own complications as Stepj is constantly gaslighted by her family who only focus on wealth and social status in life when it comes to Steph's romantic partners. Nina writes Steph's character as completely loveable but sometimes overall stalkerish when it comes to tracking down Jamie in pursuit of a genuine connection she has had. Jamie is also written as a confident guy who cares deeply for Steph.

When we find out Jamie's secret, I was shocked, especially to his reaction to Steph and how cold he was to her. I was very happy to see they were able to work it out and get back on track to further develop their relationship

I also loved the platonic relationship between Steph and Connor as previous partners, they know each other so well and are able to support each other in their new relationships, especially as Connor is gay and is pursuing these new relationships

Nina Kaye is a new author to me but I had a feeling that I was going to enjoy this book.

The book opens with Steph and Connor. They are at the end of their schooling. Steph is going on to further education but Connor isn't. Fast forward several years and they are still together. It is New Year's Eve and they have plans. Except that Connor is about to throw a spanner in the works and break up with Steph. But it makes sense why he does it. Perhaps his timing could have been better.

However Steph has a rather memorable evening and meets Jamie. But is he too good to be true. He does disappear but she finds him again. As they start a relationship Steph's friend Anna starts to become suspicious. Why can't he share more about his background. Why do they never stay at his place? All will be revealed in due course.

I requested the arc because it is set in Edinburgh which is the capital city of my home so was really excited. The setting was okay, Hogmanay is a big deal in Scotland and I felt it was under represented at the beginning of the book. The writing was not my style and kind of dull. The characters were very 2D and not well flushed out making it hard to relate and feel interested in knowing what happens next to them.

The dialogue was just unrealistic and didn't feel like how people would talk or argue. Like I didn't understand how it went from a break up to them immediately being friends within the space of a chapter and in the same chapter of her being friends with her ex she also wants to get back with him but is routing for his relationship with the other guy. Also the chemistry between Steph and Jamie felt flat and didn't feel like they had a connection.

The first chapter felt unnecessary as it is about two characters who the book is not about. If the first chapter was about Steph and Jamie it would make sense but its not its about Steph and her ex when they were young. So didn't feel like it flowed properly with the story.

Also the fact that Steph believes instantly that her ex is gay instead of bi was so weird to read and left an unsettling feeling because she keeps harping on her "gay" ex because he leaves her for a man but that doesn't necessary mean that it is his identity and it was just weird.

This book might be for a different audience but personally the plot, writing and characters were subpar and not engaging.

Steph's world has crashed down when her longtime beau announces that he's breaking up with her on Hogmanay (NYE). She's heartbroken and decides to go out with her best friend Anna. She ends up meeting a nice guy named Jamie and they hit it off. But they don't exchange numbers. Steph is sad and determined to find him. She gets creative by adding labels to his favorite beer can. Will she find him?

This was such a heartfelt romance. I really enjoyed the characters and the social issues presented in the book. As an American I had fun reading the slang from Scotland. I can't wait to read more of the author's books.

After a shocking breakup with her longterm boyfriend, Steph goes to the Hogmanay (Scottish New Year’s Eve) celebration looking for a distraction. When she meets Jamie at the festival, she knows they’re meant to be, but after their perfect night together, he disappears without leaving any contact information. Steph won’t be deterred, and after some creative searching methods, she finally tracks him down only to find that he may not be who she thinks he is. When Steph finally learns the secret reason for Jamie’s evasiveness, she has to decide if her belief that they were meant to be was true after all.

This was a quick and cute read with lovely descriptions of Edinburgh. I appreciated the inclusion of topics bigger than the romance like Steph’s challenging relationship with her family and her dedication to social issues. I enjoyed the reveal at the end and the lesson we’re supposed to take away as readers. But ultimately the story fell short for me. Steph’s immediate platonic-best-friendship with Connor after the demise of their decade-long relationship was wildly unbelievable and prevented me from taking her rapid infatuation with Jamie seriously. Their relationship felt shallow and the dialogue was stilted, and I couldn’t tell if this was written for a young adult audience or an adult audience. Much of the content felt better suited for characters much younger than these were.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy lighthearted romantic comedies and don’t mind suspending a bit of disbelief for the sake of a fun and heartwarming story.

A very enjoyable read, that has a great twist in the storyline. Steph is dumped on New Year’s Eve, her friend Anna is determined to make sure Steph will leave her heartbreak behind and join the festivities. She meets Jamie at the street party and sparks fly, maybe her ex boyfriend was right and there wasn’t anything between them anymore.
It starts off funny, typical RomCom, but the authors does dig in deeper and has you guessing what the character of Jamie is really like after he disappears. Totally did not expect who the true Jamie was, very well written. The story does touch on important issues that effect every city and was nice that it was included in the story. This was a cute story of Steph who has to navigate a break-up, new love, tragic family and redesigned relationships …all at the start of the New Year.

It is definitely a different dating scene out there after ending her ten year relationship for Steph. Enter Jamie whom she meets on her first night of being single. Steph and Jamie definitely go through their share of good times and heartbreak. I am so glad she had her friends there to help and watch out for her when things get skeptical with Jamie. Then the twist! You’ll definitely want to go on this journey with them!

***I did get very Michelle (the clingy friend from how to lose a guy in ten days) vibes from Steph. She definitely borders the line of stage five clinger. I really did enjoy her story!
