A much better read from Lucy Diamond. I enjoyed this one much more than her last one which I found slightly depressing. This one is back to her usual style. Thank goodness for that. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Lucy Diamond has been my go to author for a light-hearted read for many years. I was looking forward to reading her latest novel but something seemed to be different. The characters were great, you could see the problems and solutions from all viewpoints. The locations were great too, beautiful Yorkshire coast and scenic Cambridge centre/.
Finally I decided it was the flashbacks and the slow pace which I had not encountered before in Lucy's writing.. This is still a good read, but for me not as memorable as some of her other books.

Another great book by Lucy Diamond where we meet Lara, a single mum to Eliza. Eliza at 18 years of age goes looking for her biological father and it’s not the man she thought it was. I really liked the main characters especially Eliza, Ben is married with no children but always wanted to be a dad and Lara gave up her ambitions to raise her daughter.

This is a story of misunderstandings that created missed opportunities and how one teenage girl can change the future not just for herself. We get to experience Scarborough, Cambridge, Edinburgh and New York along the journey and as well as watching Eliza find who she really is we watch Lara blossom into the person she was always meant to be. A great read and one fully worthy of five stars

Thank you so much to the author @lucydiamondwrites the publisher @quercusbooks and @netgalley for the advance copy of this book, all thoughts are my own.

In this book we meet Eliza, she is an 18 year old girl who is about to finish her school life and trying to find out exactly who she is and where she fits in, in her life.

We also meet Lara her mum, these two have a very close relationship and adore one another. Lara is a strong lady who has been through some hard times in her life but spent the last 20 years being the best mum that she could be.

I really enjoyed the storyline to this book, for the first couple of chapters I really though Eliza was a bit of a brat, it really was just her circumstances though and I loved seeing her grow as a person and mature into a lovely strong independent young woman.

I can’t go too deep as I don’t want to give anything away, what I can say is that it’s a lovely sweet second chance romance filled with a few twists and turns. It is a nice quick easy read, perfect for the beach.

Recommended to everyone.

BOOK REVIEW

anything could happen by @lucydiamondwrites

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you netgalley and quercus books for my free electronic copy! (This photo was taken in waterstones, as I noticed it there).

Synopsis:
Lara and Ben meet in New York, and they quickly realise this could develop into something. However, Ben leaves New York unexpectedly. 19 years later, Lara has a daughter called Eliza. Eliza then finds out that who she thought was her father (Steve) is not her father, but it is Ben. Eliza then starts her mission to find Ben.

My thoughts:
This was a really easy read, which I finished in a few days. It is a second chance romance book, which is hit and miss with me, but this was a hit. It felt like a real story, as like everyone in real life there were a lot of 'what ifs', and of course in real life things in life happen, and the book did not shy away from that. Literally, anything could happen to any of the characters! There was a lot of depth to the characters and the plot, which I really liked.

However, I felt that when Eliza was looking for Ben, that could have been slightly shorter. The chapters were a little long, but that was fine because there were gaps where I could put it down. There were times in the book where I could not stand Eliza, especially at the start of the book with her behaviour. This book also shows the importance of being honest with people from the start to prevent heartache down the line.

It was an engaging read. The book was very well written, and I will be looking to read more by Lucy Diamond in the future!

Anything could happen is out now in hardback, and paperback comes out in July!

This was a wonderful book about missed chances. Lara was left alone and pregnant and Ben wasn't aware he had become a father. This was a wonderful read about a twist of fate and missed chances years ago that left Lara pregnant and alone and Ben unaware we was a father. When Eliza starts looking at genetics as part of her A levels it gets her wondering about her absent father, when she finds her and confronts him she’s stunned to find out that the man who raised her until she was three was not her biological father and it sets her off on a mission to find him. The events that follow turn both Lara and Ben upside down, Lara starts thinking about the hopes and aspirations of her younger self and Ben is left fighting to save his marriage.

I am a huge Lucy Diamond fan and her latest offering didn’t disappoint. Anything Could Happen is a completely gorgeous, modern love story, with a well paced plot and three characters that I rooted for all the way. If you love a cosy, unique read read that leaves you feeling uplifted and your heart full I am confident you’ll love this one as much as I did.

Lovely mother/daughter story

For Lara and her daughter Eliza, it has always been just the two of them. But when Eliza turns eighteen and wants to connect with her father, Lara is forced to admit a secret that she has been keeping from her daughter her whole life.

Eliza needs answers - and so does Lara. Their journey to the truth will take them on a road trip across England and eventually to New York, where it all began. Dreams might have been broken and opportunities missed, but there are still surprises in store...

I wouldn't describe this as a romance, more a cosy read.

When 18 year old Eliza discovers that her father is not her mother's ex-husband she's determined to find her birth father. With some detective work Eliza tracks down Ben and persuades her mother Lara to drive them both to Cambridge where Eliza plans to confront him and introduce herself. Ben is astonished to learn that he's a father.

Nineteen years ago Ben and Lara met in New York and had a whirlwind romance, spending one night together. They planned to meet the following evening, but fate stepped in and prevented them meeting again.

While Ben is trying to get used to being a father, his wife is furious. Lara isn't happy either, believing Ben stood her up for their second date.

A little slow to start, then became almost addictive reading.

Thank you Quercus Books and NetGalley for the ARC, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.

Anything Could Happen is a well written tale of what can happen when one missed opportunity catches up with you years later. I really liked all the characters in this book, particularly how there was no ‘bad guy’ - just situations which had consequences for everyone involved. Learning about Ben and Lara’s earlier meeting also gives good background to how they came to be in their current position. Even better, the book has a very satisfying ending, which you don’t see coming with all the twists and turns along the way.
I am a fan of Lucy Diamond anyway but I think this is up there as one of her best books and I look forward to rereading it again.

Anything Could Happen is the story of Lara and Ben: two people who met one night in New York and the the paths they each took after that night until they are reunited over 18 years later.

This book is written in true Lucy Diamond style: warm, cosy and while it may be predictable in parts it’s a lovely story to get lost in. Perfect summer reading.

A really light and easy read. I enjoyed the setting of New York and found it nice that the story did a 360 and ended up back where it began. I found the last 100 pages too long with not much happening!

The first time I've come across Lucy Diamond and I will definitely be looking out for her other books going forward.
Anything Could Happen was a great read! I loved the 3 main characters and was invested in them all. The story was well paced with many twists along the journey. It's easy chick lit summer reading and I would definitely recommend this one.

An enjoyable read from Lucy about a fleeting affair which could have been much more. A story of missed opportunities and love lost and then re-found. Recommend!
