In the final book of this excellent jam packed trilogy, we have crossed an ocean to New York. Vita and her baby Bertie have followed Nancy to America. Still always in Nancy’s shadow but living a very different life it seems that 1929 will be the year for them.

That is until the Wall Street Crash, action then moves to Los Angeles where Nancy is convinced she will be come a Hollywood starlet, and yet Vita is always in the background. However she is still noticed and her seamstress abilities are soon seen to be the best and she gets to work with beautiful gowns for beautiful people in a beautiful place.

However, Vita’s past is never far away and it seems that her brother Clement and his evil wife Edith are always just behind her. Clement’s adventures take him to America and mixing with the wrong sort of people but with one aim in mind, to deal the final blow to his sister.

Vita then finds herself face to face with another person from her past, another man she has been trying to forget but just can’t. The time is up for Vita and she must return home and face the shadow of Anna Darton but is home ready for this?

This series of books have been a joy to read and if you can indulge in all three in one go, you will be taken across continents, cities, eras and moments in time and have a real depth of feeling for the characters. Even if that depth of feeling is not a nice one!

For fans of historical fiction, the concept of Bright Young Things that has dominated 1920s history as well as the pressures of families, individuality and money. It has it all and is woven so tightly you are swept along with the story.

This is the third in a trilogy A Stitch in Time and is a worthy last instalment. Exciting, captivating, suspenseful, it has it all. Great ending and leaves everything very neat and tidy. Historical fiction at its best capturing the lows of New York after the stock market crash to the heady golden years in Hollywood. Highly recommended read either a stand alone or part of the series.

Thank you Netgalley

This is the last in a trilogy set in the 1920's following the adventures of Vita and her best friend Nancy from a #RunawayDaughter to #HiddenWife and finally a Returning Sister. Although I'd read the first in this series I haven't read the second but it didn't matter as it was easy to fill in the gaps and would also work just as well as a standalone. And whilst I loved catching up with the vibrant yet troubled characters, it's the insight into a fascinating period of time (the glamour, fashions, energy and parties) that truly captivated me. This is a great book and a great series by a great storyteller who can do it all from epic historical trilogies such as this to contemporary romcoms and even children's books.

Gorgeous historical book

It’s 1929 and after running away from her family in Lancashire, becoming a dancer in London and having a riotous time in Paris with her best friend Nancy, would-be fashion designer Vita Casey is now living a much more sedate life in New York with her baby son, Bertie, far away from her evil brother, Clement, and her nemesis, Edith.

When the disastrous events of the Wall Street Crash change their destinies, Vita and Nancy flee to Los Angeles, where Nancy is determined to make it in the talkies. Schmoozing their way into the ranks of the Hollywood elite, Vita is starting to think that she can begin to fulfil her fashion ambitions. But when the love of her life, Archie, is hired as a writer on Nancy’s new movie and Clement exacts his ultimate revenge, Vita’s past and present collide.

She has no choice but to tell the truth and try to reclaim what is rightfully hers before it’s too late.

Nancy and Vita are in New York with her son Bertie. She left her husband Irvine after he found out about Bertie. When Wall Street crashes Nancy and Vita head to LA Nancy wants to be an actress and is soon spotted and given a role in the film ‘The sister returns’ Vita wants to make her own way in New York as a fashion designer but difficult as she has Bertie. Until her luck she meets David Myers. Things seem to get better.
Whilst at home in Darton Clement is still up to his old tricks and still looking for Vita so when they find out that Vita is in America, he is on the first ship out there to get his revenge.
Whilst Edith finds out that Darton Mill is in debt and if she doesn’t do something and stop Clement from selling it, they will have nothing, so she sends someone to find Vita and get her shares from her.
The sister returns are the third book in the ‘A Stitch in time’ series and another fabulous book from the author. I really enjoyed this and can’t wait for the next book.

The Sister Returns by Joanna Rees is the third novel in A Stitch in Time – a sweeping historical trilogy. The characters are so amazing… This story kept me glued all the way through…

I didn’t realise this was the third in the series. Unfortunately I couldn’t understand what was happening as I haven’t read the first two so I didn’t finish this one. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
