A fairytale (a cinderella retelling) but make it more realistic and voilà we have this book. This book was a light hearted, easy, fun, read, and thoroughly enjoyable!

Thanks for the copy to read & review!

Es una novela llena de sorpresas. Vas a encontrar los cuentos tradiciones de hadas reversionados. Pueden gustarte como no pero te aseguro que vas a disfrutarlo

Modern day Cinderella with a few twists. Of course, there is the evil stepmother and stepsisters! Also some fun inner workings of the fairies who help things along. Enough similarity to keep it fun, and tweaks to keep things interesting.

i love a good retelling especially when theres magic involved. typically the school setting isn't my thing but this was a pretty solid read and i'll probably look out for this others in this series as well!

A somewhat twisted story of Cinderella... It was certainly an interesting book to read... A pop star and a outcast girl who works in a funeral home...

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this book.

This was actually a pretty cute little read! At first I was a little hesitant- it seemed like it was going to just be an annoyingly dramatic teenage romance- but it ended up being enjoyable and I will probably look at reading more in the series!

This wouldn’t be a normal read for me, but I fancied something a bit different. So with that in mind, I understand that perhaps I am not the target audience for this book.
For a light easy read, it was enjoyable, but I did find myself forcing to read at some points (again probably due to this not being my go to genre). The writing/dialogue felt quite awkward at times, and there were definitely some problematic descriptions of characters.
Overall it wouldn’t be a book I’d return to or necessarily recommend unless you’re into a very young adult take on retellings.

Everyone loves Cinderella and her wonderful story. Ashley and Harry's version of that story is a wild adventure of star-crossed lovers. Everyone loves fairy tales but this is a modern, more action and drama filled love story. A must read for more of a fulfilling fairy tale.

The story starts with our main character, Ashley, our very sad Cinderella, who's life just hasn't been fair. She is just waiting out her sentence with her wicked step-family. Enter Harry, our musical Prince, who is being pulled all over all the place by everyone wants something from him. Their love blooms hot and fast, but EVERYONE is trying to get them apart. Will it succeed? It is most definitely worth finding out!

MK Harkins' story-weaving is perfection. Can I give it 10 stars?

Sometimes in life you just need a nice book that gives you all the feels. This is exactly what I found in this story. A retelling of Cinderella that was anything but boring. Can’t wait to read the rest in the series.

First of all, thank you M.K. Harkins and Victory editing co-op for kindly gifting me this book via Netgalley!

This book features such a pure and innocent love story, that was like reading a more realistic fairytale book. I loved the fact that by reading this, I was transported back to when I was 6 or 7 sat reading Cinderella, it was wonderful!

If you want too read a book that is easy to read, enjoyable and well written, I highly recommend this one!

This is a quick and easy retelling of Cinderella, where the Prince is recast as a famous bad boy slumming it at an ordinary school. There is nothing particularly surprising or innovative, but it was interesting enough. Not bad if you just want something light and predictable!

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

So I adore a Fairy Tale retelling and this didn’t let me down at all. The characters were well constructed and I loved the twists used in this version and I enjoyed the fact there was more than one villain, I’m looking forward to the next book in this series very much

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

High school student and mortuary worker, Ashley, has been through a lot in her short life. She doesn’t believe in love or anything positive happening to her. She has a hard time letting people in but when she does she gives them her heart. Enter bad boy heartthrob, Henry, and he brings out a side of her she didn’t want to exist. Unfortunately boys and high school drama is the least of her worries, she has an evil step mother and step sisters out to make her life miserable..

This was a cute twist on Cinderella. Really LOVED the ending!

When I first saw the cover of this book I was excited- I mean who wouldn’t be, the cover is gorgeous! And there is a playlist written at the start of the book? Yes!
However a few chapters in I quickly changed my mind thinking I was most definitely not the target audience for this book. The language used and the dialogue between characters seemed perfect for a younger audience and not myself.
Pushing through I actually found myself enjoyed this book more as the pages flew by. I fell in love with the characters- especially Lauren + the fairies- and their relationships were so sweet.
The only thing I’d say was sometimes (especially at the start) the dialogue was a little cringey and seemed like what someone older would say while trying to relate to a teenager, and some of the characters were more on the unrealistic side *cough* im looking at you principal *cough*
Other than that, I really enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thanks to Netgalley, M.K Harkins, and Victory Editing for the advanced copy.

This was honestly so sweet and such a classic Cinderella retelling, I also loved that the author pulled from a few other fairytales in the end as well. Such a refreshing read!

I absolutely love all kinds of re-tellings. This one has to be one of my favorites! The author put such a fun spin on the classic story. The MC working at a funeral home and that's why she gets her nickname was genius. I like how the guy worked through his issues and evolved throughout the story too. It always is a plus for me when it's not just the MC that grows, but the other people in the story as well. as per usual for this premise, her step-mom and step-sisters are co-co for coco puffs, but this evil step-mom takes some cake! I hope Karma gives that woman everything back and then some! I will be 1ooooooooooo% reading the next book. I'm excited to see what else this author cooks up!

If you love a fairytale re-telling, you will probably enjoy this book. A Cinderella retelling, with Ashley & Harry as the MC’s, not 1 but 2 fairy godmothers & high school setting. I really enjoyed the modern setting, which I don’t always & the romance progressed in a natural way.

The writing style felt a little young to me & some of the plot twists were very out there! However overall, this was a quick fun read for summer.

Thank you to victory Editing Co-Op, MK Harkins & Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC.

“Ashes” is a fun, exciting, lighthearted read that kept my interest from beginning to end. It’s a 4.5 for me, but I rounded up rather than down.

Ashley is definitely not living the deluxe life as the stepdaughter of the truly horrid Veronica. She’s got two vapid stepsisters to boot—there are so many mean girls in this story!

Fortunately, even though she has an interestingly weird job after school, Ashley has a terrific bestie, and Harry, her pop star love interest, is genuinely lovable. The positive supporting characters are as well-drawn as the villains. You don’t often see that.

And of course, this is a fairy godmother situation.

I loved how both Ashley and Harry had points of view chapters. Both of them were relatable, even though this is a supernatural fairy-tale-inspired book. They worry about prom and getting in trouble with adults, and feel shy and experience big feelings. Harry may be famous, but he’s a real person.

I don’t want to tell too much, as this story could easily be ruined by spoilers. I’ll just say that even though the story is mostly light, the villain is just awful, which definitely makes the book more fun!

The book is set up for a sequel, and I’ll happily read it. I publish new fairy tales, and there’s a lot of YA in them, so I enjoyed reading it. I also have a lot to compare this book to, and it holds up well against the competition.

“Ashes” felt like a young teen’s book, but older teens and up will find it to be fun as well.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of the ebook to read.
