This was such a cool book to read and I loved every minute of it. The characters were wonderful and I couldn't believe how quickly I finished it!

It was the first book I read by this author and I appreciated the world building, the characters, and the entertaining plot.

This was the second book I read by this author and the second in the series and I love it. I love the characters and the setting. The characters feel real. I’ve already recommended this to my book friends! I can’t wait for the third! Charlotte was a delight to read.

This is the second in Lily Riley's Dames Dangereuses series, paranormal romances set in France during the reign of Louis XV. In this version of world history, class inequality in France has contributed to the vampire plague - peasants have been infecting themselves because it's easier to nourish themselves on blood than on bread.⁠

In this installment, our main character Charlotte has been tasked with assassinating the Marquis de Sade. Extenuating circumstances ensue, the marquis is killed by another man, and Charlotte is kidnapped by said killer. This dude is big, burly, and protective - might one say an "alpha"? - so we immediately thought he was a werewolf*. There's a twist, though, which will teach us to make assumptions about romance heroes in the future!⁠

The series is worth picking up if you like historical romances combined with PNR. The romance is sexy and just a little silly (as the best paranormal romances are), and when combined with the setting and world building make for an enjoyable read.⁠

Charlotte is a countess in the court of King Louis XV and one of only two women in the secret <i>Les Dames Dangereuses</i> subsect of the Order, charged with safeguarding their King and country. While on an assignment to eliminate the Marquis de Sade, she is accidentally kidnapped by fellow rogue, Antoine, a Lieutenant in the King’s army.

What follows is an unfolding of, as her cousin Daphne so aptly puts it, Charlotte’s “knack for finding trouble”. Charlotte copes with witty prevarication and sultry smiles while Antoine copes with brooding, chivalry, and more brooding. I found this to be loads of fun, clever, and a fresh departure from what I expected of both paranormal and historical romance. I would read the other books in this series.

I love this series and this was no exception. Well written with a compelling storyline and well developed characters both human and supernatural. I couldn't put it down.

Another enjoyable book in the Les Dames Dangereuses series. The addition of more supernatural creatures was fun and I loved seeing Van Helsing again. The relationship between the two MCs kind of irked me to an extent. Like, just talk? Wow, would that be so hard? But I know it's a whole thing and that's how books work. I'm just maybe not in the best brainspace for that trope right now. Regardless, I highly recommend both this book and the series in general.

This is the first book I have read from this author, and it will not be the last. I am pleased to hear there is a third instalment due. as now I have become aware of Lily Riley, I want to read more. Luckily I also have access to the first book in the series. The erotic love story of Charlotte and Antoine is told, with many supernatural elements. I loved the novel. I would recommend the book highly.
