The premise for this story is so intriguing. Woman takes her son to school and is confronted by a woman claiming her son is the other woman’s. That they were switched at birth. Poor Billy is then taken on a dramatic ride to figure out what actually happened that day. My biggest complaint was there seemed to be too many secondary characters and I couldn’t quite keep track of them all. It was a quick read though and kept you guessing. #netgalley #notmychild

I was interested to read this from the promotion but was disappointed. As a health professional I found it to far fetched, also there were too many subplots. Affairs, less, missing child, broken friendships ...... I lost interest before the end, but did finish.

The premise of the story is intriguing, but the execution didn't really live up to my expectations. I found the story to be pretty outlandish and wasn't really able to suspend my disbelief and just go with it. I was a little confused at times and didn't find the characters to be likeable or relatable.

There is a lot going on in this book, with some secrets from the past coming to light, and also the shocking accusations that come from Eve.
I liked Ruth as a character but had no idea who else to trust in this twisty tale.
After a slow pace at the beginning the tension then begins to really ramp up, and the ending is both shocking and dramatic.
A well plotted and gripping read, recommended.

Reading Between the Wines book review #67/135 for 2022:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: Not My Child
Author: Samantha King
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: This book is one of those that you think you know what happened but you don’t have any idea. I could not figure out what was going on due to the reveals and twists and turns. It was a pretty slow burn but kept my attention. The ending was pretty bittersweet.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @HQ copy of @NotMyChild.

Unfortunately for me I was tempted by initial 5 star reviews and it sounded good but the book failed to keep my attention and sadly I was unable to finish it but thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity.

Wow, what a lot to unpack! you felt as confused as the main character. This was a great gripping read though - as a lover of this genre its easy to find the same storylines, but each has its own unique mystery. A really good read this Summer.

It seemed the author tried to use a confusion of storylines and characters to help show the confusion and angst in the main character’s head. Unfortunately it just left my head scrambled.

This book was an interesting read, Though at times it felt like there were too many twists in the stories.
I was really invested in the safety of Billy and at times there were parts where I couldn’t tell which way it was going to go! This was an enjoyable, quick read perfect for a bit of poolside reading to keep you hooked to the sun lounger! ☀️

It’s funny how when we lie, we don’t only lie to the people around us but to ourselves too; thinking that the lies we are telling will never be caught and that we’ll be safe.
This is a story about family and lies; twists and secrets. Ruth has a secret she has been hiding for years, now her life is threatened with it… how she will survive all the pressure and how many lies she will have to create to keep her family safe.
Just reading the title we “know” that Ruth’s son, Billy, is not hers, but who is really the mother? How is it possible that she has kept this secret for so long? Also, we know that at least there is one woman, Eve, who thinks that Billy is her son… and another one that Ruth is scared of what she might know. As you can see, there are so many questions just at the beginning of the book that it’s quite impossible to stop reading it.
This is a compelling story, the need to know all the truth and how these women are connected; who is telling the truth and who is lying? Questions, questions… we need answers!
This has been a quick read, easy to enter the mystery and discover all the answers; with a lot of characters to follow and mystery links to discover, it’s quite an interesting read!
Are you ready to discover all the truth about “Not My Child”?

There was… a lot going on in this book. A lot to unpack. Between a failed friendship, an affair, a woman that pops up and claims your baby is hers. It was kinda too much. But-once you figured out the characters and fell into the story line it wasn’t bad. Like a 2.5-maybe closer to 3 out of 5.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my opinion.

Not My Child will keep you reading long into the night. I was immediately hooked. A fast paced, effortlessly quick read where the pages just turned themselves and I was engaged throughout, mission accomplished.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I found it an interesting start, it had me hooked and I wanted to read more immediately. There were times where I felt the characters were unbelievable and unrelatable and some of the twists were a little predictable, but it did manage to keep me interested as I devoured the story to reach the conclusion
Centred around Ruth and her son Daniel on his 1st day of school. Ruth is confronted by a young mum claiming Daniel is her son. We then flit between the past and the present as Ruth tries to understand just what is going on

This story does have some trigger points, pregnancy loss etc but it is handled well

Thanks to Netgalley for and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title

Thanks to Net Galley and HQ for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
All Ruth and her husband Daniel have ever wanted is a child, after years of trying and IVF treatment thy finally have their precious boy, Billy.
Billy is starting school when a young woman turns up in the playground with a bizarre story that Billy is her son, that her baby and Ruth’s were switched at birth in the intensive care unit.
Ruth is terrier of loosing Billy, Daniel is acting strangely, suddenly she wonders can she trust him. Ruth doesn’t know who to trust, the story has a few twists and is full of lies and secrets. It’s a little unbelievable but I still enjoyed the read.
3.5 stars

The idea of this novel is great - two babies switched at birth and the ensuing unravelling of their stories. However, I felt that the story became disjointed with characters who,. it turned out, didn't add anything to the story. I so wanted to write a good review but was glad to finish the story and had a feeling of dissatisfaction. The parents of the child were constantly talking about him when he was supposedly asleep in the same room, the mother lost her phone but made a phone call on it, and their best friends turned out to be hideous people. It made me wonder how they could have misjudged them in the first place. I'm so sorry that it wasn't better, I wanted the author to succeed so much.

It really sounded good but the book sadly did not live up to what i was hoping for.. A bit too over the top and i really felt they were all unlikeable characters which means i didnt really want to read about any of them . This one just was not for me

The first time I tried to read this book, I only got to about 38% on my Kindle and put it down while I read at least three other books. It so did not keep my attention, if it ever got it in the first place. I did not like the format in which it appeared on my Kindle, such as chapters starting in the middle of the page. This may be something that will change in the final printing. It was also very often confusing as to who was actually talking a lot of the time. As to the actual story...it started out more or less as a "switched child at birth" kind of thing, but there were so many people constantly lying and changing their stories, including Ruth herself, that it just became a big hodge podge of disgusting deceit.

Absolutely loved this book. The plot and the characters are very well written. Right up to the final few chapters I was still not sure how it would end and that's how a book of this genre should be. Really engaging!
