A bit slow moving and spooky for me, but all in all an ok read.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

What a fun and twisty read! Fern is pregnant and moves to a new house after losing her twin sister. When touring the home she meets a woman and the story begins from there. I really liked Fern, I spent a lot of time empathizing with her and her grief. I loved her mother in law, at first I was unsure but she grew to be my favorite character. Her husband, however, was absolutely awful. As a character he made me so mad. But the writing is well done and easy to get into.

I spent a lot of the book trying to figure out if there were additional twists I didn't see coming. I feel like if you are an avid reader of thrillers than this will not be a huge surprise or shock factor book. It is a standard thriller and still fun to read. If you like narrators who can be a bit unpredictable and unreliable and a mystery that no one else believes in, then this book is for you!

Absolutely brilliant book. Had me hooked from the first chapter. The plot was really good. The only thing that bugged me was the road name! I found it extremely irritating.

This book was a fantastic read, I absolutely loved it , such a brilliant well written book . Such a good psychological thriller which was quite creepy at times and kept you guessing right to the end. After every chapter finished you just wanted to carry on reading, I couldn’t leave the book down. The characters were brilliant too, you felt you were living on the street too and such a good ending. Would really recommend this book as a must read.

A brilliantly written ghost story. From the first page the reader is drawn into an obsessively compelling tale of a married couple who move into a house where something sinister has taken place. The author cleverly brings the story to life with the believable characters and great twists leading to a rollercoaster of a ride.
I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a psychological thriller.

This book is a delicious psychological thriller, that is hard to put down. It is part ghost story, part murder mystery that will have you wanting to find out what in the world is happening to Fern. Having just moved into a big old house on Crenellation Lane, she is seeing people and things that no one else sees. She and her husband Paul are expecting their first child, so perhaps pregnancy hormones can explain the recurring sightings of her deceased twin, but what about the strange things that are happening at her house? Lots of relatable characters plus a very twisty mystery make this book a must read, for sure.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this advance copy to read and review.

This definitely a slow burner. To start with I struggled with it but eventually it was totally absorbing. I’d certainly recommend this book

This was a fun read with a haunted house type vibe. It centers on Fern, who moves into a new (to her) house with her husband after the death of her twin sister. Fern is pregnant and not coping well with the loss of her sister, and they determine that a fresh start will be good for her; however, almost as soon as they get there weird things start happening that has Fern questioning her sanity.

This was one of their creepy stories where you can’t tell if it’s a ghost story or if there is a reasonable explanation for the things that are happening- this is a style I enjoy. The twists and turns were good and I kept changing my mind about what I thought was really going on. Fern both frustrated and impressed me at various parts of the story, but it was her mother-in-law Tina who really stole the show and was my favorite character.

Overall, I enjoyed this one and felt that there were legitimate surprises throughout. I’d recommend this to those who like mysteries. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Soooooo good! Poor Fern and her losses and her stupid husband Paul who is the worst. I love the relationship she finds with her feisty mother-in-law!

3.5 Stars (I've rounded up as I felt 3 stars would be unfair, given how much I enjoyed the book)
Thank you HQ and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is released on July 13th.

I was really intrigued by this book's synopsis, as I love psychological thrillers

I lost some of the characters, I think there were a few to many & not all needed as they were insignificant after April's party, or maybe they needed to be fleshed out more to make me remember them. I personally would have preferred the author pick out a handful of characters and work with those.

I didn't particularly like the protagonist, (I also don't think it is important too either), but I did get and feel for her grief and loss and the feeling of loneliness she felt, but maybe wasn't aware of really came across well, which helped me to understand her defiance and quest to get answers. I preferred the mother-in-law character, so I was glad she was there for balance and as a duo I thought they really worked well together. The husband felt like a redundant character, but was needed at the beginning to emphasis Fern's character.

The story felt quite predictable in parts. I did enjoy the premises, but I think the weaving of the dreams into the story could have worked a little better to build suspense, maybe not knowing if it was a dream or reality, would have helped the story more, along with linking the Eddie's book more into the narrative too, may have helped.

It's an easy read that kept me interested enough to finish the book to see what happened and the story had a decent ending, tying some of the loose ends up. I thought for a debut novel that this was an enjoyable read and look forward to reading more from the author Jennifer Moore

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.

Paul and Fern move into a new house. A new start for them after the tragic death of fern’s twin sister Linny, and as they await the birth of their baby girl.

Who is the mysterious pregnant Marte who shows Fern around, and why do none of the new neighbours seem to have heard of her? Why is their a campaign of hate against Fern trying to get her to leave the house?

This was fast paced and kept me guessing throughout.

The Woman Before is a domestic suspense novel with a horror atmosphere. Fern and Paul move into a new home after the death of ferns twin sister and they believe it will be a fresh start to raise their impending baby. However, fern begins to have dreams of the woman who lived in the house before they did. Everyone seems to attribute her impending sense of dread to the pregnancy and the grief over her sister, but Fern is determined to find out what the former owner is trying to tell her.
The atmosphere is probably the best part of this novel, as the ominous and supernatural elements aren’t something one finds in the generally more realistic domestic suspense genre. The writing moves along quickly and the characters are richly drawn and you do find yourself investing into Fern’s plight.
For some reason, though, the book didn’t hook me. I think it was more my issue than an issue with the plot or writing as I do see this becoming popular with many readers and those looking for a quick thriller to escape into over a vacation. Also, the formatting of the ARC is horrendous and did at times make it difficult to orient to the events of the plot or following the dialogue. I feel that if the formatting were a little better, My engagement in the plot may have increased.
Overall, middle of the road read for me but can definitely see many others enjoying this one.

I call the story Cagney & Lacey meet Ghostbusters. There is a mystery to solve and ghosts to be put to rest.
Pregnant Fern is missing her twin who died in a road accident. Fern sees her everywhere and tries to find a meaning to these encounters. Paul is Fern's husband and thinks moving to a new house will push the illusions out
of Fern's mind. But then Fern meets Marte at the house viewing and believes she's real although no one knows her or remembers her. Marte claims to also be 5 months pregnant. After their strange encounter bad things keep happening with no explanation. Fern is desperate to find out who Marte is and where she's gone and has very vivid nightmares about this illusive person. As she gets closer to the truth things get more dangerous until the final chapters where all the lies spill out and all the mysterious happenings are explained. Fern comes off as mentally unstable but she is a fighter for the truth. With the help of her mother-in-law Tina all the mystery gets a successful resolution.

✨I could not put this down! It had me on the edge of my seat guessing what the hell was happening the whole time.

✨The writing style for me was so creepy and I was honestly scared for most of it as I sat on my own with the house getting darker! It felt so real and every creek I heard I thought I had my own Marte coming for me!

✨My favourite character was Tina for sure! She sounds like the BEST mother in law!

✨The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I did guess some of the outcome but I couldn’t be 100% sure the whole time.

✨Thank you to @netgalley and @hqstories for sending me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a really good change from my usual reading genre. A bit of a mystery with some supernatural Ellen's elements thrown in, whilst tackling the subject of grief and how brains deal with it. Really enjoyed and would recommend.

At first, I struggled with this book but carried on reading to give my honest opinion and I was so glad that I did. Once I got stuck in, I could not put it down!

Fern, tragically lost her twin sister and hasn’t been the same since. Upon moving house, Fern meets another pregnant lady who used to live there. Desperate to meet her again, but no one wants to talk about her and the whole street goes weird. Fern, is desperate to fine her again even if it means losing her husband!

The twists, turns has you hooked. By the end of the book I was crying.

Highly recommend! So glad I preserved with this one!
