**Listened to the audiobook**

I enjoyed this book, but I didn't feel very connected to the characters - something that is necessary for a romance book. You should be rooting for the characters.
The narrator was OK. The plot was OK. The characters were OK.

The whole thing was just OK - not a book that will stay with me.

I really enjoyed this story about Ella, Will and Cole. It was heartwarming, heartbreaking and emotional.

The audiobook narrator had a lovely voice, which was perfect for the story, and I really enjoyed listening to her.

Ella thought she was happy being married to Will, but Will leaves her and asks for a divorce, leaving her heartbroken and confused. Cole, their best friend of many years, comes to help her through her grief. Will Ella and Will be able to work things out, or will she grow closer to Cole? Who will she end up spending the rest of her life with?

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Would you choose a different life if you had the chance?
This book is a heartwrenching emotional rollercoaster, that I don't think I will ever forget.
The characters are flawed but relatable, I laughed, cried and at times inwardly screamed.
I loved this so much that I need to binge read every other Emma Cooper right away after reading this one in less than 24 hours.
We have all been in an unrequited love situation so it's so easy to sympathise and get lost in the romance

This is a real rollercoaster of emotions of an audiobook. I became immediately engaged with the characters of Ella, Will and Coke who have been friends since their youth. Ella and Will marry later on and have a grown up family and then out of the blue Will says he thinks they should get a divorce. And so the story unfolds bringing these three people to life in a way that you begin to really care about them and feel for them. Without giving away any spoilers, it is a heartbreaking, raw, emotional and indeed powerful story. Passionately narrated by Helen Keeley who does a fantastic job of bringing this book to life. This is my first Emma Cooper and I know I am coming back for more. My thanks to Netgalley and Headline Audio for my gifted copy.

IT WAS ALWAYS YOU
BY
EMMA COOPER.

It Was Always You, is told on two time lines. Then- 1999 and onwards. Now-2022.

The lives of Will, Ella and Cole are all so closely entwined together. From their childhood right through to the present day. From true love to unrequited love. Friendship, self doubt, guilt, dependency and misunderstandings - their lives weave together in the most intricate ways.
With the possibility of those close ties destroying them all, can a fleeting moment between the past and the present change what has already been and what is still to come?

If you have ever read a book by Emma Cooper, you will already know what a wonderful talent she is. Her writing style is deep, descriptive, flows effortlessly and won’t fail to move you.
Emma Cooper isn’t afraid to take risks and her stories don’t follow what could be considered the expected path. The reader is always left guessing right to the very end.

It Was Always You, is a glorious read. Ella, Will and Cole are a likeable trio. The story is full of warmth, friendship, deep love, heart break and hope.
Ella’s love for both men is moving and tender, but her heart can only truly belong to one.

For those of you who feel you need prior warning, the book does deal with alcoholism. The subject is handled responsibly and doesn’t skirt around the realities of having a drink problem.

This is one of those books that will stay with you long after the last page.
An unforgettable and emotional read, with a sprinkling of magic… utterly brilliant and well worth five big shiny stars.
