The storyline is so weak and is not thrilling at all. There are huge gaps in the timeline. It is written not very well. I didn’t like the characters and they are under developed.

Very well-drawn characters. Their emotions, their restlessness was all playing in front of me. Everything was flawless about the book.

Immersive, Compelling…
Opposites Bella and Kate have endured a lifetime of friendship and unfriendship - a lifetime of bonding and also of betrayal. A relationship under scrutiny in this immersive and compelling tale of a female friendship turned toxic. Told with a sharp knife edge of suspense as this friendship turns corners into something more dark and more twisted and lines blur.

Awesome.
Kate and Bella, Bella and Kate. From childhood they were inseparable yet polar opposites: Bella sensible and cautious, Kate gregarious and just a little dangerous.
Then men came into their lives and things changed: a black seed was set in in the heart of their relationship. Over decades, acts of both cruelty and love feed that seed until one shocking event leads to further tragedy. Neither will escape unscathed.
In her first standalone novel, Jessica Fellowes explores the darkest corners of female friendship, a place where loyalty and betrayal become one.
I loved it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown Books UK Sphere for giving me an advance copy of this book.

I absolutely love Jessica Fellowes Mitford series so I was really looking forward to reading this standalone novel about female friendship. Despite being very different, Kate and Bella were friends as children and The Best Friend explores the seven decades of their toxic friendship.
The Best Friend is a very short novel that took me a couple of hours to read. I wasn't able to immerse myself in this novel due to the style of dialogue which meant it was difficult to know who was speaking. The writing is spare and I found myself quite distanced from the story and characters. Sadly, a disappointing read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.
