I was really looking forward to reading Tuck’s story after Beauty and the Baller but this one just didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
The beginning was awesome, I really enjoyed it then just the vibe they gave wasn’t hooking me. They came across kind of selfish and the chemistry just didn’t quite click for me.
Also includes one of my least favourite tropes, and had I have known when I signed up for the arc I probably would have given it a miss.

I’m sad, but I will look forward to any others in the series

Princess and the Player is the second book in Ilsa Madden-Mills Strangers In Love series and is Francesca and Tuck's addictive story.
Princess and the Player is a surprise baby, sports romance with all the feels.
Francesca and Tuck meet at an exclusive club where everything is anonymous, masks are worn, no names are exchanged and lots of fun to be had. The chemistry between Tuck and Francesca is off the charts and leads them to spend an amazing lust filled night together, which leaves them reliving that night for weeks after.
After a run in with her neighbour, Francesca is shocked that Tuck is the guy from that night, the guy she hasn't been able to stop thinking about and the guy who she's been looking for everywhere she goes.
Now they both realise who each other is, Tuck is determined to be with Francesca but Francesca is reluctant to start something because she's pregnant with Tuck's baby. But of course Francesca and Tuck cannot stay away, no matter how hard she tries, and they start a no strings relationship. Tuck had a terrible childhood and when you've been told you'll never be good enough your whole life a part of you, a big part of you believes it and he believes he only deserves a surface level relationship and that he doesn't deserved to be loved.
However with a connection like theirs is too hard to ignore and without realising it they've both gotten in deep.
"My childhood has trapped me for years, creating a hollow man who didn't know how to let others in.
Then a princess came along, tore down my defences, and stole my heart."
But what does this mean for Tuck's fears of a happily ever after and what happens when Tuck finds out about the baby?
Read Princess and the Player now to find out!
I LOVED Princess and the Player so much, I could not put it down! This book is the perfect example of why Ilsa is and always will be one of my all time favourite authors!
I received an arc of Princess and the Player and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

I am just giddy after finishing Princess and the Player. Ilsa Madden-Mills delivered a sweet and swoony romance that packed an unexpected emotional punch that kept me invested from start to finish.

The first meeting between Francesca and Tuck was awkward and hot. One night, no strings, no names. Until fate, destiny, the universe...whatever you want to call it kept throwing them together.

I really liked Francesca. She was sassy and bold. Talented and kind. and carving her own path after life had handed her blow after blow. Ohhhhh boy Tuck. That man is the stuff book boyfriend dreams are made of. Generous, thoughtful and blessed with endless stamina. He was enamored with Francesca from the jump and while he couldn't quite explain it, he knew he wanted to be around her. Get to know her. Make her his.

But these two both have a tumultuous past and when the surprise of all surprises is revealed, it stirs up all their biggest fears. These two were so meant to be together, if only they would get out of their own way.

Everything about Francesca and Tuck's whirlwind romance had me up all night reading. The friendships (Jasper, Cece and Darden were the best), the hard choices, the witty banter, the art, the steam...all of it made this one unputdownable. And that ending...le sigh it was the kind of happy that was perfectly them.

WOW! Ilsa Madden-Mills has stolen my heart with her latest romance in the Strangers in Love series!! I thoroughly enjoyed Princess and the Player and can't give it less than a full 5 STARS!

𝙃𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙞𝙧. 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙚𝙙 𝙚𝙙𝙜𝙚𝙨? 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙤𝙨? 𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩.

Reading Princess and the Player came after I finished an extremely dark romance and offered a needed break for me from the genre. A palette clean if you will. But then again, I’ve always loved IMM’s writing and storytelling prowess and consider her a favorite author–and truthfully, I never need a reason to pick up something she’s penned. Beauty and the Baller was the latest IMM book that I just couldn’t put this down! It’s steamy and heartfelt with characters that fight their pasts together as well as individually so that they progress beautifully.

Tuck and Francesca had incredible chemistry, fun banter, enough SIZZLE to overheat your kindle and were beautifully scripted. The storyline was funny, emotional and lighter. I loved the journey! Their instantaneous chemistry and unexpected connection were sheer perfection. I didn’t put it down and read through the story in just one sitting. Oh, and when reading anything by IMM, you have to note the absolutely fantastic secondary characters–who often get their own stories😉–that you can’t help but appreciate so much that you are waiting with bated breath until Ilsa announces the characters in her next book. (I know I’m not the only reader who does this! But it never fails to be a huge draw for me even anticipating them!) This dual POV one-night stand, football romance is everything and deserves additional stars IMO. You cannot go wrong with this book and you shouldn’t miss it!

Princess and the Player by Ilsa Madden-Mills is a sports romance that was fun, charming and had me captivated from start to finish. Francesca was set to get married until she found her fiancée cheating right begore their wedding. On the night she was supposed to get married she ends up at an unexpected party where she enjoys one night with Tuck. Tuck is an NFL player and I like how easy-going and charming he is, though he is also trying to figure out what is next for him. He is not looking for anything serious and then he meets Francesca. Francesca’s life has not been easy and Tuck added so many more layers.

I loved their chemistry and connection so much as well as watching them fall and finding what neither was looking for but was exactly what they needed. I also loved the secondary characters so much. Princess and the Player by Ilsa Madden-Mills was a steamy story with great banter, characters and found it to be a fun and delightful read that was also emotional and touching.

Happy reading!

I was provided an arc of this book from the author via Netgalley, all opinions are my own.

This may be the second book in the series but it reads as a complete standalone. While Ronan (from Beauty and the Baller and Tuck may have met their lady love's in a similar fashion, their stories are completely independent of one another.

This follows Tuck, a NFL wide reciever who is at a crossroads in his life and career. At thirty-five he is aging out of the game he loves and is facing retirement or a trade to another team. He is also dealing with some family stuff that may or may not be impacting his game. Enter Francesca, an artist who has been let down far too many times by the people who were supposed to care about her. She meets Tuck at an exclusive members only club on the night that was supposed to be her wedding, which also happens to be his birthday. Emotions are running high for both of them, especially their attraction to one another so they agree to one night, no strings, no identities to help them both get through the night. Fast forward a couple of weeks and they run into each other and recognize one another and realize they live in the same building. Francesca wants nothing to do with Tuck and his athlete player lifestyle, but he can't do anything but think about her. They both want different things in life, but life has different plans for them.

I really loved Tuck and Francesca together. They had good banter and great chemistry. While this does focus on their relationship together, there is also a good amount of time spent with them working on their issues apart. They enter their relationship with things they both need to come to terms with and things they need to communicate about together. I feel like there could possibly be some triggering topics for some as this discusses abandonment, physical abuse, foster care, mental health, and mentions addiction. I do love that they both had a great support system on both sides as they worked through things. Francesca has a wonderful found family that she can lean on with or without Tuck. Tuck has Jasper whether he wants him or not and he also seeks out professional help from a therapist to deal with some of his issues. While pregnancy tropes tend not to be my favorite, this one was done really well and it created the right amount of angst and turmoil in the story.

Saudades.

I enjoyed this a bit more than I did the first book. they were so cute and the surprise pregnancy trope in this was done well as it wasn't consistently thrown in my face and the characters went about their lives like everything was normal until the fmc remembers that she's knocked up. Tuck has trauma and has had to deal with a lot so CHECK TW. This was light and cute read and I'm looking forward to next book, I hope is Jasper's.

I loved the first one in this series, Beauty and the Baller, and we met Tuck in that book, so it was nice getting to know more about him and have him find his HEA. Francesca had such an interesting background and I adored her character. But because this is an author I pretty much just read any of her books with barely a glance ahead of time at the whole synopsis, I didn’t realize this was going to be a surprise pregnancy story. Even though now as I read the last paragraph of the blurb I see it is right there plain as day. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing! That trope is just as good as any and of course I liked this story a lot!

There were so many wonderful characters. I loved all the people in Francesca’s life, her besties/roomies, Darden, the grumpy old man in the building, the doorman, etc. She even had some great customers from both her tattoo job and then her art job. I loved all the intricate family background story for her as well as what happened as the story went on.

Then of course we had Tuck’s friends. His family had their own emotional aspects of the story. He had ex girlfriend problems too. Plus there was the being an older football player. I love how the author threw in some references to Kansas City, my town, and their football team. Even if they didn’t use the actual team name, because it just doesn’t work that way in romance/fiction. Of course his roommate/teammate Jasper was a blast as well. And I’m wondering if we might get Jasper’s story next, although we kind of have an idea who his love interest might be.

Obviously the pregnancy was a surprise, but also kept a secret for the longest time. So many times I just kept silently telling her to tell him! It was again obvious that he was going to be upset. But maybe, just maybe, like a good romance novel, he’d get over it. However the time that it ended up coming out, well that may have been actually the right time, any earlier and maybe Tuck hadn’t had the things happen yet that he would need to see how much he did want that kind of life.

A wonderful story, loved it!

Another great romance by Ilsa Madden-Mills! All the characters were wonderful but Francesca was by far my favorite (ok, old man Darden was right up there too)! Francesca had a hard childhood in the foster care system, she didn’t let too many people get close to her but she still seemed to have hope for most of the book. It definitely felt like ‘ghosts of boyfriends past’, I mean really what are the odds… I probably would have refused to leave the house after the run in with Levi. Tucker is tortured from his past, but he is drawn to Francesca. He doesn’t believe in fate but I love the way their life has intertwined them long before they actually met! Their friends were rude or die and really, the best type of family… I am really hoping Jasper gets a story next because he just just an eager and lovable puppy of a man!

Started off a tad rocky for me, but glad I stuck through. Both Tuck & Francesca have abandonment issues, so relying on or even falling for another is a risky step. I loved how although they met through a one-night stand, they built the foundation of their relationship. Supporting characters were superb and made just as much impact on the storyline as the MCs.

PRINCESS AND THE PLAYER is the second instalment in Ilsa Madden-Mills’ contemporary, adult STRANGERS IN LOVE erotic, romance series. This is thirty-five year old, NFL running back Tuck Avery, and thirty year old, tattooist/artist Francesca Lane’s story line. PRINCESS AND THE PLAYER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Tuck and Francesca) PRINCESS AND THE PLAYER follows the building romance and relationship between thirty-five year old, NFL running back Tuck Avery, and thirty year old, tattooist/artist Francesca Lane. After catching her fiance with another woman, Francesca found herself without a direction in life. At her best friend Cecelia’s insistence , Francesca visits an exclusive $ex club where her one-night stand ends with a surprise pregnancy but more surprising is the identity of the father, the man with whom Francesca will fall in love. Enter NFL running back Tuck Avery, an embittered man who struggles with the demons from the past.The loss of her job, the news of her pregnancy, and Tuck’s pronouncement about never wanting to be a father, sends Francesca into a spiral where uncovering her own broken past reveals the heart breaking truth about the parents she never knew. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Tuck and Francesca, and the potential fall-out when Tuck’s demons continue to control his life going forward.

Francesca Lane grew up in the foster care system, and life wasn’t always easy but our heroine has made a family of her own, with the friends that have supported her with kindness and love.Tuck Avery struggles to move on from his past, and it is his past that continues to haunt and control every action in his life. With issues of trust, Tuck manages to keep everyone at a distance including the woman with whom he will fall in love.

The relationship between Tuck and Francesca begins as a one-night stand at an exclusive $ex club where anonymity is always assured but a surprise pregnancy, and an unsure future threatens our heroine’s sense of security, and any possibility of her own happily ever after. Tuck Avery’s football career is struggling, and his own future unsure but the announcement of a baby reinforces his issues of trust, and his struggle with family and love. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and charismatic secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Francesca’s best friend Cece, and their friends Brogan and Darden, as well as her ex fiance Edward, former boss Danny, and former foster brother Levi; Tuck’s teammate and friend Jasper, as well as several women that come in and out of the players lives.

PRINCESS AND THE PLAYER is a story of family, friendships, and relationships; trust and understanding; betrayal and acceptance; love and happily ever after. The premise is captivating and emotional; the romance is seductive and heart breaking; the characters are broken but struggling to move on.

Princess and the Player was a charming, romantic story. With two jaded characters, some steamy scenes, a surprise pregnancy and friends that will have you laughing out loud, this book was so much fun! If you adore adult sports romance, definitely put this one on your list!

“One night. No names. No strings. And the masks don’t come off.”
“Deal.”

This story started us off in a sex club. Tuck was taken there by his best friends, for his birthday. And Francesca, looking like Princess Bride, ended up there after ditching her wedding because her fiancée cheated on her. When Tuck was challenged by his friends to win over the closed off Princess Bride, it led him to rescuing her from a complete jerk. After one thing led to another, they slept together. And it was unforgettable. For the both of them. Yet they left not knowing who the other was, but thankfully fate was on their side.

“Not sweet at all. See, I recall a girl who sat in my lap and fed me birthday cake. She said I slayed the pantyhose dragon. She was perfect.”
“I was drunk, and perfect girls don’t exist.”

I liked Francesca right away. She was a tattoo artist and painted too. Her past and situation with her ex just made me want to hug her and help her find her HEA! Especially when she found out she was pregnant, from her one night stand with a stranger. But I loved her positive attitude and those she surrounded herself with. Her made family was so heartwarming. So when she put the pieces together for who that mystery man was, a NFL player who lived in her building, I was screaming. And so nervous for her. Because there was still that chemistry there. Lots of chemistry. And it seemed that everywhere she turned, Tuck seemed to be there too.

He is everything I shouldn’t want, but . . .
I close the distance between us. My hands move up his chest and curl around his neck. My fingers tangle in his hair.

While Tuck fought so many demons and struggles, he was such a thoughtful gentlemen. He had a rough past and his parents shaped his idea of how he saw his worth in relationships and wanting love. He didn't ever want commitment or a family. On top of that he didn't have a ton of trust in strangers after dealing with a crazy stalker from his past. So Tuck was the ultimate player. And he never got attached. He also had a lot on his plate since he was old for being in the NFL. He knew his days were numbered, but that had been his world forever. Yet even with his dying career, he couldn't seem to get Francesca out of his mind. Tuck wanted her again. And Tuck always seemed to get what he wanted.

I wanted anyone, someone, to just pick me.
I want him to pick our child. Would he?

As the pieces fell together and they figured out who the other was, I was laughing and even gasped out loud. Their banter was fabulous and I loved the ease they could talk to one another. And while they both had some steep walls, Francesca's seemed even higher. So when she would give Tuck an inch, my heart would soar. But with jealousy, desire and friendship mixed together, they were explosive. And secrets were kept, by the both of them. So while there was a lot they had to conquer, I felt like this book had a good amount of angst. Neither too much or too little. It fit. And so did the fate between the two of them too. Francesca started to believe, but Tuck wasn't there. I kept my fingers crossed for the both of them while they kept having steamy or heartwarming moments together.

“Francesca,” Mr. Darden says, then takes my shoulder. “My dear . . .”
I turn to him, and he wraps his arms around me. “My eyes are leaking again,” I whisper.
He gives me his handkerchief.

With a fabulous group of friends, it rounded out this story so well! I adored Jasper and his crazy ways. Darden was her grumpy elderly neighbor who made me smile. I adored Francesca's friendship with Cece, it felt like they were sisters. And from the moment I met Gianna, I liked her right away! And I just have to say that you definitely don't have to read the first book in this series, Beauty and the Baller, to enjoy this book at all. It can easily be read as a standalone but I can't recommend that other book enough! And disclaimer, I didn't read the synopsis so I had no clue this had the pregnancy trope. I love Ilsa's books so I went in knowing nothing, other than it would revolve around a football player and I enjoyed every minute!

“I’m half-afraid you might disappear.” The words are barely a whisper, and I’m not sure she hears. I watch the slow rise of her chest as she drifts off. I’m in deep with her, and I’ve got no idea where we’re going. My fear? This is gonna hurt when it’s over.

If you're looking for a romantic Kindle Unlimited book to binge, I definitely recommend Princess and the Player! With flawed and relatable characters, a heartwarming story-line, fun side characters and a fabulous HEA, this book was such a huge win! I can't wait to read whatever Ilsa releases next!

Favorite Quote: “Besides, it’s all about how you define yourself, yes? To not let the past rule your future? Life picked my path, and I’m just a traveler.”

Synopsis: It’s wedding day but there will be no wedding. After Francesca ditches the altar due to her unfaithful fiancé, she puts on her wedding dress and heads to an exclusive club for the evening. Happy Birthday, Avery! When the guys take NFL star Avery out for his birthday, they attend a masquerade ball at an exclusive club. There is only one rule, the masks must never come off, an evening full of secretive fun. “The weak can never forgive. Forgiving is an attribute of the strong.” When a positive pregnancy test follows a night of secretive fun that was instigated by a bet, decisions will need to be made.

Reader’s Thoughts: This was my first true five star read this month. Ilsa had me hooked from the very beginning. I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters within this novel. Our two main characters were full of steam and sarcasm which had me giggling and yelling page after page. I was rooting for them both from the very beginning. I was dying for them to let down their walls. The secondary characters, including Cherry, added to the storyline. I would love to see their stories unfold in future novels. Thank you, @socialbutterfly_pr and @ilsamaddenmills for providing me with a complimentary review copy. In no way has that influenced my voluntary review.

5 stars!

Francesca and Tuck meet at a high end club where masks are required and your desires are fulfilled. After an amazing night together, they part ways not knowing each other’s names and they assume they will never meet again. Fate has other ideas. Turns out they live in the same building and Francesca has seen him around. She’d never guess that he was the man behind the mask who gave her more than an unforgettable night.

Tuck and Francesca meet again at a café but things don’t go as well the second time around. There is an intensity between them and familiarity but they don’t recognize each other right away. When Francesca realizes Tuck is the mystery man, she also discovers she is pregnant with his baby, and it’s something that catches her completely by surprise.

OMG, I adored Tuck and Francesca. From the moment these two met I knew there was a connection. They never could forget about their one-night stand and when they meet again Tuck wants to get to know her better. He pursues her and though she is holding onto a pretty big secret, she can’t stop from knowing him either.

The physical aspect of their relationship is easy. They have smoking hot chemistry and the attraction is palpable. It’s the emotional part that makes things more difficult. Both have been hurt in the past and have their own issues with rejection and neither want to have their heart broken. Francesca knows Tuck doesn’t want kids because of his own experience with his parents and since she was abandoned as a baby, she won’t do the same to her baby, and it sets them up for what could be a very heartbreaking situation.

Before they know it, feelings are full on and they could see a future together. They work so well, being just what the other needs. They are able to be themselves and love each other unconditionally. They want to heal the wounds and never let hurt in again. However, hurt is on the horizon and gets closer each day that passes.
He is something I never imagined I needed…Her is air. Life. And his flawed edges? His chaos? I love them the most.

Even though there is some drama in this story and I was definitely dreading the heartbreak that was coming I think it was all done very well. It could have gone other ways but I loved how they come together in the end. Their love is real and I was swooning when Tuck makes his decision. And Francesca is so strong and didn’t give up on the life she wanted.

The secondary characters are fantastic. I couldn’t get enough of Darden, Cece, and Brogan and their love and support for Francesca, nor could I get enough of their humor. I loved Jasper and his friendship with Tuck, and the fun he brings wherever he is.

Overall, I loved Princess and the Player and can’t get enough of the Strangers in Love series. I want more!

I am a huge fan of Ilsa, and she continues to stretch and give us stories that leave a lasting impression (Dear Ava, anyone?). Princess and the Player is, quite frankly, an angsty read. Both of the main characters had devastating childhoods that left them with a pile of baggage suitable for overseas travel. There is fear of abandonment, fear of trust, fear surrounding careers, just all-around fear that has stacked their respective baggage into massive walls that are difficult to scale. Throw into that a surprise pregnancy, and the fuses are lit for the fear rockets to fly. But what Ilsa gives us is a story of a found family that will love you through and around your emotional baggage. A found family that will help you through the rocky times. A found family that will talk you through your stupid moves and stupid words. A found family that will intervene and give you hard truths, but that will also be there for the good times or bad. A found family that will not abandon you or blame you. That is what makes their story so good. I personally prefer Ilsa's more lighthearted novels, but I would not take one thing away from Tuck and Francesca. It was a lovely story of finding love and finding a family.

I've been waiting for this book ever since it was announced...And when I received an ARC, I devoured it right away.

It's heartwarming and surprisingly heart-wrenching. Heart-wrenching because I did not expect it to tug my heart at a much deeper level. So, depending on how emotional you are at the time of reading, you might need your Kleenex near you.

I enjoyed every page from start to finish. Tuck is swoon-worthy and Francesca is inspiring! I wish there was an epilogue that will show these two 5-8 years in the future.

Okay so I thought I loved book one in this series but book two just blew me away!!

Tuck and Francesca’s love story seems simple on the surface but there’s so much going on beneath the surface. Tuck is a complex hero and I loved that he wasn’t your average alpha football player. And Francesca, we’ll she was my favourite kind of heroine. Throw in some fantastic friends and this was such an enjoyable read. Definitely recommend.

One night between strangers was all it was ever supposed to be for Tuck Avery and Francesca Lane. But after the best anonymous sex of their lives, these two single, yet guarded, individuals are about to start finding themselves running into each other everywhere...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Princess and the Player was a complicated, flirty, and fun, opposites attract romance! Francesca and Tuck had an epic evening in a sex club that was sure to provide memories to last a lifetime, but once they realize they live in the same building?! One night may never be enough... no matter how complicated their lives are about to get...
This book was a delightfully sexy and entertaining read! Francesca was a strong and talented woman who has never had an easy lot in life. Her latest heartbreak, in the form of a cheating fiancé, brings her to a night of debauchery with her friends at a sex club. One evening of anonymous sex later, and Francesca is about to get the surprise of her lifetime...
Tuck is considered an old man in the NFL, and has no idea what life will be like after he retires. And while Francesca holds his interest in innumerable ways, he makes no secret of what a future with him would look like...
I loved this book so much, Francesca and Tuck were both intriguing characters who have had pain in their pasts and family issues that weigh on them often. After they recognize each other outside of their night of anonymity, the road to a relationship is anything but forthcoming. Tuck is a famous football player who lives in the penthouse, while Francesca is recently jilted and jobless, but for what their differences are, the attraction between them is always simmering, just below the surface...
I absolutely adore both books on the Strangers in Love series, and I sincerely hope there are MANY more books featuring these fabulous characters and the world of these sexy NFL players...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
