Satisfying follow up to 'Daughter of the Moon Goddess' - this novel again follows Xingyin and her exploits in the Celestial Realm, including many of the characters from the previous book, and introducing a few new ones.

As usual, nothing is calm and peaceful for Xingyin after she returns to the moon. The action starts within the first few chapters and then barrels forward with no let up really! Familiar characters return and new ones arrive (no spoilers!) to add to the plot. New challenges and adventures test Xingyin's character and heart, and her love interests are always simmering in the background!

I liked the ending - you know what to expect and you can see it unfolding, but it is left on a relatively small cliffhanger....... knowing now that there is a novella coming, hopefully the ending is expanded upon.

I couldn’t wait for this one after reading daughter of the moon goddess, and was excited to receive an arc of it!! I would really recommend, the story flowed well and was a nice end to the duology!

This was a nice read but i didn't enjoyed it as much as the first one .The writing style was very beautiful and lyrical but the ending kind of felt rushed and flat

A wonderful second half to this duo of books. I listened to the first and was quite swept away by the story and characters and even though I've now read the second title I think I'd like to listen on audio to immerse myself into it fully. Look forwards to more from this author.

I want to say thank you to Sue Lynn Tan, HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction, and netgalley for this ARC

Volume 1 of this duology was a real "coup de coeur" for me. I fell in love with the author's writing, world, and characters.
I must admit that it took me a long time to want to start this latest volume, for fear of being disappointed by the sequel.

And even if the ending isn't what I'd hoped for, I still couldn't be disappointed.
The author once again invites us into her beautiful and magical world and transports us into this beautiful story. Lots of feeling, magic, tension, pain, and heartbreak.

Be prepared to shed a tear as you read this book, because the characters are going through a lot.

A great conclusion to the first book, a lovely story and it answered all my questions from the first and more. Also, how stunning is the cover?

If you haven't picked up the series yet I would wholeheartedly recommend.

The second in the duology, this story depicts some beautiful mythology and brings us back into the world of these characters that we have come to love.

Overall, it was less memorable that the first book and I preferred the storyline of the first too. Still eager to read more from the author!

Thanks: Received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It was so fun to be able to return to this world and the author has an incredible way of making you feel fully immersed within the story. I was on the edge of my seat as Xingyin’s life was once again threatened and she has to leave the peace of her home behind.

I’m not a love triangle girlie, so I will admit this part of the story stressed me out as I had no clue whether Xingyin would go for Wenzhi or Liwei and I hate not knowing! Like Xingyin, I felt torn between the both of them!

There were moments where the pace of the story dragged for me slightly, but overall, I really enjoyed this book and was desperate to see how everything resolved itself.

i love this duology. i consider it a chinese drama in written form and written so beautifully, it's impossible to not falling in love with it. i would have liked a bigger epilogue? yes. but i'm happy with the one i got (again, chinese drama. their endings scare me). i'll miss the atmosphere of this book and the characters (fingers crossed for a spinoff, there are a lot of interesting characters and i'm not ready to leave them)

As I finished the first book I felt like there could have been a sequel and low and behold there was one.

This one wasn't as action packed as the first and I found that it focused more on the characters. I would have loved to explored the world building more but that doesn't put too much of an issue into things.

It has a fitting end to this duology that was satisfying and I can't wait to ser what else this author has in store for us.

Absolutely stunning. I loved the first book when I received it in a book box last year, so I couldn’t wait for the sequel. I usually struggle with myth inspired fantasy but this really spoke to me. Beautiful prose, characters you could genuinely like and root for, and a stunning cover to boot.

When I read Daughter of the Moon Goddess at the start ot the month I knew I wanted to also read book 2 and I’m so glad I did. As much as the love triangle annoyed me and I wasn’t sure if this could match book 1 I was not disappointed. So much happens in such a short space of time and I really struggled to put this down. I really want there to be a book about what happens next especially in regards to Wenzhi being mortal.

A beautiful, perfect conclusion to the Daughter of the Moon Goddess duology. It's basically perfect - 10/10 I cried my eyes out and felt a lot of feelings.

Heart of the Sun Warrior was the first book I read in 2023, and it automatically made my 'best books of the year' list. Quite a feat!

Gentle spoilers ahead

William Faulkner said "The only thing worth writing about is the human heart in conflict with itself", this book is a brilliant example of the human heart being in conflict, Xingyin once again finds herself in the middle of a remarkably complicated love triangle that twists back and forth constantly, add to that guilt, trauma, inability to trust and the weight of the world on her shoulders and you begin to understand the levels of conflict Xingyin and her poor heart face throughout this book.

I love the magical world created in this duology, and the sequel builds upon the beautiful foundations of the first one with some lovely new additional settings and some not so lovely magical beings that nonetheless provide a great enemy that needs to be overcome!

Another beautiful read! I absolutely adore this series, the world is just as magical as the book covers.

I did go into this book rather bias as i loved the first book in the duology. I found this book equally fast paced and I just couldn't put it down. the vivid images it gave me from the world building is brilliant and it is something I often struggle with. I really enjoy the love triangle trope and i think the ending of the duology as a whole was done very well.
