This book was everything I hoped it would it be.
I was hooked quickly and completely unwilling to put this down. I devoured this book in just one sitting. I have no regrets and can’t wait to read more by this author.

This is such a page turner. It is told from different perspectives. I enjoyed the setting on a cruise ship. It had some good twists in it. A good ‘locked room’ thriller

An immersive and twisty read set aboard a cruise ship across multiple timelines.

A person falls overboard one night in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, witnessed by passengers but still with little hope of rescuing them.

The ship is due for repairs and when they reach their destination only a skeleton crew remains on board. However, the body count continues to climb with no clear link. Are these all suicides, accidents or is there a serial killer on the loose?

A chilling and twisty destination read.

I read this book about a year ago and somehow failed to write a review at that time. I requested and received an advanced reader e.copy of this book from NetGalley based on the setting being on a Cruise ship, a particular love of mine and I’ve enjoyed books before in this setting. So, thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publishers.

The book, I felt was a little bit difficult to get into, the characters, their back stories and varying time lines were introduced, some getting more time than others. The storyline you can get from the blurb on the book, suffice to say that a dancer goes missing and someone witnesses what they presume is a figure falling past their window.

Then there are other deaths and before long the ship is decommissioned for investigations into the problems highlighted by the deaths.

I guessed fairly early on where the book was going but wasn’t sure of the whys. All was neatly explained at the end.

It’s a shame, in my opinion, that more wasn’t made of life on a Cruise Ship as the ship wasn’t functional for so much of the book.

It was an ok read. No big twist for me. So three stars.

The glamorous ship Immanis and a New Year's Eve party that ends with the ship's dancer Lola disappearing. The coast guard is called and the ship is searched but there is no sign of her.

There is a sub plot which I loved and I couldn't work out how it would all come together at the end, but it did wonderfully.

As I haven't been on a cruise I loved the setting and the Caribbean location for this book.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book in one sitting - I was absorbed by it but cannot say I enjoyed it. I found the characters difficult to relate to and was not sure I found it believable.

Lola - a very complicated young woman who had suffered trauma in her childhood and wanted to revenge - is the central character. We are given an insight into her backstory and how she came to be a dancer on the cruise ship.

The story speeds up in the last third and I did not expect the outcome. It all felt a little OTT. I was not sure that someone could actually act in such a calculated way.

An interesting read.

An excellent thriller set on a luxurious cruise liner.

A story that rewards the reader in many different ways as the mystery deepens and all is not what it seems, or is it?

This book has added depth and a cracking reveal as things progress and it moves at a very pleasing velocity.

Would I go on a cruise now? Possibly.

Would I read something by Catherine Cooper again? Definitely.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an impartial review.

It’s New Year’s Eve and the Immanis, a very large cruise ship, is sailing in the Caribbean. A passenger in the Champagne bar thinks she sees a person fall from the upper deck into the sea. After the alarm is raised, they discover that Lola, one of the ships dancers, is unaccounted for, and an investigation is launched by the local police.

The ship is laid up for maintenance with minimal staff, who are doing their best to move on - but when other deaths begin to occur they start to wonder more about Lola. Did she commit suicide or was she pushed, and is her killer still among them?

For the first couple of chapters this felt a bit basic story and I wondered if I was going to enjoy it but then the story changes and goes back to a different timeline and narrative.

From then on, the story gets more intriguing as it gathers pace, leaping from one timeline to another and to another, and has more twists than a bowl of spaghetti!

If you like your thrillers with a fast pace and lots of twists, then this is for you.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return of an honest, unbiased review.

Having been on a cruise recently earlier this year, I was really interested to read this. It absolutely did not disappoint and I was hooked from the very start. Intriguing, and captivating, it really threw me in all different directions from what I expected. Very enjoyable thriller.

A fast paced read that will make you second guess going on a cruise. A guest is found murdered and then the skeleton staff start to disappear. A thriller packed with unbelievable twists.

All on board! Or, in this case , overboard! On New Year's Eve, a body is spotted falling from the top deck from the luxurious party area and a crew member is discovered missing. Is it another suicide on board the luxury liner? A suicidal death was recorded on board a hot tub the previous crossing. The Cruise ship ports for a fortnight with a skeleton crew on board, but the nightmare isn't over. More bodies come to foul play. Who and what is to blame? Ther eisteddfod no easy explanation. The truth takes us much further away from the Caribbean and back in time. The storyline does do a bit of a dramatic jump to get the back story, but it all comes together in the final showdown. A dramatic and entertaining read. #the cruise #Catherinecooper #netgalley

Well. That’s another holiday off the list.

That’s the problem when an author writes an attention-grabbing book, with a nice setting and not-so-nice events.

Lola, one of the dancers on a cruise ship, falls to her death over the side of the ship, and her brother Antonio is devastated. But then more things are revealed - and I don’t want to give any of them away!

This book has a dual timeline: we go back in time to find out more about the characters, and it gives the reader some idea of why they’ve behaved the way they have. I do like a dual timeline.

No-one’s blameless or particularly nice in this, and I did wonder if Antonio was actually in possession of all/ any of his faculties.

I’m not going to say anything else about the story. I will say that it was a gripping read with a lot of forehead-slapping moments, and a few “Oh my God”s! (It’s not just me that does this, is it?).

Very enjoyable!

I have read and enjoyed both of Catherine Cooper's previous books and this one did not disappoint. Set on board a luxury cruise ship in the Caribbean, it features several deaths (murders?) and some very interesting characters. What is going on and who is responsible? The side plot that was set several years before the main story was cleverly told. All in all, an excellent page turner of a thriller.

I liked this book, although some of thecharacters were downright repellent and controlling. The story develops in two parts so at first it is hard to see any connection with the characters and their subsequent story. I felt that there was a lot of coincidence to bring them all together and not really quite sure how that would pan out in real life. Lola was a complex character to say the least!
An enjoyable story.

It's new years eve 2021 on the cruise ship and one of it's dancers, Lola goes missing. Someone is seen falling overboard - is it Lola?
On the whole I enjoyed this story it had plenty of twists and turns but it was a little far fetched.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.

This isn’t just any ordinary cruise! The story starts with quite a literal bang as we meet a competition winner who has bagged a suite in a gorgeous cruise ship but is destined to not see much of its beauty. We then move forward and meet some of the main players in the story and start to get a feel for life on the luxury liner from the perspective of the staff. I think I’ve mentioned on other posts that I have never cruised, sadly the environmental impact means that I don’t think I ever will, but that a close friend worked as a cruise ship doctor for many years. I quite like the idea of the glitz and glamour but always wonder if I might get seasick or feel trapped. Fairly soon into the story there is a tragedy and a crew member, Lola, disappears. This devastates the staff and the atmosphere changes somewhat. There’s a little bit of suspicion cast upon many characters based on their reactions but nothing to be sure that any or all are involved or have nefarious intent!

The story unfolds over multiple parts, some take you back a number of years, many are more real time in nature. I’m hesitant to comment too much on the historical chapters as I don’t want to accidentally ruin some plot points. I liked how the chapters were quite snappy and I felt that the story moved well, there wasn’t an urgency to it but I never felt like it was being overly spun out. It is definitely a book where you need to know what is happening and certainly I felt invested in the storyline from very early on. There are occasions where I felt that in real life things may not have panned out quite the same way but of course were this real life then it wouldn’t be such a great story!

I’d recommend The Cruise for readers who want to be entertained, kept guessing and engrossed in their book. I really like Catherine’s writing and eagerly await her next book (no pressure)!

Excellent storyline, great characters, kept me hooked from the beginning! Another great read from a brilliant author

A floating city of pleasure and luxury becomes the scene of a tragic accident or was it intentional, either way someone is missing. The aftermath reveals secrets, people hiding secrets, people using secrets to threaten others - overall it seems as if the disappearance of one person starts of a type of unravelling in other people. Is it guilt? A killer, a blackmailer or is there a bigger picture?

It's a psychological thriller, a mystery with a sort of dual storyline, and the way they seem unconnected. The cruise ship, which in itself is an extravaganza of expensive living, and yet it is also becoming the scene of too many accidents and crimes. Simultaneously the story of a missing child, who reappears under traumatic circumstances with no memory of her life before she was taken.

The author does an excellent job of keeping the two stories completely separate for the majority of the book, so much so that the reader forgets one when they delve into the other, and vice-versa. Both so engrossing that there is no thought of why, or if they could be linked.

It's an engrossing read, and certainly one that makes me want to read more.
