There is a lot to enjoy in The Love Experiment. Lily, better known as "The Love Dr." from her dating advice podcast is great at giving relationship and sex advice to everyone but herself. Jay,is so busy looking towards the future in finding a life partner he can't stop long enough to live in the present and get to know his dates. When the two meet, both of their worlds become disordered as, of course, romance ensues. I found the chemistry and banter between them delightful and their insecurities relatable. This is a humorous feel good romcom I think many will find entertaining.

Even so, three things keep this story in the "good but not great" category for me. I liked Lily's character a lot. She is sympathetic even though she struggles with a high need of control. One of the areas that Lily is super vigilant is her weight, fitness and overall appearance. I was uncomfortable with how her weight loss and maintenance was presented as something she does the "right" or "healthy" way in dealing with a medical condition because she is just that disciplined while the book also acknowledges that others could do the same thing and not see the same result- (which for her is the perfect skinny body). For someone with disordered eating and body issues, Lily's character may be hard to read. It's like the author was saying- "yes. diet and exercise can only go so far and some people can't be skinny no matter what because bodies are different, but isn't it great Lily found the way to be smoking hot "the right way." This is only made worse by the fact that Lily is also a therapist and should see through this herself. I do think the author takes pains to show this through Lily's POV and leaves signals that we as readers should pick up on to see this is rationalization as opposed to truly healthy- but readers should be aware of the possible triggers here before reading.

Secondly- I am always happy to see well developed side characters in romances. It's important to see romance in the context of life, and relationships with family and friends don't just fade into the background once you meet that right person. We have a great circle of characters here. But doing so can be a tough balance, and I think the book tries to do too much at once. Jay worries his sister is in a toxic relationship and needs to get out. Lily's friend Kevin is in a fledgling relationship that may or may not work, all while he is also coming out to his parents as a Drag Queen. While each plot line on its own may work, taken together they made story feel far less cohesive.

Finally- We get narration from both Lily and Jay's point of view. This is always an effective way to see how the character's own issues cause a breakdown in the relationship and/or how much they really do care and makes for great character development. It works well here, but the chapters don't always have a clear rotation of whose point of view you are in. I found myself having to take a few paragraphs to tell, am I still with Lily or is this now Jay? Also, there is a little too much repetition where we see them work something out in a conversation with a friend, and then again together etc without much change, which slowed down the overall story a bit too much for me in places.

All of this aside, the novel is a satisfying read if you enjoy humor, witty banter, and a feel good romance.

This book is impossible to read. The pov/active character changes each chapter but you’ve no indication who it is now until part way through the chapter, which then throws you and you then have to go back and reread it in the voice of the character it’s supposed to be. This was a DNF for me due to the poor writing style, which could be easily fixed had the author just written the characters name at the the side of the chapter no

A story about an love doctor with her own history and the man who flips her world upside down. At the beginning I got confused when the chapters switched points of view and didn't know it switched until further in the chapter. Really cute story and loved the message it shares.

I could not get into this one, I could not stand the writing/narrative style. I tried to get it more of a chance, but I could not do it. I've never read anything else by this author before, so I am not sure if it is them or just the way they were writing the character. But I was not able to keep reading it.

The premise of this book sounded great but I just couldn't get into it and ended up giving up on it. The writing style is confusing with the POV changing without making it obvious which character it is. I am also over every character with PCOS making out that an eating disorder and working out constantly is a cure and that anyone who doesn't has failed. They also make out that she was hideous when she was "fat & hairy". I wasn't a massive fan of Lily's character in general and her chapters just felt like a therapy session.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. I often don't understand the humor in British rom coms, and that was the case here. I had trouble following whose POV the scenes were in. The overall voice was darker than I expect from a rom com. DNF.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I receive. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This book wasn't for me. I didn't like the writing style. The book was a bit of a struggle to read, mainly because it was unclear from which point of view it was written. It was hard to figure out who was talking. The plot was more serious than I thought it would be. It felt like a therapy session.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Lily and Jay, but I absolutely adored Kevin and Dan. I would absolutely read their love story over and over again. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Lily finally pulled her head out of her ass, and Jay was exactly what we came to expect from him.. considerate, loving, and understanding.

An enjoyable read with a nice love story but almost better is the really warm and loving thread re friendship flowing through it.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I think I would have thoroughly enjoyed this book however I felt that it was quite a bit
Too adult for my taste and I couldn’t bring myself to finish it .However I think people from an older and less conservative audience would enjoy it more.

This is a funny and adorable book. When two people meet that have vowed not to have a serious relationship with anyone, sparks fly and they try to keep things at bay. As you can guess, lots of scenarios force them to be together. There is a ton of comedy in their situations to help alleviate some of the more serious aspects of their lives. It is a bit long with a lot of chapters spent on their self analysis, which I didn’t find necessary but overall it was a fun book. The drag scene added some exceptional humour and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at some parts. If you are looking for a rom/com than this is the one for you.

This book had promise and a really great premise, but it fell flat. I was confused from the minute the book started. I didn’t know who’s POV I was in and who these characters were. The jumping back and forth with no explanation really threw me. It was hard to stay invested and to actually want to finish this book.

Thank you to NetGallery, Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter for this eARC.

I was so looking forward to this one and feel a bit let down by it.

I am hoping in the final version, they give a better description of who's POV we are in for each chapter. It was hard to keep up wiht that and figuring out who's head I was in was distracting and at times frustrating.

The story was cute, at times a bit slow, but overall a cute read.

I gave this book 3/5 stars.
One of the first thing that bothered me, but maybe it's just a problem in the ARC and it will be corrected when published, is that at first some chapters are a bit confusing because the different pov are not specified and i often had to read almost an entire page before understanding if that was Lily's or Jay's pov.
The story felt a bit slow at the beginning and then too fast in the second half, i'm not really a fan of insta-love.
I loved the first interactions between the two main characters, the sauna scenes were really funny and overall i liked all the characters.
The story between Kevin and Dan was so cute and i'm happy they were given so much space in the book.
Bonus points for talking about therapy, sexuality and pcos.

Thank you Harper Collins, One more chapter for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really wanted to love this book but I didn’t work for me unfortunately. I liked that Lily, the female main character, is a sex and relationship psychologist. I love the fact that she is very independent and a hard working women.

Unfortunately the style of writing was a no go for me. I found the sudden switches in the point of views very confusing. I would have liked the story better when these switches where marked at the chapter title for example. The lack of this makes the book very difficult to read.

Also I found some topics in this book quite heavy. Personally I don’t have a really big problem with that but, I think the book has a wrong description. The book is introduced as a book for fans of Ali hazelwood and Emily Henry. I don’t think this book suits this genre. I think the book would suit better if there is a little less therapy in it.

In conclusion I think this book would have more potential if the point of view changes were more clear and there were a little less therapy topics in it. For now it wasn’t my cup of tea.

I'm sorry but as someone who lives with PCOS I do hope the author actually has it and is not writting what she thinks it's like. Couldn't get through it once I saw the "fat and hairy" comments. I do hope she's aware that exercising yourself to death doesn't magically repair PCOS induced weight.

Unfortunately, this book is rather confusingly written, with a barrage of characters making their appearance at once, which, combined with the chapters being told from different points of view, made reading this book a struggle rather than a pleasure.
Surely others will like it because it is not superficial and deals with rather important issues as well, but personally I couldn't wait to finish it.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
