Lexi and her hen party of friends old and new travel to a remote villa on a Greek island for a hen mini-break. What could possibly go wrong?!

One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke is my first book by the author. I thought the book was going to be more of a thriller, but it felt more of a drama with the tension of the women’s secrets and lies. I think the ending was a little predictable. Nonetheless, I think it’s a good poolside summer read.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, HarperCollins UK Audio, for making this audio-ARC available to me for a fair and honest review.

I loved the different perspectives and characters in this story - also some I preferred to listen to than others! The setting of a remote Greek island was built up beautifully. This could be an excellent summer beach read! (Or a little bit of escapism)

I found it was more of a drama type story than a thriller which was not was I was expecting but was pleasantly surprised. A few twists although they were slightly predictable!

Overall a really great book (and audiobook with excellent narration)

Really enjoyed the latest book by Lucy Clarke although it took a while to get into in comparison to Castaways which I raced through. Kept me guessing as to where it was going and just who the victim was going to be. Very well pulled together, I look forward to more.

I absolutely LOVED this book. One of my books of 2022. I thought the narrator was great You could really hear the very subtle differences in the voices she used for each character. The story itself was just brilliant. I constantly changed my mind about what was going on and loved all the twists - I was exhausted by the end! Character development was great and I really enjoyed how each of their personalitles came out bit by bit with details of their backgrounds. Just really enjoyed. I hadn't read anything previously by Lucy Clarke but I absolutely will now.

WOW!!!!! Hooked from the first page and read this book in one sitting… Full of tension and suspense. A real page turner, a domestic noir but OMG so much more!!!!!

Continuing with my recent run of thrillers I had an audiobook of One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke on my Netgalley shelf so decided to make a start on it.

I loved the title and the many inferences that could be taken from it - one of the girls in terms of inclusivity in the hen weekend, one of the girls narrating with no identification as to who and obviously one of the girls is presumed the murderer. I thought that was pretty clever!

The story probably didn’t go quite like I though. For instance the victim - I never assumed it would be them. It was quite pacey with each of the girls taking turn narrating the chapters so the story unfolded quickly and suspicions build about motives and who might be responsible.

This is the perfect blend for thriller fans and those seeking vicarious holiday thrills with the gorgeous setting in Greece that the author brings to life through the story.

I’d been seeing and hearing lots about this one and I was desperate to get my hands on it. There were rave reviews everywhere, which did give me the fear a bit, but this one definitely lived up to the hype!

The story is written over multiple POV’s which was really helpful for getting a feel to each of the girls. The pacing started slow as it built a picture but definitely got more fast paced and exciting as the story unfolded.

All the individual stories and characters, wove together really well and I really enjoyed how clever the connections were. There was one I really wasn’t expecting that made me ‘ooooo’. To be fair, I loved all the little red herrings dotted throughout to throw you off the scent. I genuinely couldn’t work out how it was all going to go.

The characters were really well developed and it sucked you into the story so much more - I ended up feeling quite attached to all of them. Knowing that ‘someone’ was dying at the end, I was constantly watching out for clues but I was thrown off right the way through until the end.

Overall I found it a really enjoyable read. A cleverly done plot with deep and interesting characters kept me hooked throughout. Would definitely recommend to any mystery/thriller lovers. It’s my first read of Lucy Clarke’s and definitely won’t be my last.

I loved this book! This is the perfect summer-read thriller!

Fast-paced, with a twist that was carried out so beautifully and flawlessly, the hen-do weekend organised for Lexie ended in bloodshed. Lucy Clarke introduced the reader to six women, each with their own personalities, and each with their own secrets, who tried to enjoy the hen-do and keep their secrets close. But, as it turns out, they couldn’t. I loved each of the six women equally, and really enjoyed how equal attention was given to each character. Even though Lexie was the bride to be, and the glue that held these women together, she did not stand out as much as I thought she would, and I initially thought that the story would mainly focus on her. I’m glad instead that the book was written (well, for me, narrated) from each woman’s perspective, as it really allowed me as a reader to connect with them.

I have read similar thrillers before, with a similar storyline where a vacation takes place and someone ends up dead at the end, but One of the Girls really captured both the character and story-building that hooks the reader in but does so in a way that makes you want to carry on reading (or listening) without stopping. The story was just the right pace and length, and I have to say the narration was beautiful.

Thriller and mystery is one of my favourite genres and I would recommend One of the Girls to all the thriller and mystery fans out there!

I received an Arc of this title in exchange for an honest review, with gratitude to NetGalley and the publishers.

I knew this was going to be right up my street, and I was not wrong. In fact it was excellent I absolutely loved it. A suspense filled twisting story that begins with Lexi’s hen weekend in Greece where we know that someone is going to die, but who will it be.

Now, normally no matter how many thrillers I read I have usually pretty much guessed it by midway at least. This time I hadn’t guessed until it actually happened, but prior to that honestly the amount of times I stopped and went “oooh, wait, what” there are so so many twists that I don’t want to spoiler, but they link together fabulously, I absolutely loved this group of women. The tangled messy friendships that just work! Absolutely fantastic I’d highly recommend it. The writing is perfect, the characters and storyline written amazingly well, and beautiful narration too.

A gripping, twisty thriller, perfect as a summer read!

I loved the location and how different all the characters were. From very early on I tried hard to guess who the anonymous voice at the end of the chapters was but I kept changing my mind as the story developed. There are a few twists that are very well done and I did not anticipate any of them.

I listened to the audiobook version and I think the narrator did a very good job. The only downside to this format when there are so many characters is that sometimes is difficult to keep track of who is who, and I had to go back a couple of times to get my head around it.

Overall, a very good thriller I recommend.

Thank you NetGallery and HarperCollins UK Audio for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't know what to expect but I was very much pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed the short chapters (ALWAYS THE BEST) and multiple povs, they were done really well and worked for this story! I am not the biggest fan of slow burn suspense but this kept me gripped enough throughout the whole book where I was invested throughout! I LOVED the Greek Island setting and the whole concept of being trapped on an island with a murderer, I mean I loved it in the book I'm not sure if I'd love it as much IRL.. An absolutely fab thriller, I will definitely be checking out more books from this author!

Thank you Lucy Clarke, Net Galley and Putnam for this eARC!

This was a great story. I loved how there was a diverse type of characters each with their own hidden secret that we needed to work out the connections between the characters. The setting was fantastic as it was set on holiday in Greece. So this will make a brilliant summer/beach read. I thought the interactions between the women was very cleverly wrote. It causes great controversy and some very interesting situations. It is definitely one of those books that build slow to give you time to learn each of the ladies back stories that speeds up to a brilliant grand Finale. There is so many unexpected twists and turns. With some great edge of your seat moments. If you loved big little lies by Liane Moriarty then this book is definitely a must read for you.

It was well wrote, with interesting characters and an intriguing storyline. It will definitely have you flipping those pages as you go on a roller coaster ride.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for creating this exciting story. I will be looking out for more books by this great author.

The above review has already been placed on goodreads, waterstones, Google books, Barnes&noble, kobo, amazon UK where found and my blog yesterday https://ladyreading365.wixsite.com/website/post/one-of-the-girls-by-lucy-clarke-harpercollins-4-star either under my name or ladyreading365

I listened to the Audible version and loved the narrator! She did a great job 😊

The storyline started out fairly slowly and I knew what was going to happen from the start..until I didn’t! 🤣🤣 I really enjoyed this one, especially the relationships between the girls on the hen weekend.
Not my usual genre but I’d definitely check out more of Lucy’s stories

Absolutely loved this thriller! Six hens travel to a villa in a remote part of a Greek island for a mini break hen party. At the beginning it is revealed that someone is killed, and then we go back to the arrival of the hens at the villa and take the story from there. The six hens are very different, and very interesting.

Lexi is the bride to be, she's reformed her party girl ways and is engaged to calm, possibly even slightly boring, Ed. Bella is her self-proclaimed best friend - attention seeker and clinging on to her youth. Robyn is the third wheel of their friendship from school days, but now a single mum living with her parents she has lost herself a little. Ana is the new friend, one that Lexi met at yoga, and formed an instant bond with. Eleanor is the sister of Lexi's fiance, a bit of an outsider, unaware of social norms. And finally Fen, the girlfriend of Bella, whose Aunt owns the villa and who has history on the island.

The entire way through the tension gradually builds as secrets are revealed and lies exposed. It is unclear right to the end who dies, and whose fault it was. The pace picks up near the end as the tangled webs each of the hens has weaved become clear.

I loved this book and couldn't wait to keep going back to it for the next few chapters. Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

'One of the Girls' centres around six young women, all with their own secrets and agendas, travelling to a Greek island for a hen 'do'. What could possibly go wrong?!
The book starts off a little slowly as we are introduced to all the different characters ( some more interesting and intriguing than others) but picks up pace as secrets are uncovered, group dynamics come into play, twists and turns develop and a murder takes place!
The Greek island setting is beautifully portrayed and facilitates a great sense of escapism.
Whilst I didn't particularly warm to many of the characters, finding them a bit too superficial, I was gripped until the end and intrigued to discover which member of the group died and who the murderer was.
Overall an entertaining read, ideal for the beach.
I am grateful to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced reader copy of this book.

Lucy Clarke is an underrated giant of the ~thriller you’d buy at Tesco for £4~ genre. I listened to this audiobook over several consecutive mornings as I drove to work at 04:00, and felt like I really grew close to these characters. The ramping up of tension throughout made me almost (almost!) look forward to my very early starts and the time I’d spend listening to this hen party unravel. Another stonker from Lucy Clarke, and long may she continue.

This is my first Lucy Clarke book and was looking forward to listening. It was classed as a "thriller" but I don't think it was that at all - it was more a modern fiction? Either way, I enjoyed it.
It gave me Lucy Foley vibes in how it changed between each character per chapter and I really did like how the characters were woven together in ways you don't know as the reader until later on in the book.
Overall I did find the first 50% a little bit slow but really enjoyed as the book progressed.

Thriller set on fictional Aegos in the Aegean Sea

Six women – ‘hens’ – descend on the fictional island of Aegos in the Aegean Sea to celebrate Lexi’s upcoming marriage to Ed. I often balk at this number of protagonists brought together in the early stages of a novel, I fear I might not get hold of their individual personalities and they might blur, but the author gradually lays full foundations for her characters and they do all stick in the mind and feel individual.

They are staying in a villa which has been loaned to them, and of course as they mix and spend time together, it is clear there will be some tensions but perhaps some fun over the holiday. It is tricky when a person’s friendship groups are thrown together because it is not a given that everyone will necessarily get on. Lexi has invited her older friends, and a yoga teacher, whom she has recently met and Ed’s sister has joined them too.

Whilst the reader is getting to know the women, the storyline feels perhaps a little slow but once the group is established, it starts to bowl along nicely. Of course there are secrets and histories that infiltrate the proceedings and there is a voice that indicates that things will not end well. But who is going to succumb, and just what will happen?

Tension is kept taut and the author tells her story in a clear and enticing way. The backdrop of Greece, and the villa teetering on the edge of the cliff adds a frisson of heat and fear as the women bond and spend time together. Perhaps not a novel to read if you are going on a hen weekend but ok, good to read if you are heading for Greece as it will get you in the mood for some retsina, dolmades and greek salad!

Really enjoyed the narration and slow build of this audio thriller. Six women are together on a hen holiday to celebrate Lexi’s forthcoming wedding. Friends old and new with many secrets between them. The idyllic Greek setting was beautifully described.

Narrators 5 stars stars
Great voice. Did a fantastic job with the characters

Story 3 stars
This was a really good drama. The characters were really interesting and very fascinating back stories. I really enjoyed this 100 times more than Castaways.

However... If I had brought this under the Thriller section from Audible I would have returned it because it definitely wasn't a thriller. In my opinion it was a contemporary drama. And it was really good as that.
