A hen party set on a Greek island! Sounds idyllic?? Heavenly descriptions of scenery and oceans and Greek markets - I was almost planning a trip there myself. But it turns out this party isn’t quite what a Hen party should be. Six friends plus a juicy twisty storyline from veteran writer Lucy Clarke and we have the perfect audiobook to take on holiday with you and be immersed in! Great escapism and smartly narrated by Natalie Simpson and Sofia Zervudacki. Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for my gifted copy.

This was enjoyable but I can’t say I was a huge fan. I found it slow to get into and couldn’t find a connection with any of the characters.

So started of slow and I thought not yet another of this genre but once it going it got much better and part of the fun was working on how it would all fit together. Not going to go into more details to prevent spoilers, and for my the ending was a bit meh.

Overall it was a pleasant way to spend time and did enjoy it. I loved the different voices

I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers and the review is entirely my own.

I enjoyed The Castaways by Lucy but I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this book so much. I found the characters annoying and there was too much tooing and froing between who we were hearing from for me to really engage. Good thriller however so I'm sure some people will like it.

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Audio UK for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I think I am possibly the last person on the planet to read a @lucyclarke_author book... Lucy wrote You Let Me In and The Castaways which I've had on my TBR for one too many months and I've heard nothing but amazing things. When I received the audio of #OneOfTheGirls I was immediately drawn in by the tag line:
One of us is a liar.
One of us is a stranger.
One of us is a cheater.
But who could be a killer?

Who wouldn't be drawn in by that? I certainly was!
In the past year, I've read quite a few holiday based thrillers including Andi Bart's #We WereNeverHere (which I thoroughly enjoyed so I was so pleasantly surprised that Lucy's take on a holiday-gone-wrong theme. I would also go as far as saying it might be one of my favourites.
One thing Lucy does well is character development, considering there were so many key characters in this book, she effectively developed each character's backstory perfectly. Seeing how they all interact, their view on the friendships and their secrets gave such a relatable and realistic view of all the girls.
I was gripped from the first chapter and the whole way through I was never bored, I was kept constantly guessing on what direction it was going in right until the final portion of the book.
How the book ended was the perfect conclusion after the high climax of the book, the final portion was well paced and all loose ends were tied up.

**Listened to the audio book**

This book was OK - but felt like many others I have read in a similar setting - there was nothing original about this!
I loved the narrator, but it's a shame the plot just didn't keep me gripped.
I felt like I had read it all before.

A group of 6 women get together for a hen party on a Greek holiday. We know from the prologue and the short inter-chapters that someone dies, so from the beginning the readers ask themselves not only who committed the murder but who was murdered.

The story gets off to rather a slow start and the pace only really picks up in the final third of the book. However, the novel is beautifully written and brilliantly narrated, both the author and the narrator doing a good job of varying the six different voices in this story. There are also a number of good twists and this is a very enjoyable, quick summer read.

This was a slow paced easy read set on a Greek Island. Told from the point of view of each character. Really well developed characters with there own back stories and secrets that kept me interested. I enjoyed the narrators an found them engaging and it held my attention. Where I enjoyed the storyline I felt it dragged a bit without actually revealing anything until the end.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to #OneOfTheGirls

Intrigue and Frenemies and Secrets

🧡 We need a new name for this genre, for authors who plunder the depths of intriguing relationships and expose human fallibility in a big sticky web of misdirection. I speak of the Lisa Jewells, the Liane Moriartys and, yes, the Lucy Clarkes. Because this audiobook was a lot of fab things - more on this below - but it was not a mystery, and thriller doesn’t cover it. Thrillations? Liesological Fiction? It’s a work in progress…

💚 Now, onto our main motion pic. Were I on an aeroplane while listening to this, I would soon be dragged off for not abiding by the “turn off all electronics during takeoff” rule. I could not stop listening. I hung onto every titillating morsel. It’s an intoxicating mix of controversial characters, jealousy, lies and secrets,

🎧 Thoroughly enjoyed this sultry performance by Natalie Simpson and Sofia Zervudachi. Excellent character differentiation and got sucked right into the story.

OMG this is a page turning, heart stopping, at times terrifying but always fantastic thriller. If you are looking for a book you can pick up and get lost in and then realise 3 hours have gone by then this is the one. I adored it and will be buying a copy for my friend to take on holiday. A masterclass in how to write a novel that you can’t put down.

I really enjoyed this book, which is the story of Lexi and her hen holiday in Greece, with five of her friends. We are taken on a journey with the women, and shown a beautiful setting, fun holiday vibes, swimming pools galore, the hot sun, and amazing food and drink, which made it feel as though I was right there on the holiday with them soaking up the sun.

It was interesting finding out about each of the women, and their back stories. All was going swimmingly, until nearer the end of the book, when things started to turn a bit sinister. Here we find out the truth about certain people and lots of secrets are revealed.

I found the story, characters and the plot enjoyable, and although the book wasn't very fast paced, I enjoyed the holiday feeling, the mystery and suspense, and the women's fiction aspect of the book. I also thought the narrators were excellent.

This would make a good holiday read, to read on an aeroplane, in a hotel room or at the beach. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Fab fab fab! Well written and well thought out. I loved how each character had their own story and secrets. Lucy Clarke is one to watch for sure!

One of the Girls is set during Lexi Lowe's hen weekend on a Greek island. There are six or so women staying in a villa together and they each have their own secrets. We find out in the first chapter that someone dies; the book then sets out to uncover the womens' secrets before an explosive ending.

Having read a number of books with a similar premise, I had fairly low expectations of this book. When there are so many 'main' characters, I often get them muddled and it takes me a while to figure out who is who. However, although this story started slow, it soon picked up the pace and I was quickly hooked. All of the women narrate chapters and I really enjoyed how the story carried on, but from someone else's point of view. This also helped me get to grips with the characters from early on.

The characters are so well written and I enjoyed learning about all of them; the setting was perfect and the story full of twists and turns.

The ending was good, but it was almost a bit too 'cheesy' and perfect - that said, I did enjoy it and I love when a book ties up all the loose ends.

I really enjoyed this one and I whizzed through it.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review.

Immersive, Succinctly Narrated Suspense….
A sun soaked Greek island, a hen weekend, six people and way more secrets than anyone will admit to. This audio version does due justice to a delicious plot populated with cast of wholly credible characters, an equally credible and compelling narrative and twists aplenty making this an immersive and succinctly narrated, perfectly nuanced suspense with a fabulously descriptive backdrop. Bravo!

Lexi and her friends are off to the Greek Islands for her hen weekend. Six women and some determined that Lexi's upcoming nuptials never happen.

With a beautiful setting as this one you get sucked in immediately. The Island gives you that perfect setting for this thriller to unfold.

We get to know each character really well. Robyn was very dull in the beginning but really broke out of her shell towards the end. Although Bella's intentions were always good I found her to be extremely self centered.

I found the writing and plot likeable with little hidden secrets and with a good solid twist this was a very enjoyable book!

Thank you Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for this ARC.

This was an entertaining audio book. It’s a whodunnit that had me hooked. Some red herrings I guessed before they were revealed some I didn’t. This would be a good summer read.

This is a fantastically written, and narrated, work of modern fiction.

Former dancer, current yoga teacher, and all-round fabulous person,Lexi, finds herself engaged to Ed, and on a Hen weekend in Greece with various friends, both recent and from her childhood, All these women have a powerful back story that is beautifully and tantalisingly revealed as the novel unfolds. From the 'blurb' we know that there will be a death, by a less than natural means at some point on the weekend, and as stories unfold, we are left wondering who and when this will occur. I can honestly say I did not predict the victim, timing or motive, kudos to the author for hitting the unpredictable button so accurately!!

This is a superb listen that I cant recommend enough!

My thanks to NetGalley, author, narrators and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.
