How do you talk to children about mental health? This is a question I've asked myself many times, and this book offers at least one answer to that question. A gorgeously illustrated book, it explores people throughout history with mental health conditions. These include Leonardo da Vinci, Isaac Newton, and Greta Thunberg.

Davis clearly did the research, and acknowledges that it is difficult to diagnose historic figures retrospectively. However, what is clear from each chapter is that these are persons are neurodivergent - and yet have been some of our best creatives, scientists, and activists.

How do you talk to children about mental health? Tenderly, and with great empathy. One book will never be the whole answer, but it certainly will help.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to revive an arc in exchange for my honest review- all thoughts and opinions are my own!

I am continuously amazed at kids’ books now. 2022 kids get all the cool things. As a mama to a kiddo who has already had to go to therapy- I know that mental health and awareness needs to start EARLY. Seeing celebs that might deal with similar things while maintaining a successful career or pulling out of the public eye to show that mental health is the best kind of health- important. This book was so great- we loved the illustrations, the info wasn’t overwhelming but enough to retain and enough to ask and answer questions. 10/10 would recommend!

A Mind Like Mine features many stories of famous people who have a mental illness. The book also features thorough descriptions of many kinds of mental disorders, as well as treatment options. I think this would be best for an older middle-schooler, or a high-schooler.

OCD, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety. The right spotlights are on to help us understand these mental health conditions with examples of popular personalities. This is not a way to put glamour on these conditions but I know we take more interest when a name or a face we are familiar with is attached to it. Being honest here and I feel the book is not an encouragement for any unwanted reactions towards these personalities and the publishing team.

I absolutely adore the presentation and the illustrations! An absolute must read!

Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions, for the advance reading copy.
