This was a brilliant audiobook to listen to. I have recently read the Fjallbacka books, the Gilded Cage and Silver Tears and looked forward to this latest offering.
This is a long book, but don’t allow that to put you off. Mina is a detective with many interesting character quirks! Vincent Walder - a mentalist who becomes involved in the case Mina is investigating. Many twists and turns along the way, including flashback chapters that seemingly don’t make sense at first.

With thanks to the authors, publishers HarperCollins UK Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

This has without doubt one of the best opening sequences I have seen in a book in quite a while, a little difficult to listen to in some regards, but an explosive start to the story nonetheless. The book had a very engaging storyline and, despite it being quite a long audiobook (approx 18 hours), I never found my attention drifting and always wanted to keep listening to find out who the killer was, and the reveal at the end certainly did not disappoint.

I really enjoyed the dialog between the characters, which was so witty and funny in places. Each member of the investigation team was really well fleshed, each with their plus points and with their flaws. The OCD behaviour patterns of both Mina and Vincent were also quite amusing in places, but were also used very touchingly in other interactions between the two characters to highlight their growing admiration and affection for each other.

Special mention also to the narrator Helen Keeley, who did a wonderful job voicing the array of characters in the book, and really enhanced my enjoyment of it.

The detail the authors go into in relation to both the criminal aspects of the story as well as the various magic tricks that are referenced was also quite extraordinary, while the alphabetical and numerical puzzles and their explanations involved in the solving of the case were fascinating. It was no surprise to hear in the afterword by the authors in the audiobook that they had employed the services of some of the foremost experts in those fields when writing the book, and it really shows in the finished work.

The authors also mentioned a second instalment in that afterword, and I for one absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on it!

A shocking murder…
It’s a case unlike anything detective Mina Dabiri has seen before. A woman trapped inside a magician’s box, with swords pierced through. But this time, it’s not a magic trick. It’s murder.

A case which twists and turns…
Knowing she has a terrifying killer on her hands, Mina enlists the help of celebrity mentalist, Vincent Walder. Only he can give her an insight into the secret world of magic and illusions.

A ticking clock to stop a serial killer…
Mina and Vincent soon discover that the murder victim has the roman numeral III engraved on her leg. The killer is counting down. There are going to be three more murders. And time is running out to stop them.

This thriller was just amazing on audiobook!

Nordic Noir has always been a hit or miss for me: Never in between.
And I think this one is a 'miss' :(
It failed to impress me or keep me engaged.

What a thriller! You really have to strap in and enjoy the ride!

Trapped was my first Camilla Lackberg & Henrick Fexeus book and it certainly won’t be my last.

I have to say that the opening was rather terrifying and I wasn’t sure whether I’d continue with the book. But, I was quickly drawn into the the investigation and the partnership between police detective Mina and Vincent the mentalist, both of whom are quite enigmatic in their own ways.

A special mention must be made about Helen Keeley who was a fantastic narrator. This was the longest audiobook that I’ve listened to - coming in at just under eighteen and a half hours - but the narrator made the book so engaging that I just kept wanting to listen to more and more chapters and found that I’d actually raced through the book.

Huge thanks to Netgalley and the publishers, HarperCollins UK Audio, for making this audiobook available to me for a fair and honest review.

What a fantastic thriller! This was actually only the second book I've read from Camilla Lackberg and it just reminded me what I was missing out on. Great narrator too. Highly recommend!

When a woman is discovered killed in a magician’s box with swords penetrating the body, Detective Mina Dabiri calls upon ‘mentalist’ Vincent Walden for insight on the case. The another body is found in a similar magicians prop and they then discover markings on the bodies that could prove important. A labyrinth of a story winding between past and present, revealing details of Vincent’s past that he has tried desperately to distance himself from.
An intriguing storyline with well thought out twists. You learn a lot about the characters and their past and what makes them tick now and the eccentricities that surround them. Overall a long, but enjoyable read.

Read it! Listen to it! Just get it! Amazing! A truly wonderfully written book with so much depth with the characters well defined and developed.

Beware! I'm not sure if it's just my level of tolerance but I found this book just too much to manage with any sense of enjoyment. The start is truly horrific and did not help my sleep.
Moving on, the characters were complex and well thought out. There we no really ordinary people. It made me consider that myself and my friends are dull and ordinary in comparison but I think I prefer real life to be that way.
This is a full on story based mainly on psychology and characterisation. Well researched but the violence and bad language throughout meant that I did not enjoy it.

Not an easy read by any means. Gore a plenty and so many very oddball characters I struggled to name any one that could be classed as normal. An unlikely plot but the end did justify some of what seemed like tenacious links as you listened. The choice of narrator was very poor and put me off to a large degree. I’m sure with another book she would be fine but her voice didn’t suit this one.

Trapped is a Swedish novel that tells the story of Detective Mina Dabiri who is working on solving a case involving a woman killed in a magician's box, pierced with swords. Mina and her team soon enlist the help of famous mentalist, Vincent Walder. As more bodies appear, it becomes clear that they are dealing with a serial killer, but could it be someone closer to home than they first thought?

This the longest book I have read for a while, the audiobook was over 18 hours long; that's not necessarily a problem, I'm just not used to books taking me so long to get through! There were times when my attention wandered slightly, but overall I was gripped, with some parts of the story being utterly chilling.

The book was well written and I liked learning more about the characters. The premise was different to anything I have read before and I very much enjoyed the storyline. The authors have made it clear there will be a follow up to this book and, whilst I'll look forward to it, I think I'll stick to the audiobook version.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for sending me an ARC in return for an honest review.

Yes it was long but after listening to it I was trying to work out what they could cut as it all seemed to work. The research that went into this book was intense and it showed through. I really did enjoy it. The narration suited the story. I haven't read a book by this author in years and it was like putting on a comfortable skandi blanket she always delivers. The partnership works so well. Now I need to read/listen more to these two.

I was given a free copy of the audio book by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

A horrific murder where a woman has be found inside a magicians box pierced by swords. Min Dabiri believes that the mentalist Vincent Walter will be able to assist with the investigation and asks him for help. However, no sooner as they have started investigating the first murder another occurs in the same strange way. There seems to be a pattern and a count down; who will be next and will Mina and Vincent be able to stop them.

I both read an listened to this book and I loved both. The story with the strange murders and Vincent with his mentalist skills as well as his and Mina's personalities meant that I was gripped. As soon as I finished I felt like I could have read about another series of murders where they hopefully would be working together again. The book was gripping and easy to read and the narrator for the audiobook was engaging and interesting to listen to.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review

I was glued to my audio book from the very beginning and even my husband enjoyed listening to this as well.
This new book by Camilla Läckberg, Henrik Fexeus had lots of great twists and turns that will have you sitting on the edge of your chair and it will also give you goose bumps!

When a shocking murder of young single mum called Tova, was found trapped inside a magicians box and pierced with swords, But this time, it’s not a magic trick. It’s murder.

There are no clues of how she got there. Germaphobe Detective Mina Dabiri. has been called in lead the case. Knowing she has a terrifying killer on her hands she needs help and guidance. So she consults with master mentalist Vincent Walder to give insights into his magical world.
