This is a relatively slow thriller documenting the disappearance of a journalist - it has atmosphere and the present tense narration helps to build the suspense, which is good, but overall it just doesn't hit as hard as others in the genre.

The first half of this book is so slow. The pace picks up around the 60% mark. I felt the narrative was quite repetitive. It was also a little bit too predictable for me

The story is set in a small town where a series of disappearances have occurred and it starts with the latest disappearance and works back and the mystery that revolves around them.
Great characters in the book and although a bit slo to start with, the pace picks up and has you turning the pages to see what happens.
Not read a book by Megan Miranda, but will go back to read some of her earlier novels.

People are disappearing from a small Appalachian town. A slow moving thriller full of secrets and lies, which gathers pace towards the end.

This book was written really interestingly, it starts with the last disappearance and then works backwards whereas most others would start the other way around so that immediately gives this book an edge! The setting was incredible and I think the atmosphere, tension and chills really fed through that. A good mystery and some good thrills throughout, always enjoy a Megan Miranda book!

not for me but I think others could love this book I just didn't connect with the writing style of this book

In my opinion this is Megan Miranda's best book yet!

The beautiful yet eerie setting of the town really sets the tone of the book, even in parts which weren't overly suspensful I felt on edge.

It’s a slow burn, but I was totally gripped from cover to cover. Throughout the book there were a few things that I picked up on but the twist had me absolutely dumbfounded! My jaw was on the floor!

I'd love to see this book brought onto the screen!

I’ve read quite a few books by the author and while some were great for my tastes, some felt too over the top. Last to vanish is definitely one that goes in the great category.

If I were to see news in a magazine or tv about some cold cases of disappearance, I would be intrigued to discover what's happening there. The author has created a perfectly balanced story with likeable characters and many suspenseful moments. The overall intrigue had me gripping my kindle at all times. We slowly learn about the lives of people who disappear over the time and what they other locals are remembering. Some aren't exactly what you may think, and others are hiding secrets.

The ending felt rushed though and something was revealed in a way that I personally would need more development.

It is a great mystery thriller that lovers of the genre will enjoy.

🆓📖 Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley

The Last To Vanish by Megan Miranda.
Will the dark secrets of a small mountain town finally be revealed? Ten years ago, Abigail Lovett fell into a job she loves, working at the Passage Inn, nestled in the resort town of Cutter's Pass, just off the Appalachian Trail. Now, the string of unsolved disappearances that haunts the town is again thrust into the spotlight when Landon West, a journalist investigating the story, himself disappears. Abigail still feels like an outsider within the community she now calls home, and when Landon's brother shows up to look for him, she senses the town closing ranks. Then she finds incriminating evidence that may finally bring the truth to light and discovers how little she knows about her co-workers, neighbours, and even those closest to her...
A really good read. Great story and characters. 4*.

This is the second book I read from this author and unfortunately it didn’t grabbed me as the previous one. The first half of the book was really slow and not many interesting things happened to keep the reader’s interest. Luckily, I didn’t give up on it and the second half was much more engaging and exciting. Overall it was a good book but not a must read in my opinion.

I’ve been making my way slowly through all of Megan’s books and I am loving this journey! The Last to Vanish is definitely my favourite so far! I stayed up way too late reading this one because I just HAD to know what happened. I liked the little twist at the end because I definitely didn’t see it coming!

The Last To Vanish is set in a small town along the Appalachian Trail in the North Carolina mountains. In the resort town of Cutter’s Pass there, Abigail Lovett manages The Passage Inn, where journalist, Landon West is staying. Then he vanishes. Prior to this, there has been a procession of other disappearances. The author excels with some beautiful descriptions of the locale. The characters are also well fleshed out making the reader need to read another chapter. Though the beginning of the book starts off fairly slowly, the momentum and intrigue build resulting in a fascinating, extremely atmospheric thriller. Well worth a look.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Corvus via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

A slow burn mystery that kept me reading because I liked the plot and the vivid descriptions of the setting.
I wasn't a fan of the MC that I found a bit bland but i appreciated the dynamics of the small town.
I liked it but it's not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I haven't read a Megan Miranda book in years; not since her first foray into YA thrillers. I really wasn't a
fan back then, but ever since I have heard great things about her writing. The synopsis of The Last to
Vanish caught my eye because I read that it was about hikers who go missing. As an avid hiker myself, I
was immediately intrigued.

The most notable aspect of The Last to Vanish is the overall atmosphere of the book. It's set in a small,
dreary town along the Appalachian Trail, which has a small and tight knit community. While reading I
really felt like I was there, staying in one of the cabins and prepping for a hike into the mountains.
Reading The Last to Vanish felt like being in nature, which was a feeling I loved.

The main character feels like a complete outsider, and being from a small village myself I have met
people who have felt like that before. She's trying desperately to feel like part of the community that she
has lived alongside for the past decade. I really enjoyed her journey, as she slowly came to realise that
she was being accepted.

I have to say, though, that the main character has absolutely no personality. I couldn't tell you a thing
about her other than she had some worries about where her place was in the town. The author mostly
keeps her background a secret, and I think that contributed to her being the blandest thriller character.
But you know what? I didn't care, because I was too invested in the setting and the atmosphere to give a
damn.

The revelations and resolutions of the plot were good enough. I had called one part of it, but the others
bits of the story surprised me. I don't think these "other bits" were particularly well fleshed out, but they
didn't come out of left field or anything.

I'm mainly just here to gush about the atmosphere and the concept of hikers going missing in the
mountains. More thrillers should cover this topic! Give me all of them! I've realised that this is perhaps my
ideal niche, and now I can't get enough.

This has everything you want for a gripping summer read!

I've always enjoyed reading Megan Miranda's mystery novels. She is one of those authors who is consistently good, and The Last to Vanish is no exception.

The resort town of Cutter's Pass, just off the Appalachian Trail, has become notorious for a string of unsolved disappearances. Abigail works at the Passage Inn, where some of the missing people were last seen. It's a job she loves but she still doesn't feel fully accepted by the locals. When Trey West turns up to investigate his brother's disappearance, Abigail can sense the town closing ranks. Perhaps if she helps him, he'll leave and everything will return to normal? Maybe, maybe not - but is she prepared for what she is about to discover?

The Last to Vanish is a slow burn murder mystery. I loved the descriptions of the area and how Abigail feels like an outsider. Bit by bit we learn more about the people who disappeared, and their reasons for visiting Cutter's Pass, and more about the townsfolk and why they are so close-knit. There are some jaw-dropping twists, although one of these, towards the end, was in the form of undisclosed information, which I always feel is a bit of a cheat!

An enjoyable read, which should appeal to authors such as Julia Heaberlin, Ruth Ware and Lisa Jewell.

Thank you to Megan Miranda and Corvus for my copy of this book, which I requested via NetGalley and reviewed voluntarily.

With the disappearance of a journalist investigating a string of vanishings, the resort town of Cutter's Pass is once again thrust into the spotlight.

Will the dark secrets of a small mountain town finally be revealed?
The story itself was also even more interesting than I had anticipated. This book keeps you guessing until the very end.
It’s very well written and definitely worth a read.

My previous experience reading a Megan Miranda novel was a little mixed but this one was much better. A good eerie thriller with some very interesting characters.

Abigail Lovett started working at the Passage Inn ten years ago, and could not be happier. The Passage Inn is in the resort town of Cutter’s Pass, just off the Appalachian Trail. Recently there have been a sequence of unsolved disappearances that is causing a lot of attention. This is heightened when a journalist named Landon West who is investigating the story, himself disappears.

Abigail has never really felt part of the local community even though it is now home. When the missing journalists brother arrives at the Passage Inn she senses the locals are closing ranks even more. Abigail uncovers incriminating evidence that she feels will explain the strange goings on which is likely to upset the locals and people close to her.

This was a good solid read that managed to hold an eerie atmosphere throughout.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Atlanta Books for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book that I have read by Megan Miranda and it certainly will not be the last. There is so much tension and edge of your seat moments running throughout the book. Lots of read hearings to that will leave you guess up until the point that the truth is revealed a really well written enjoyable read.
