Chrissie Walsh takes you right into the hearts and minds of the residents of Weaver Street in Welcome to Weaver Street, the first in her series following the lives of the residents during World War 1.

The characters, are well rounded, mostly likeable but above all believable. This story makes you understand what life was like during the war.

The first book in a new saga series. Kitty and Tom Conlon arrive in Liverpool in July 1916 to claim the house Tom’s great-uncle has bequeathed him in his will. The move to England couldn’t have come at a better time. Dublin is in turmoil following the Easter Uprising and Kitty’s brother is now in prison.

The house in Weaver Street is all they hoped for, and after a shaky start with her new neighbours, Kitty believes the world is her oyster. Until that is, Tom is conscripted into the navy.

With Tom away, it’s up to Kitty and the women of Weaver Street to get each other through the war.

This was a great start to a new series. I loved getting to know all the characters. The story developed really well as the story progresses. It’s an easy read but definitely one for fans of saga fiction. I look forward to the next book in this series.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I was able to find the audio version through my local library. I really enjoyed this novel. I have been tired if listening about war novels that talk about seeing blood shed and in the middle of it. Even though I enjoy those books they get depressing. I really enjoyed this novel because it is about group of women who live in a small town and even though they talk about the war it is more about what they are doing as neighbors etc.
I will say though that it was pretty feminist to the point where I rolled my eyes. I just don't think all the women would happen to have horrible husbands that treated them horrible and abuse them etc.

But all in all I really enjoyed the book and would read from this author again.

Chrissie Walsh’s Welcome to Weaver Street is a poignant saga about community, friendship and love written straight from the heart.

Dublin no longer feels like home for Tom and Kitty Conlon. With the Easter Uprising having left Ireland in turmoil and Kitty’s brother in prison, the family are desperate to start again and a move to Liverpool is the break they have been desperate for. With Tom’s great-uncle having left him a house on Weaver Street, Tom and Kitty cannot wait to leave their past behind and start afresh in Liverpool.

Their new house is everything Kitty and Tom were hoping for. Although their new neighbours haven’t exactly welcomed them with open arms, Kitty refuses to let anything put a dampener on her enthusiasm. At long last, she and Tom can have the life they’ve always wanted and Kitty is determined that nothing and nobody is going to come between her and her hopes and dreams for the future – until Tom is conscripted in the Navy.

Kitty is absolutely heartbroken. Devastated and worried sick about what might happen to Tom, Kitty doesn’t know which way to turn. Yet, little does she realise that the women of Weaver Street are about to rally round her and show her that with resilience and courage, Kitty can get through anything.

Fans of Nancy Revell and Rosie Clarke are going to love Welcome to Weaver Street. Chrissie Walsh is a wonderful writer who brings the past to life and will make readers feel as if they are living the story and not just reading it. Her characters are strong and resourceful protagonists who find themselves with no other choice but to battle against all the obstacles in their way.

Heartfelt, engrossing and dramatic, Welcome to Weaver Street is an emotionally satisfying Liverpool saga from fast-rising star Chrissie Walsh.

What starts as an adventure to see what an unexpected inheritance may hold, turns into a life path of challenges that will forever change their lives.

Kitty and Tom are a newly wed couple. They have hopes, they have dreams, they have desires, but above all...they have each other, and with young love, that's more than enough. When a relative of Tom's passes, he gains the deed for an unexpected dwelling...and upon deciding to investigate things in person, they set themselves on a new path they could never have foreseen. Strangers in a strange town, but a step above that because there's a war going on and their accents set them apart from the local scene...and not in a good way. There are plenty that voice their opinions and several that have what they consider good reasons for the way they act, but in the end, they're prejudice against them both is not their undoing. No that is brought on by themselves in the distance they allow to grow between them, the pride they let get in the way of necessity, the honesty that flees in the face of lies, and the trust that is broken beyond repair. How and when is along the way...but in the end, a comeuppance comes, and despite being dark, despite being gruesome, despite being wrong on several levels, it fits rather right with all that transpired.

So take a journey far from home to a place that could be paradise...if only we aren't blinded by all that glitters to the things and PEOPLE that are most important.

What a wonderful book and so pleased it is part of a series I look forward to reading the next book.

Kitty & Tom Conlon move from Ireland to Liverpool as they have inherited an house. We see how their lives go. Kitty makes friends with the neighbours especially Maggie who seems quite hard but is nice underneath and Beth who has no friends and her Father is not very nice to her.

We see the ups and downs with birth, marriages and deaths of their lives.

It is a well written book and the characters work well together.

Look forward to reading the next book.

Would recommend this book.

What a lovely book the story flowed beautifully. The characters were introduced slowly so as not to confuse the reader and they all brought something different to the book.

Kitty Conlon is the strong main character of the book, coming over from Ireland to Liverpool with her husband they move into a house in Weaver Street that has been bequeathed to her husband Tom by a great uncle.

The book holds births, death, and marriages but are not too overbearing and add to the story.

We then meet Maddie Who is my favorite character she's hilarious and doesn't give a stuff about what she says, does, or wears, and gentle Beth who is frightened of her bullying father.
With other characters that pop in and out, this delightful book will fill you with warmth hope, and emotion.
I really did enjoy this story and will look out for other books written by Chrissie Walsh.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. xx

A great first instalment for a new saga series.
Kitty and Tom arrive in Liverpool from Ireland, at first it’s a mixed welcome from the Weaver Street residents.
I personally love a saga book and more so when it is a series as I like coming back to well loved characters, Kitty, Maggie and Beth make a great trio and I can’t wait to see how each of their stories progress over this new series.
Welcome to Weaver Street has it all, love, laughs, heartbreak and joy.
This is my first saga book from Chrissie Walsh, I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next instalment of the series.

I really enjoyed welcome to weaver street, a book with a great story and wonderful characters. Kitty and Tom travel to Liverpool from Dublin, to start their new lives in home left to them by toms uncle. Kitty quickly befriends Maggie and Beth and a true friendship begins, just as Kitty’s marriage and life starts to unravel. A wonderful tale of love lost and lives been rebuilt. Definitely worth the 5 stars.

I love wartime sagas and really enjoyed this one. very much. This was typical of the lifestyle during WW1 and the friendly helpful people who lived at that time. Well worth 5 stars, I enjoyed this very much and I hope there will be more books to come in a series of this period.

Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC

I can't resist a saga and this was just wonderful. The characters are so warm, lively, real and the writing just transports you to that time. I adored Kitty and her gentle but feisty attitude. Her bravery in making a home in a new place, especially being Irish and dealing with the prejudices that brought at the time. It made me smile how house-proud she was, it reminded me of my Great Gran who would scrub the front doorstep so the neighbours knew she kept a clean house 😊
The time period seemed well researched and it was interesting to read some of the jobs women did during the war. The time period obviously adds a darker, grittier side to the story but the characters are so wonderfully warm it definitely lightens that.
This was my first book by Chrissie Walsh but I'm definitely looking forward to more, especially from the residents of Weaver Street.

In July 1916 newly married Kitty and Tom Conlon arrive in Liverpool to take possession of a house left to Tom by an old uncle. They come over from Ireland in the hope of a better future away from the fighting in Dublin. They are excited by the opportunity to live in their own house, and also glad to escape all the troubles in Dublin brought on by the Easter Rising. World War I is also raging at the time. Kitty is determined to make the house a nice home for them and has dreams of a family.

Kitty is a great character, strong yet vulnerable, eager to make friends and to fit in. She meets the neighbours, some friendly, some not so much. Her Irish straightforwardness is brilliant and her friendship with Maggie and Beth is delightful.

I absolutely adored Kitty. I loved Kitty's character. She was feisty but big hearted and generous to a fault. Her strength, kindness and determination was admirable. Her neighbour, Maggie, who becomes a great friend is really amusing. She's solid, down to earth and speaks as she finds which makes for some very funny lines. She and Kitty are two different sides of a coin and like chalk and cheese.

There are a lot of wonderful characters along the way and l loved spending time with Kitty through the highs and the lows of life.

Tom, on the other hand, has a high opinion of himself. He is sure he can move in higher class circles and will do anything to get there. He is ambitious and tries to shake off his 'Irishness' which doesn't sit well with Kitty. Tom only seems to want more and more from life.

Welcome to Weaver Street is a lovely read. I love how the residents of Weaver Street worked together to help one another and I really enjoyed the friendships and interactions. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters that live in Weaver Street. It was really heart warming.

This is my first book by this author but it will not be my last. I will most definitely be reading other books from Chrissie Walsh. If you like this genre then you’ll definitely enjoy reading this book.
It was just brilliant! From the first page to the last I was completely enthralled. I highly recommend it!

Overall, it was a really enjoyable read.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an early copy of this book.

Set during and after WWI the story follows young couple Kitty and Tom who have fled Ireland for Liverpool to start their lives over.

I love this kind of read as you always get the community rallying together, their spirit not dampened by war. In Welcome to Weaver Street the characters are colourful, friendly and credible and I can't wait to get to know the other residents more.

The first in a promising new series which I'm looking forward to reading, it's well written, highly enjoyable and I read it in one sitting as it had me hooked from the start.

A highly emotional start to a promising new saga that I would recommend to any lover of historical fiction.

Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for my tour spot.

A delightful saga that is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming, we meet newly married couple Kitty and Tom Conlon as they arrive in Liverpool straight off the steam packet from Dublin. A month after their marriage, they received a letter from solicitors in Liverpool outlining that Tom had inherited a house on Weaver Street from his namesake and great uncle Thomas. At first he thought it was a mistake but after clarifying with the said solicitors, he was assured that he was no in possession the property. So with no real close family and in the wake of the unrest in Ireland following the Easter Rising, Kitty and Tom headed for Liverpool to start a new life.

They arrive tired and in need of some food and rest to take possession of the property by obtaining a key from the solicitors. Kitty is then determined to make them a nice home with dreams of a family, although she does get off to a rough start in the beginning. However she soon makes friends with her neighbour Maggie which will serve her well when Tom is suddenly conscripted into the Navy to fight for Britain in the Great War, leaving Kitty behind and somewhat alone. But Maggie soon soothes her with her friendship and wit, but she's also a down to earth character who speaks as she finds. Kitty and Maggie make an interesting pair as they like chalk and cheese in their differences but at the same time they complement each other.

It soon becomes clear that Tom has ideas above his station when he wants to rise above his upbringing and fancies himself becoming a rich toff. He starts a bookmaking business at the local pub, The Weavers Arms, refusing factory work thinking manual labour is beneath him while Kitty took work at a tea shop. Tom wasn't entirely likable and often took kindhearted Kitty for granted. But despite that she maintained a positive attitude.

Kitty was a wonderful character and I enjoyed her so much. She was kind and warm and the type of friend you would treasure if you found her. Tom not so much. Maggie was a real character despite their rocky start.

Some parts of the story I found a little slow going but I've also just come off reading a bunch of page-turning thrillers so this gentle easy read was somewhat tame by comparison...lol But I enjoyed WELCOME TO WEAVER STREET which I believe is my first read by Chrissie Walsh (though I do have several of her other books on my shelf somewhere). I was surprised, however, that the Spanish flu was just glossed over as it was such a big part of life at the time.

I hope this isn't our last visit to Weaver Street and will look forward to catching up with the friends and neighbours in the future...hopefully.

I would like to thank #ChrissieWalsh, #Netgalley, #BoldwoodBooks and #RachelsRandomResources for an ARC of #WelcomeToWeaverStreet in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in a new historical series by Chrissie Walsh. I had not read this author before but my love for series in a historical setting really drew me to the story.

Kitty and Tom Conlon young newlyweds arrive from Ireland to England in 1916 to claim a home on Weaver Street left to them by Tom’s great uncle. The couple are nervous and excited for what’s to come in their new home and neither of them could have predicted what would come next!

Kitty settled into life in England, creating a loving home for her and Tom. Kitty spends her days cleaning up the old house and making friends on the street. She thinks everything is going to plan until Tom is conscripted to the Navy to fight for the British. Having left Ireland to escape the turmoil there this was not what they had hoped.

Kitty spends a lonely year waiting for Tom and when he comes back, things aren’t quite the same. Tom never seems satisfied with his lot in life and is constantly looking for more…..

I really liked Kitty’s character and enjoyed her independence in a time that wasn’t always a place for women. I found there were parts where the story dragged a bit and likely didn’t need as much detail as was provided but still enjoyed it overall. I’m giving the one a 3.5 stars and will look forward to reading the next instalment of Weaver Street!
