A typical historical novel set in World War One and the aftermath. It is based on the trials and tribulations of a newly married Irish couple who have arrived in Liverpool to take possession of a house that has been left to them in a will. Kitty has a very friendly nature and soon fits in and finds friends among the neighbours, Tom, however, has ideas above his station and wants a lot more from life, this leads to huge problems in their relationship. I enjoyed the book and will definitely read more by this author.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Chrissie Walsh for the chance to read this ARC in return for an honest opinion.

I had not read anything by this author before but certainly will look out for more of her titles in the future.

This was the story of two young Irish people who inherited a house in Liverpool around the outbreak of WW1. Sadly the husband had ideas above his station and skills and caused his young wife and family heartbreak.

It was well written and kept me enthralled throughout - I couldn't wait to read the next chapter.

Thank you again for the chance to read and review this book

Kitty and Tom Conlon leave Dublin to start a new life on Weaver Street when Tom inherits a house from his uncle Thomas.
Tom spends his time searching for work. Kitty works her magic cleaning the house while winning her neighbours over at the same time (which is no easy job). The residents of the street show their community spirit for one another during the difficult times of the war.

I loved Kitty’s fighting spirit.

My first read by this author and I wasn't disappointed, loved the characters who live in weaver street and how much of a change it was for kitty who is originally from Ireland, despite her brash neighbours she becomes friends with them all and in times of need or just a moan they are there for each other, a lovely storyline and nicely written with a good cast of characters, could not put it down and really hope there is a follow on book to this one as I want to read what happens to kitty next

Just brilliant! From the first page to the last I was completely enthralled.
In July 1916 Kitty and Tom Conlon, newly married, arrive in Liverpool to take possession of a house, left to Tom by an old uncle. They are also glad to escape all the troubles in Dublin brought on by the Easter Rising. World War I is also raging at the time. Kitty is determined to make the house a nice home for them and has dreams of a family. Tom is ambitious and tries to shake off his 'Irishness' which doesn't sit well with Kitty.
I loved Kitty's character. She was feisty but big hearted and generous to a fault. Her neighbour, Maggie, who becomes a great friend, is a hoot. She's solid, down to earth and speaks as she finds which makes for some very funny lines. She and Kitty are two sides of a coin and chalk and cheese.
There are a lot of wonderful characters along the way and l loved spending time with Kitty through the highs and the lows of life.
I was surprised The Spanish Flu, which swept the world in the wake of the war, was glossed over as I was expecting it to play it's part in the story. It says it's the start of a new series so I'm hopeful I'll get to visit Weaver Street again.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I will most definitely be reading the others.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an early copy of this book.

Welcome To Weaver Street by Chrissie Walsh is a marvellous historical novel set during World War I and beyond in Liverpool.
The reader follows a newly married couple from Ireland as they land on the Liverpool docks in 1916. They are going to start a new life in England following the Easter Uprising in Ireland.
Residents of Weaver Street are a tight knit community and the couple receive a mixed welcome as personal history with the Irish colour’s some responses.
The leading lady has a warm personality, friendly nature and a kind heart which helps her to be accepted. She also has a core of resilience when life is hard. She is very much a modern woman of her time with an entrepreneurial spirit as she seeks to rise out of her roots of poverty.
Community life ensures that you are never alone. There is much support when it is needed as well as the gossip that spreads like wildfire. There is much generosity of spirit from sharing cups of tea to giving what is required to those who have little. The residents of Weaver Street function as one large family with varying personalities.
World War I opened up women’s lives as they took on traditional male roles as the men were away at the Front. Previously they had been at the beck and call of the men folk. “Your job is looking after me.” It is the women who show strength of character, unity and support, holding each other up as World War I gives opportunities and challenges.
The young men went off to war to be used as cannon fodder. Some did not return. Others returned but left their minds behind on the battlefields.
I really enjoyed my visit to Weaver Street and am very much looking forward to catching up with the residents in the future.
I received a free copy via Net Galley from the publishers for a blog tour with Rachel’s Random Resources. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

This is a new saga set in Liverpool starts in 1916 during ww1.
Tom and kitty come over from Ireland in hope of a better future away from the fighting in Dublin.
Follow them as they become part of a new community and follow Kitty as she learns to survive all the ups and downs when Tom is conscripted into the navy and she is on her own.
A good read from this new author for me and one I will follow with interest.

Welcome to Weaver Street by Chrissie Walsh

Kitty and Tom Conlon arrive in Liverpool in July 1916 to claim the house Tom’s great-uncle has bequeathed him in his will. The move to England couldn’t have come at a better time. Dublin is in turmoil following the Easter Uprising and Kitty’s brother is now in prison.
Newly wed , but not long together and excited by the opportunity to live in their own house , they decide to move over to Liverpool.
Kitty is a great character . strong yet vulnerable , eager to make friends and to fit in . She meets the neighbours , some friendly , some not so much.
Tom has a high opinion of himself , he is sure he can move in higher class circles and will do anything to get there.
I really enjoyed the book , and the friendships and interactions of the resident's of Weaver Street. The author brings alive the era and area.
