I was only going to give it 3.5 as I felt it was a bit stop start but when I thinkthe heroine is only 18 perhaps she's still maturing.

The hero was a bit of a broody archetype but the romance eventually got there. The main villain IMO deserved a more horrible end.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One Night with the Duke is a regency romance from one of my favourite authors. It was a surprise to see this different time period but what a wonderful surprise it turned out to be.
Eliza Melrose is the daughter of a printing magnet, though previously before her fathers great success they had led a simple life in the country, without the restrictions being imposed on Eliza now they are part of high society. She is less than pleased when she learns her father has arranged a marriage for her, she certainly does not wish this in fact even looking to her future, marriage not something she feel wants or needs.
She has an encounter with the Duke of Chester, Johnny, an exceptionally handsome man who has according to gossip killed his parents and set fire to their house which is across the street from Eliza’s. There is instant attraction between these two and Eliza suddenly realises that perhaps she’s not as adverse to marriage as she thought.
This story is entertaining and engrossing, romping along with humour, passion and sparkling dialogue, with a cast of well rounded characters good and evil.
A brilliant story, well written and page turning. I just hope it’s the first in a series and can’t wait for the next.
My thanks to net galley and publisher Orion for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
