Friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes but it easy to get wrong. Thankfully Booked on a Feeling falls short of any faux pas and hits the ball out of the park. Lizzy and Jack are a ridiculously cute couple, and I absolutely loved the bookstore revamp parts.

I LOVED this book so much, I've gone so far as to buy a physical copy.
Anything centred around books within a book is a definite for me and I was not disappointed.
Very interesting, romantic read 🥰

Booked on a Feeling follows Lizzy, an overachieving lawyer, who has accomplished two out of the three major goals in her life: become a lawyer & join a prestigious law firm. The last major career goal she would like to accomplish is to make partner at her firm. But after she passes out from a panic attack during a trial, she puts a pause on this life plan for three weeks to recharge and recover from being burnt out. She takes this time to head to Weldon, a small town in California where she spent her summers growing up where her best friend Jack lives.

Jack has been secretly in love with Lizzy for two decades, a secret he is determined to never let Lizzy uncover to protect their friendship. But when Lizzy decides to help revamp the local bookstore, it becomes harder for them both to ignore that what they feel for each other goes beyond friendship.

This book was overall such a cute childhood best friends to lovers book! It was a fun, easy read that I think many romance book lovers will also enjoy!

I had high hopes for this one because I love the concept but sadly that was not enough for me to keep reading it. I started getting bored halfway, and have decided not to continue on reading it. I find that the romance falls flat and that definitely puts me off on reading this.

What can I say... I'm a sucker for friends to lovers but it wasn't my favourite. It is a very cute read with lots of pining but it fell a little flat for me.

Lizzy's profession is a bit unbelievable at times because she acts extremely immaturely during certain parts of the book however one of the strong points of the book is her character development throughout.

I'll definitely give more books from Jayci Lee a read in the future.

I sadly could not get into this book. I really struggled with the main character and found myself having no interest in the story which sucks because I really liked the sound of this one!

Oh well, you win some and you lose some.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I always think that enemies to lovers is the superior trope, but then a book like this comes around and reminds me that actually, friends to lovers can not be beaten.

Jack and Lizzie were such amazing characters with SO MUCH chemistry and pining. I was rooting for them from the get go which is something I always look for in a romance. I also love books about books which was a huge draw in for me.

I also really appreciated the anxiety rep, it can be tough to write it in a relatable way for me, but I really connected to it.

I’m so glad I requested this one and I can’t wait to see what Jayci Lee comes out with next!

Lizzy Chung had her entire life planned out. She was going to make her parents proud, be successful, and live happily ever after. At least that was the plan. But plans go awry, and after a panic attack in court, she jumps in her car and heads to Weldon where she spent her childhood summers with her best friend, Jack Park.

Jack Park has had a crush on Lizzy for so long and is happy that he gets to spend three weeks with her. When Lizzy needs his help saving the local bookstore, he agrees and the sparks fly!

This was such a cute read!! It's about taking a risk and trying to be more with your friend and whether its worth the risk.

After an incident in her job, Lizzie takes some time out and goes to stay in a flat above a bookshop in the small town where her best friend Jack lives. He has always wanted to be more than friends, so is this their chance?
A great read, told from both points of view

A rich and vibrant romance that's a feast for all the senses. Fabulous well-drawn characters. Their emotions, their restlessness was all playing in front of me.

I received an electronic advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions. Thank you to Jayci Lee and Headline for allowing me to read Booked on a Feeling before it's release.

Booked on a feeling is an adorable friends to lovers book, featuring characters that love reading!

After an anxiety attack at work, lawyer Lizzy Chung has some thinking to do. With something clearly not right and in desperate need of a break for her mental health, Lizzy takes herself back to Weldon as she tries to work out what went wrong.

The best thing about Weldon? Her best friend Jack, who works for his family business. What she doesn't realise though, is that Jack is head over heels for her, and she just might feel the same way too. An opportunity to help out the local bookstore brings the two even closer together, as both Lizzy and Jack try to work out where their lives should go from there, while feeling the pressures of family on their shoulders.

Let me just say, though she wasn't in it that much, I hated Lizzy's mum with a passion. I really felt for Lizzy as she dealt with the expectations her mother had for her, and I loved seeing her grow as an individual throughout the book.

The romance between Lizzy and Jack was so sweet, and I was rooting for the two from the start. Thankfully the stakes were quite low in the way of obstacles, and the inclusion of the struggling bookstore was brilliant, and much more my pace compared to the Law firms!

It is the third book in the "A Sweet Mess" series, but I have not read the first two books and it can easily be read as a standalone as I did.

4⭐ A cute and cosy friends to lovers romance with cultural and mental health rep + Spice 👏

Happy Release Day!!

Thank you to netgalley and headline eternal for an eARC in return for an honest review.📖

As soon as I saw this book I KNEW I had to read it- I mean come on, it's a BOOKSTORE related romance, what's not to love?! This was my first book by the author and I've since found out that there are 2 books set before that follow the romances of side characters in this book. While I guess it's kind of spoilery to read this first, a HEA is kind of a given in a romance book so it isn't too suprising and I also didn't feel like I needed to have read the others to read and enjoy this one which was great (although I immediately added the other 2 to my tbr!)✨

Booked on a feeling is friends-to-lovers which was definitely a change of pace from my go to enemies-to-lovers but it felt like such a cosy, cute read and I liked the relationship between Lizzy & Jack. (Bonus points because Lizzy is a romance book heroine who loves romance books!)❤️

One of my favourite things about this was that it didn't just focus on the development of the romance but also on Lizzy & Jack's own self development and figuring out what it is they want as individuals, not just as a couple. 👏

Lizzy's anxiety and panic attacks felt relatable and real (we love aaccurate mental health rep in books!) and korean/american culture was a big part of the book- I always love reading romances that explore different cultures and how this shapes the characters and their journey to love. It's great to see representation and I enjoy learning more about other cultures this way!❤️

If you want a sweet, book themed romance with a friends-to-lovers romance with two pining idiots in love and where the guy falls first (like by 20 years!) then you should definitely give this a read (plus there's a lil bit of spice and a whole lot of sexual tension)✨

I feel like this book is more likely to appeal to people who generally enjoy the friends-to-lovers trope more than myself; it take a lot for this trope to take me pleasantly by surprise, so while I did enjoy this for the most part, I wasn't blown away by it. I did appreciate the mutual pining and yearning and the fear of breaking something that had been so precious for some long, but ultimately the romance development was simply too allo for my little ace self to be fully on board.
I thought the setting was what was the shining jewel of this - there is something and familiar about a small town setting and its charming little businesses. I am also, of course, partial to a bookshop that needs to be fixed and thus may become a local safe haven.
I thought the development of our two love interests as individuals was great ( particularly in the way it did something new and interesting with the small town/big city dynamic), and the resolution was loyal to the characters as we've grown to know them (althought, perhaps due to the focus and perspective, we get to see less of the male love interest's journey for the first half of the book than I would have preferred).
A quick, fun read, but not quite a newfound favourite.

Had to DNF this one as I wasn't able to get into it! Wouldn't say it was the book itself but I've just been in a big reading slump this month. I will leave a provisional rating for now but it doesn't truly reflect my opinions I may re-read and provide a better review. Thank you again for providing me with the e-ARC!

The story
Lizzy Chung is a 30 year old litigation attorney living in LA. When she wins her first court case where she is the lead, she expects this to bring her happiness. But the let down feeling is much stronger. She decides to take some leave and go stay in small-town Weldon and visit with her best friend Jack. He’s been in love with her for ages, but the three weeks holiday might just be what the two need to either get over each other (Jack hopes) or fall in love (Lizzy dreams). Can they find a way to make it work?

My thoughts
Friends to lovers can be a tricky trope as there is high chance of hitting the angsty danger zone of navel-gazing, only topped by lack of communication. This story veered towards both danger grounds, and although Lizzy and Jack were a cute couple, it just felt like there was a lot of repetition in the story. I enjoyed the bookstore revamp parts.

A little unrealistic and dragged out in certain parts
Lizzie was supposed to rest because of being burnt out, but instead she helps at the bookstore...
Although, apart from that I enjoyed it and I hope we get to hear Alex's story!
