Poetry isn't my usual go to, however I was intrigued by the topics of these poems and read them in one sitting.

Poetry isn't my usual go-to read. However, the title and description intrigued me, and I wasn't disappointed.

A warming collection of poems on various life topics were both humorous and enlightening.

Some of the poems were better than others.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher David Fickling Books for an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great read, digested it in one sitting! Such an easy book to follow, and did not want to put it down!

This was a great poetry book. I really enjoyed reading it. I liked the rhythm of the poems. I also loved the humour that was held within them. They really made me chuckle at times.  Mostly I loved the poems especially the section on children and the poem about what day of the week the children were born on so modern and true lol. Some poems were a little harder to understand especially as there were words I had never come across before so I definitely needed my dictionary to hand. This somewhat spoiled a few of the poems for me. There was one in another language and seen as though I couldn't read it I didn't see the point of it being there.

I have to say how much I loved the simple pictures that accompanied each poem they were great and really brought the poems to life and gave the poems that extra dimension. If you love rhythmic poetry,  learning new words, and trying different styles of poetry then this book is for you. I actually rated this book 3.5 stars rounded up as it was better than a 3 star rating but just a little off the 4 stars. As poetry is so very personal to each reader I always recommend trying a sample to see if this is a perfect fit for you.

Many thanks to the author and publishers for creating this enjoyable collection of poetry.  It was a great reading experience.

Some very relatable and humourous poems that are suitable for most people. They were beautifully written in an easily accessible way. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection and the illustrations were beautiful as well.

According to the blurb, this poetry collection from Nic Aubury is “a refreshingly honest and hilariously UNhelpful collection of original poems for those that worry they'll never be a proper adult.”

As someone who pretty much only reads deep poetry, I decided to give this poetry collection a try for a lighter, easier read. The majority of these poems rhyme, and they have relatable, humorous aspects to them. Rather than pushing you to better yourself, these poems tend to show you that it’s ok, other adults relate too to not feeling like a “proper adult”.

For me personally, I still prefer deeper poetry, but I can definitely see the draw, and I’m glad I gave it a go. Perhaps it’s because I require more of a relatable feel with other aspects of my life, such as mental health, where the poetry does tend to be deeper. I can actually imagine people not massively into poetry even enjoying this collection.

This is a witty and humorous collection of rhymes and poems. Nic Aubury describes his work as poems for people who don’t like poetry but I think even those who do like it will enjoy this too. Covering all sorts of adulting themes in funny ways you can’t help but nod along in agreement with a lot of it. The illustrations are spot on too and in their simplicity really add to the words. It reminded me a little of poems I learned as a child and partly of Pam Ayres work too.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"In a world of self-help and self-improvement, Ignore It All and Hope it Goes Away is a refreshingly honest and hilariously UNhelpful collection of original poems for those that worry they'll never be a proper adult."

I read this when I was having a bad day, and honestly, it is everything I needed to feel good about myself. This collection of poems is neither inspiring nor motivational, which I feel like we need more of haha. It is a great reminder that it is okay to be mediocre or to have mediocre days. My favourite poems from this collection are "scylla and charybdis", "the lesson", and "ambition / ambitioff". Overall, it is not pretentious, but still has lots of personality, so perfect for poetry beginners!

Thank you NetGalley and David Fickling Books for providing me a copy of Ignore it All and Hope it Goes Away.

I just loved this collection of poems, short and very witty. I laughed out loud at some of them and especially enjoyed the section on love. Brilliantly clever.

This book was a short but fun read. It’s not the kind of poetry I usually read but I’m glad I let myself be intrigued by the promise of “a poetry book for people who don’t like poetry”.
It was refreshing and quirky, a lot of the poems were highly relatable and I loved that, for once, this poetry book is not trying to help us better ourselves at all. None of it was helpful, but it was sometimes very cathartic, and the drawings really add the perfect amount of heart and oddness to the poems.
It wasn’t a life changing book, but if you’re looking for something that pushes you to embrace your antisocial and sarcastic ways, this is the book you’re looking for.

This is a really quirky book of poems.
They have real personality, and in most cases a bit of a dark sense of humour and very sarcastic.
I enjoyed the poetry here, and the little illustrations running through it added to the books quirky-ness.

Life is full of little irritations, obligations and uncertainties - things that make us all want to crawl under a duvet and hide. And here is the book to hide with!

An interesting mix of short poetry and longer style, a nice theme across the book, would also work as daily cards on a calendar or for an office! Some formatting issues for kindle but that can happen, a fun one to give someone who has just become “an adult” or feelings like they’re failing

A good collection of poems can make you feel a cluster of strong emotions, and sadly this collection only really managed to raise a gentle smile and a vague nod of agreement at various points. Maybe I was expecting something more chucklesome. It’s always a good endeavour to try something different as it may turn out to be a surprise that you wouldn’t normally select, so I’m glad I give it a go, but sadly this book didn’t wow me. However, I can see that it may appeal to others, and I definitely enjoyed the accompanying illustrations that were sprinkled throughout.

Ignore it All and Hope it Goes Away is a beautiful and relatable book of poetry. You'll see yourself in these poems and find yourself nodding your head along as if the words were taken right out of your mind. Highly recommended!

A book of poems for people who don't really enjoy poetry.

It's beautifully written, uncomplicated and unpretentious. Filled with relatable musings from everyday life, it's easy to read and a lot more personal than poetry I've read before.

.... And I usually hate poetry.
