Audrey is waiting to marry the lovely Josh, but her much married mother has planned the wedding and Audrey is wondering whether she is doing the right thing. When her perfect date - the one that got away, turns up to the wedding and nearly everything that can go wrong does she starts to panic. Worth a read to find out how she decides her fate.

It was an entertaining read that keeps you on the edge, wondering what will happen. It is different, the end is very heartfelt and this book is an emotional ride.

Audrey is about to tie the knot with Bad Jeans Josh as she affectionately first nicknamed him upon meeting when his sister rocks up to the rehearsal with a surprise guest... Photo booth guy! Is this a sign from above (one of many, mind!) that she is marrying the wrong man?

This book was intricately woven with time shifts to share Audrey's backstop. The host of characters was exceptional from Nactor Hillary to gregarious Granny Parker. A frolic of a read from start to end. Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for this honest review.

Audrey is due to get married to Josh. However before the wedding her what if man from years ago suddenly appears.

Is it a sign that the wedding shouldn't happen?

Enjoyable read.

What would you do if 'the one that got away' turned up the night before your wedding?

Head-in-the-stars Audrey is about to marry down-to-earth Josh. Though they are polar opposites, they have a healthy, stable relationship; Josh is just what Audrey needs. But romance should be unpredictable and full of fireworks, and as the big day approaches, Audrey's found herself wondering if Josh really is The One.

So, when Josh's sister shows up to the rehearsal dinner with Fred, Audrey's What If? guy--the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with--Audrey finds herself torn. Surely Fred's appearance the night before she is due to get married can't be a coincidence. And when everything that could go wrong with the wedding starts to go wrong, Audrey has to ask herself: Is fate trying to stop her from making a huge mistake? Or does destiny just have a really twisty sense of humour?

Thank you netgalley for the arc for before I do by Sophie Cousens in return for an honest review. Sophies books are always a real page turner and this one was no different. Thank you

I have loved so much Sophie’s other two books, they are a couple of my favourites from the past few years but this one just didn’t work for me. I didn’t like the message of it or the way it was written, it felt confusing to me the way that it kept going back and forth and was sort of told backwards. It just wasn’t for me! I didn’t love any of the characters and it’s definitely not one I would say is a natural follow up to her first couple which were very traditional romcoms.

Audrey is getting married soon, but lately she’s been wondering if her fiancé Josh is really “the one”. She still thinks about Fred, whom she met in collections through the unlimited meet cute. When he comes to the rehearsal dinner, Audrey thinks it might be Fate that’s telling her not to go through with her wedding.

I enjoyed this book, it’s well written and the characters are true to life. We all have someone in our past that we think about every now and then, imagine the confusion if they showed up the night before your wedding! 4 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.

💬 Have you ever asked yourself “What if...?”

Head-in-the-stars Audrey is about to marry Josh when her greatest "what if", Fred, shows up out of the blue at the rehearsal dinner as the "plus one" of one of the guests.
Fred was her first love, the perfect guy she met and loved on the most intense day of her life to never see him again. On the other hand, Josh is tender and caring but also so down-to-earth to seem her polar opposite.
So, as the big day approaches, Audrey finds herself wondering if it is a sign (or an omen) and if Josh really is her soulmate.

This was the first book I read by Cousens, and I really enjoyed this cute, funny, and unexpected romance.
What I loved the most was that nearly till the end I was torn by the virtual love triangle: not only I was not sure who Audrey would end up with, but also who I wished her to choose. I think that speaks volumes about Cousens’ ability to weave a compelling story.

The Author did an amazing job of alternating multiple timelines without making the reader feel lost. Rather, it contributed to giving depth to Audrey's character, highlighting her past and making us understand the reasons behind her doubts.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

A really good rom com book. Funny and sad in places.

Audrey is getting married to Josh. We see the book flitting back to the past and the present day. Things happen just before the wedding and at the wedding which seems as though fate is trying to tell them they are. It meant to get married.

I enjoyed the book and liked all the characters. It was funny in places and romance as well.

Well written.

I really enjoyed this light hearted rom com which explores fate and the one that got away .

This book had a touch of Serendipity about it.

I enjoyed this story even thought the jumping back and forth and between several timelines was a bit confusing. I was relieved to read in the Author's Note that even she had struggled with it. :)

Everyone has a "what if" guy, or a "what if" job or other "what if" decision in their lives. This book is a confirmation that this is completely normal. I recognized myself in so many situations!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an Advance Review Copy.

I really enjoyed "Before I do" from start to finish. All the characters were really likeable and with each chapter I was gripped to find out what happened next going forward and also what happened next in the past!
Normally I find books that jump timelines somewhat difficult to read and need to keep flicking back to remind myself of where I was, but Sophie's writing style is just perfect and the story flowed smoothly throughout.

If you like novels with lots of wedding drama and will they wont they, this is the novel for you. A great read with lots of laughs

This was a "I couldn't put it down" kind of book.
A Sophie Cousen's book is truly a charmer, a book that'll make you laugh, delight you and you'll insist all your friends read it. There are some crazy things that happen in it, crazy but totally not out of the possibility of actually happening.
There are multiple timelines in it so start each chapter looking at the timeline at the top of the page or you're going to be lost.
Our bride to be Audrey is set to marry Josh, but they are such opposites in so many ways.
In the days leading up to the wedding she starts to doubt if marrying is the right thing as she remembers a past relationship, of one day and can't stop thinking of it. It seemed so fun and that what if possibility lingers in her mind. The guy was so incredible and handsome. The possibilities are endless. Going back and forth from past times in this relationship to her time in the church leading up to the possibility of her wedding. There is a strong female friendship and a lot of support from her best friend, Clare at the church. I enjoyed Clare's character, she is there for Audrey every step of the way, Audrey's mother is there as well, she and her daughter are trying to get their adult relationship back on track. A guest from Audrey's past that she hasn't seen in over six years at her wedding has Audrey stressed and exhibiting self-doubt. Is Josh really the one she wants to spend the rest of her life with? I enjoyed Josh's character; he puts up with Audrey when she has panic attacks and self-doubt. He is the most supportive husband to be even at times I think Audrey may not deserve it. Such a peppy and full of surprises book. I recommend this book.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book that jumps between different timelines in the lead-up to the big wedding day, as well as the aftermath. The things that went wrong with the wedding could easily have been cringey and overdone but I think they were perfectly picked that it created such a fun book to read. I'm always a fan of multiple timelines too (when they are done well) and this was no different! I didn't find it difficult to follow and really enjoyed seeing the making of Audrey and Josh's relationship as it really highlighted how different they were.

SPOILER ALERT
...
...
I admit, I was really rooting for a different ending for about two thirds of the book. Like Audrey, I was swept up in the fantasy of it all. But, when I got to the final few chapters, I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way. The very final chapter in the far future brought a tear to my eye, as did the letter from her dad.

I loved both Josh and Fred and I was in such a conundrum in who she should choose. The supporting cast was also wonderful. Her best friend Clara, her mom Vivian, her nactor (nanny / actor, long story) Hillary, Josh's sister Miranda, and Josh's grandmother Granny Parker were all superb. I was 100% invested in the outcome from the very first page. Toward the end I even got teary eyed.
