I really struggled with this book. It was all so unbelievable, with unlikely characters, and I had to force myself to finish it. The story is well thought out, but ultimately didn't really grab me.

I really enjoyed this book, what great characters. Dr Lucas Page is a double amputee with one eye, and incredibly intelligent with maths and patterns, not so good with people skills. He has a lovely wife and lots of adopted children. He identifies a series of accidental deaths and suicides as suspicious, and works with the FBI and NYPD to track the murderers. It soon becomes evident it is a Stranger on a train scenario, with the murderers being manipulated by a mystery person. There are lots of plot twists and suspects, and I was still surprised at the end. Gripping, and also very funny, especially with Agent Whittaker's cars. I've just bought the first two books in the series.

Do No Harm is a fast-paced thriller set in New York and featuring Lucas Page, an astrophysicist, polymath, former FBI agent, and university professor with scarce social skills and state of the art prosthetics that are the result of injuries from a past investigation. His wife Erin is a surgeon and, during a medical gala, Lucas discovers that, in the last year, a high number of doctors have died. Their deaths have been declared accidents or natural causes, but Lucas sees a pattern in their deaths and he is convinced that there is a serial killer out there and they need to stop him before he kills again. This is the third novel in the Lucas Page series, but it can easily be read as a stand alone. I haven’t read the previous novels, but I had no problem following the narrative. All in all, I enjoyed the story, it’s thrilling and suspenseful, and I found the character of Lucas fascinating and interesting. Perfect for all crime fans!

I know I do bang on about reading series books in order and always recommend doing that. Sometimes it matters more that others but here I would nail that recommendation. For all the usual reasons but also cos the previous two books have been simply brilliant. Original and starring a rater unusual main character in Lucas Page. Or Captain Scarlet as I am now subtitling him as, unlike the vehicles in the books, he appears indestructible! But I get ahead of myself...
After the shenanigans of the previous book Lucas has quit all things law enforcement front line and settled back into academia. Yeah, like that's going to last!?!? Also becoming a better father to his and wife Erin's five adopted children. Erin is an eminent plastic surgeon and it is during an annual fund raiser with her peers that Lucas first hones in on how many of her colleagues have been lost to suicide or accident in the past year or so. In fact, another, and one of their closest friends, takes his own life the very same evening. Reluctant as he is to get back involved, he feels he has no choice. There's definitely something going on and he feels he has the skills to unravel it all. The FBI think otherwise so he has a bit of persuading to do, and then it all gets way too close to home...
I loved this book. As I did the previous two. There is something special about Lucas as a character and I am not just talking about his injuries or lac of real limbs here. I wish I could put it into words but I am no writer and I think if I tried to qualify it, to spell it out, the magic will be broken. Suffice to say, he's awesome in my eyes. And indestructible! And even more awesome and great when partnered with equally injury-full Special Agent Alice Whitaker. Remind me never to lend this pair a car though! SUV or otherwise...
Anyway... the plot is excellent, characters brilliant and the ending shocking and satisfying. There is no superfluous waffle or padding but some great humour which balanced the horrible crimey things going on.
All in all, a cracking addition to what must now be one of my top ten series. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Do no harm by Robert Pobi.
Lucas Page book 3.
A string of murders. A killer in the shadows. Only one man who can stop them...
Really good read. I did like Lucas. I'm looking forward to more from this series. 4*.

Lucas Page is a polymath, astrophysicist, professor, husband, father of five adopted children, bestselling author, and ex-FBI agent--emphasis on “ex.” Severely wounded after being caught in an explosion, Page left the FBI behind and put his focus on the rebuilding the rest of his life. But Page is uniquely gifted in being able to recognize patterns that elude others, a skill that brings the F.B.I. knocking at his door again and again.
Lucas Page’s wife Erin loses a friend, a gifted plastic surgeon, to suicide and Lucas begins to realize how many people Erin knew that have died in the past year, in freak accidents and now suicide. Intrigued despite himself, Page begins digging through obituaries and realizes that there’s a pattern--a bad one. These deaths don’t make sense unless the doctors are being murdered, the target of a particularly clever killer. This time, the FBI wants as little to do with Lucas as he does with them so he’s left with only one option--ignore it and go back to his normal life. But then, the pattern reveals that the next victim is likely to be...Erin herself.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary

I'm conflicted about this book. The plot is good and fast-paced and you're guessing to the end. However, for me, the main character is too fantastical and so are many of the others. I think it was David Niven who said, "When the Shah of Persia comes to dinner, you don't write a book about the butler". I get that but I found Lucas Page too over the top. Still three stars and worth reading, though.

I had never read a Robert Pobi book before, and I will certainly be reading more! So, I am grateful to the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Dr Lucas Page, astrophysicist, university professor and former FBI agent, is settling into life away from the heat of the action. He hopes the days putting his extraordinary skills to use hunting New York City's deadliest killers are behind him. Now, he looks forward to a quiet life raising his children and supporting his wife Erin's career as an esteemed surgeon.
However, while attending an annual gala event with his wife, Erin, an esteemed surgeon, he is intrigued by the memorial video of the deaths of so many doctors. That becomes the setting for a serial killer extraordinaire, and a taregt is Lucas's wife, Erin.
The characterisations, especially Dr Lucas Page, are outstanding and add superb flavour to a story that twists and turns with the best of them. The storyline, though a little slow to start, picked up great pace as the plot evolved, and it will leave you wondering just what will come next?
Fast-paced and action-packed, Do No Harm is an edge-of-your-seat thriller with memorable characters and gripping twists.

*4.5 stars*

Dr Lucas Page, astrophysicist, university professor and former FBI agent is supposed to be taking things easy these days. He wants a quiet life helping to raise his kids while supporting his wife Erin, a renowned surgeon.
However, while attending a medical gala with Erin, he’s shocked by a video in memory of all the doctors who have died in the last year, and (Page being Page) recognises patterns that no one else does (he’s something of a phenomenon when it comes to numbers and patterns). He believes the doctors were murdered, meaning Erin is also in danger!

Ok, so he’s supposed to be taking it easy, but Page can’t do that after what he’s just seen, so he contacts his buddies at the FBI and he soon discovers that the patterns he saw were correct - which means they’re looking for a serial killer. He’s joined in this particular endeavour by Detective Johnny Russo and Special Agent Alice Whitaker.

Those of you already familiar with the depth of Page’s investigative work won’t be disappointed, it’s just unbelievably clever (well done Mr Pobi). The storyline is exciting, well plotted, full of tension, with some great twists and turns, and I love how Lucas’s bad temper and cantankerous personality is offset by Whitaker’s humour. Just genius!

This was my first read of a book by Robert Pobi and I had no idea this was the third in a series, so as a standalone, this works very well.

In terms of the actual plot, I didn't think it was that great. If you're familiar with certain Agatha Christie stories, you'll know exactly what's going on very early.

I found the characterisations not great either. I get that Lucas was unlikeable but a genius, but neither really seemed effectively pulled off to me, especially since he's managed to build a loving family around him despite being so grouchy and impossible to get along with.

So although I did enjoy reading this, I didn't think it was amazing.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC without obligation.

From the first few pages of this book I was hooked and wanted to keep on reading whenever possible. Well written and intriguing and only discovered after finishing it that this is the third of the Lucas Page books.

Did I have a clue as to what, who and why? Not really until just before it became obvious.

This is one of the best books I've read for a while and if you like crime books with a bit of a difference then get this.

I was so impressed that I've gone and purchased the first two books in the series and am looking out for other books by Robert pobi.

I never repeat the blurb. Oh how I have been waiting for this next outing for Dr Lucas Page. Another absolutely brilliant opportunity to portray these super characters in a gripping tale of murder and mystery. While the underlying plot was reasonably easy to deduce, the final twist was certainly not apparent and it made for a superb read. More please!! Would so love to see this series dramatised.

Astrophysicist, maths genius and ex-FBI agent, Dr Lucas Page is back in another fast-paced thriller. He left the FBI after losing an arm, leg and eye in a terrible accident and after working for them again as a consultant is still recovering from the further injuries he received in that case, and has no intention of working with them again. However, reluctantly attending a medical charity fundraiser with his doctor wife Erin, he was idly watching the list of New York doctors who had died in the last year and noticed that a statistically impossible number died from accidents or suicide. Contacting the FBI, he asked them to take a closer look at those deaths and indeed at least thirty do indeed look suspiciously like murders. Soon he is back with Special Agent Alice Whitaker, still recovering from her own injuries in their last job together, as they try to find some link between the murdered doctors and identify their killers.

This is a complex case which Lucas finds frustratingly hard to crack as there doesn’t seem to be any links between the victims. When a friend of Erin’s is found dead in a staged suicide, he knows they have to find the killer/s to stop these deaths happening. Whitaker and Lucas are assisted by NYPD cop, Johnny Russo, who recently investigated the suicide of a female doctor in what now looks suspicious. Russo takes an especial shine to Lucas, even as he receives Lucas’ trademark rudeness back in return.

Before the team even starts to get a hint of who is behind the murders, there will be more killings, a lot of solid police work looking at every angle of all the cases again, not to mention Lucas’ applying his special skill in searching massive data sets. The novel also focuses on Lucas’ home life with Erin and their five adopted children, especially after Lucas becomes aware that his Erin might be in danger herself from whoever is killing off doctors.

As always, the banter between Whitaker and Lucas is often hilarious, as is the running joke through the novel regarding Whitaker’s cars, which keep being successively written off. The action is fast paced and the suspense never lets up as the plot twists and turns, culminating in a spectacular high-speed chase through the streets of New York. This is a terrific addition to the series and I hope there will be many more occasions when the FBI needs to call in Lucas to apply his special skills to an investigation.

Lucas Page is a man with a history - having lost an eye, an arm and leg to previous adventures, but he has a very insightful mind and this is brought into play as he picks up that the death of his friend is not a random killing or suicide, but part of a much wider picture and series of deaths. Page is not a man big on social niceties, indeed the author goes rather over the top to stress his single-mindedness, even comparing his brain functions to a computer on more than one occasion, which rather pushed it all too far for me.

The story is told well, and although as a reader I could see the patterns and likely developments way ahead of the characters (and I don't have a computer brain) I didn't actually predict the final culprit.

A good read. Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is indeed both fast paced and action packed and does everything it promises!
Lucas is a great character- reluctant socialiser, super logical, all for a quiet life and still recovering from serious injury but dragged front and centre into the investigation of a series of inexplicable deaths- too many doctors dying too frequently and with too many accidents or suicides to be considered "normal".

The investigation is fantastic and the unveiling of the motive and method min boggling.

Doctor Lucas Page is an astrophysicist with a difference, not only does he see patterns in data, he manages to do all this whilst having a false eye, plus an artificial arm and leg.

This story was absolutely high octane, I could not put it down.

Lucas Page accompanies his wife to a charity dinner in aid of the hospital where she works, during the evening there is an 'in Memoriam' section, during this Lucas realises there is a pattern and not all the accidental deaths appear to be just that.

Thoroughly enjoyable and the twist at the end........ what can I say!!

Highly recommended

Dr Lucas Page is not your average investigative character basically at least disliked by the vast majority of people he comes into contact with. But his results speak for themselves, as this is the first time I’ve read one of his adventures I don’t know how he has acquired his various serious injuries, one eye one arm one leg but boy it doesn’t affect his brainpower. The actual story is a violent mix of graphically depicted murders with details of his unusual family life with sundry adopted children, his surgeon wife and a live in double amputee friend. The complex details of the story are somewhat baffling at times but there is a degree of dark humour that keeps one entertained right up to the shock twist in the tail ending. Rather superb and I shall endeavour to get the previous tales!

Well that wasn’t very good for my nerves! Must read and you will need to read fast as it’s cliffhanger after cliffhanger and a lot of cars were ruined in this production. Read it to make this review make sense 😂

4,5 stars rounded up

A series of suicides and accidential deaths in the medical community are actually well-disguised murders and only Lucas Page can see the pattern and discern the truth that no one else believes. Lucas Page is a Polymath, astrophyscist, professor, husband, father of five adopted children, bestselling author, and ex FBI agent - emphasis on "ex." Severely wounded after being caught in an explosion, Page left the FBI behind. Lucas Page's wife, Erin, looses a friend, a gifted plastic surgeon, to suicide and Lucas begins to realise how many people Erin knew had died in the past year, in freak accidents, now suicide.

Dr Lucas Page solves what seems like impossible crimes with the FBI's New York Fiel Office. Lucas is looking into the deaths of over thirty physicians who had been categorised as suicide, accidential death or natural causes. Now his wife, Erin, is in danger. The story is told mainly from Lucas's point of view. I like the rapport between Lucas and Special Agent Alice Whitaker. The pace is fast from the first page and doesn't let up all the way through. This is a well written, action packed page turner. It's tense. funny and the suspense builds throughout.

4/5 Very Good.

The 3rd book in the Lucas Page series, and 2nd I’ve read and this is an excellent addition to the series.

High octane thrills and spills are the name of the game here as this relentless thriller never lets off the Gas,

Lucas Page is a very distinctive protagonist for many reasons and he is as good as ever in this story about what appears to be the mass murder of health professionals.

It’s clever, intelligent, full of action and really is packed with booms and bangs, it’s very explosive stuff, has a great finale and it just screams Hollywood

Fine stuff indeed.
