would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this fascinating book into the strange world of lucas page

this one is book three in the series but can be read as a standalone

lucas and his wife erin are at a function one that lucas doesnt want to be at but whilst there he watches a montage of photos all are prominent doctors that have been lost and whilst watching lucas with he unique abilities spots what everyone else has missed....that someone has been killing doctors and getting away with it.

as he tries to bring this to the attention of the police and fbi....as his disposition with everyone sets everyone on edge...another doctor is found dead by supposedly suicide only this time the doctor in question is a friend of lucas and his wife....and this time lucas wants answers..

oh my i feel as though i have been pulled through a wringer and need to relax to think, there are moments in lucas world that is funny and light but the way he sees data and everyday things can be very heavy, the light-heartedness in this book more than make up for the heavy data loaded and sometimes heavy explanations that go hand in hand when lucas is around..

but it doesnt put me off reading this series as its fun to see this world that lucas lives in...

I had never read a Robert Pobi book before this - clearly my loss! Hence i had no idea what to expect from the lead character Dr Lucas Pope. What an introduction! Think of someone with sharp scientific brain of Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhymes and you're part way there, as this guy is mobile, though restricted as he has two prosthetic limbs, apparently from an incident in a previous book in the series.. Pope's an Astro-physicist with a deep understanding of statistics and probability that he puts to good use when using his crime solving abilities as a consultant with the FBI.

He has an intense acerbic way with people, He doesn't suffer fools gladly, in fact he doesn't suffer anyone gladly apart from his wife and family and sometimes the one FBI Agent Whitaker who accompanies him on cases.

Dr Popes diminutive wife Erin is a surgeon and when a colleague and friend of hers apparently commits suicide she askes her husband to look into the circumstances. It turns out not to be a suicide but a murder and this sets Pope and the FBI on unravelling a complex web of murders of other doctors some of which had appeared originally to be suicides, In the course of the investigations there are attempts on the life of Erin, Pope and Whitaker who personally writes off more cars than anyone could imagine happening to one person.

The book is quite long , but it didn't seem so when I was reading it as the story unfolds an an incredible pace. It's an incredibly well write book, and I found it a pleasure to read, Some of the incidents might be a bit too gruesome for readers with the sensitive nature.

My first book by this author and it won't be the last.
A really good read plenty of twists and turns that kept the storyline flowing and the unexpected twist at the end blew my mind.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC.

A most unusual take on a police procedural thriller.
Lucas Page is a fascinating character (and would be a nightmare to work with!) who sees patterns, or the lack of them, in everything which means he picks up on anomalies that others don't.
Beautifully written and often humourous, I found myself reading sentences out to the family which is the sign of a really engaging piece of work.
There are a lot of characters to remember but the plot is excellent with a very satisfying conclusion.
Many thanks for the escapism

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the invite to read this book.

Robert Pobi is a new author to me so I began reading this not knowing quite what to expect. What can I say - except I thoroughly enjoyed this read and that it really exceeded my expectations. I think this is the third in a series and whilst there are references to events in previous books, this can still be read on it’s own in my opinion. I will definitely read the previous books though when I can.

Dr Lucas Page is an Astrophysicist, an ex FBI agent and sees patterns with events that generally no one else can. So when he realises a number of Doctor deaths are not all as they seem, he and the FBI investigate further. I really liked the main character and Whitaker, the FBI agent. The case takes a worrying and personal turn for Page when his wife is targeted. Page and Whitaker follow every lead, with help from a Police Officer and as they get closer to finding out who is behind these deaths and why they find their own lives in danger. I think this is a very well written book with a great plot line, and a read which definitely kept me engaged and entertained. I loved the many separate story threads here, all the twists that still kept me guessing and lots of action scenes. I thought I knew who was behind the deaths and was wrong. Very wrong.

If you like a book that is impossible to put down, one that just pulls you in right from the first page, is full of action and thrills then this book is possibly for you. I’d definitely recommend this book and will read more by this Author in future.

4.5 stars

This book is the third in a series, with Lucas Page the main character and a complex one at that; an astrophysicist with significant psychical disabilities, he sees patterns where others do not. So, when he notices that a number of medical deaths don't appear random or accidental, he tries to persuade the FBI that there is a serial killer at work.

Perhaps because I haven't read the previous books, but, I found the characters initially, difficult to engage with and at times, the language stilted and plot uneven. However, overall, I found it to be a decent 'good read' with an interesting plot line and a surprising outcome.

Thanks to Hodder and Stoughton and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview in exchange for this honest review.

Wow, what a fantastic book this was to read. Great characters and a storyline that had you hooked as you read through the book very eager to see what was happening next! Highly recommended.

The main character is an Astro-physicist and that is very much the way the book is written. But if you overlook that it is a fabulous story with many twists not least the last one !!!!

This book was exactly what I needed after a string of good but depressing stories. I had tried, unsuccessfully, to get my hands on a Robert Pobi book a few years ago so when this one was offered to me I jumped at it despite it being #3 in a series.

Dr Lucas Page is a brilliant astrophysicist who has an uncanny ability to see patterns in data that no one else does so he is often called upon by the FBI to interpret things. The fact that he has an artificial arm, an artificial leg and a false eye doesn’t slow him down at all. These injuries were not explained in this book except for some vague references to “the event”. I might have to read the earlier books to learn more. His wife Dr Erin Page is a surgeon and they have five children, some of which at least are adopted. Lucas himself was adopted and is paying it forward.

The doctors Page attend an annual medical fraternity dinner at which there is always a memorial mention of hospital doctors who have died in the last year. On this occasion the number seems unusually high and there is a significant number of strange accidents and suicides. Lucas ponders this and decides there’s something fishy going on. The very fact that everything about the deaths seems to be totally random proves to him that it is most definitely not random. He takes his concerns to the FBI and when they don’t bite he gives them an 8 page calculation proving it.

Long story short, the deaths are reevaluated and slowly but surely they are all shown to be suspicious. Who is killing doctors and why? He works with Detective Russo from the precinct of the latest death and is also partnered up with Special Agent Whittaker who is still recovering from the last case they worked together. I loved the Lucas character, he has no sense of humour but I found his outcome focussed, curmudgeonly approach quite amusing. Whittaker is very droll and has the dubious distinction of writing off every vehicle that she is assigned. Well it’s not her fault that bodies tend to fall on them from a great height although she does drive like the devil is at her heels!

Things get more serious when Erin is targeted and shot while returning from a shopping trip with the kids. This time Whittaker is solely responsible for a one woman demolition derby as she races to get Erin to the hospital before she bleeds out. Now the gloves are off and Lucas is solely focussed on solving this case. It was very cleverly written and a diabolical mystery. With twists aplenty and many red herrings and lots of pulse pounding action. Did I mention the action? And the jaw dropping twists? It may have gotten a little bonkers towards the end but I was fully invested in this memorable story that it mattered not. I loved every minute of it! Robert Pobi has a new fan! Many thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an advance copy of Do No Wrong, the third novel set in New York City to feature Dr Lucas Page, astrophysicist and FBI consultant.

Lucas is determined to stop working with the FBI and concentrate on his day job and family, but a memorial to recently deceased doctors at a gala dinner shows him a pattern of deaths that only he can see. Believing he may be looking at a serial killer who kills doctors he goes to the FBI with his suspicions and puts his wife, Erin, in danger.

I have not read this series before and didn’t know what to expect from Do No Harm, so I’ll need to get my breath back before I go any further. This is a high octane novel that never seems to let up - I lost count of the number of bodies, wrecked cars and general mayhem throughout the novel.

The novel is told mostly from Lucas’s point of view with other voices chipping in from time to time, but as they are mostly on the good guys’ side it is not distracting and offers a broader perspective on events. There is little hint for most of the novel on who the killer is or why (s)he’s doing it although the motive becomes apparent earlier than any identity. In most novels I would find this opacity a bit frustrating but here it doesn’t seem to matter as the reader’s attention is caught up in all the events that are taking place. In fact I liked the way the author starts with Lucas’s germ of a theory and expands it into something more convoluted as the twists keep coming.

So the novel has more action than most and a clever plot that keeps the reader engrossed, but it is also funny and had me chuckling. Apart from the running joke of Lucas and his partner Special Agent Alice Whittaker’s propensity for destroying cars their dialogue has its moments. He appears to have little sense of humour and is generally grumpy, so he gets teased for it.

I would have rated the novel at 5* for its general exuberance and fun, but I didn’t get any of the American references and that was frequently annoying.

Do No Harm is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

4.5 rounded up
Lucas Page #3

Lucas Page is a genius astrophysicist professor and ex-FBI who can see patterns most of us can’t, interpret them and discern truths. To say he is a bit physically damaged is an understatement, one prosthetic leg, one prosthetic arm, a glass eye and a bad haircut. There has been a series of apparent suicides of people linked to medicine and many targeted are friends of his surgeon wife Erin. Lucas will do what he has to in order to protect Erin as who knows if she could be the next victim. He is joined in this endeavour by Detective Russo who has a penchant for Gatorade and vodka (rather you than me mate) and SA Alice Whitaker. To describe her as a speed Demon is like saying Lewis Hamilton quite likes fast cars.

Wowza! This is like reading an action packed thriller movie with the pre-requisite car chases, guns, et cetera et cetera but with the addition of several laugh out loud moments. The opening scene sure grabs your attention and is certainly vivid utilising a famous NYC location and weather for the added bonus of atmosphere.

It’s a rollercoaster read, with a clever plot packed with suspects who raise your suspicion antenna and some excellent red herrings for good measure. There’s plenty of suspense, some OTT violence, correction, rather a lot of OTT violence some of which is outlandish, bizarre and utterly jawdropping. I lap it up! What can I say about the ending? Well, my spidey senses are having an off day and veer in the wrong direction.

I love the humour especially between Lucas and Whitaker, their dialogue is very smart and highly entertaining. Lucas is fascinating, so clever, yes he is blunt and rude, definitely not a people person but I couldn’t help but like him and his family. Some scenes between Lucas, Whitaker and those that cross their path are beyond tense, there’s often with the car involved and they are simply breathtaking. Creative use is made of New York which adds to the fantastic cinematic drama.

Overall, I love the way this is written with the tone being everything from outright funny to ironic to a thrill a minute exciting. It’s a cracking read, just off for a lie down to recover! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Hodder and Stoughton for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review

This is the latest stunning high octane fuelled, action packed, and fast paced thriller in Robert Pobi's series featuring Dr Lucas Page, polymath, astrophysicist, university professor and former FBI agent, and father to 5 adopted children, with his state of the art prosthetics. Still recovering from his last set of injuries, he is planning on settling into life away from the heat of the action. He hopes the days of putting his extraordinary gifts in pattern recognition, put to use hunting New York City's deadliest killers are behind him. Now, he is looking forward to a quiet life raising his children and supporting his wife Erin's work as a surgeon. There is going to be no chance of this, attending a medical charity bash with Erin, Page is surprised by the annual memorial video documenting the high number of doctors who have died in apparent accidents or by suicide. Something is very wrong, it just isn't possible statistically that these could be random deaths.

Doctors are being murdered, including a close friend of Erin's, plastic surgeon Dr Dove Knox, this is going to be a tough, challenging bare knuckle investigation that Page has no choice but to work flat out on, for the killer has his eyes on his wife, Erin, as a target. He has to call on the FBI, drawing on its vast resources, led by Special Agent in Charge, Brett Kehoe and his team for assistance, they and every other law enforcement agency had missed these murders entirely. It soon emerges that Page has unearthed a widespread and well organised deadly operation to wipe out members of the medical profession. He is aided by his old partner, Special Agent Alice Whitaker, still recovering from her injuries and using a cane, and they are joined by ex-military NYPD Detective Johnny 'Jackets' Russo, who takes an immediate shine to Page, unfazed by Page's trademark cantankerousness and rudeness.

It goes almost without saying that Page and Whitaker are going to collect a new set of injuries as they race against time to find those behind the murders, particularly with the rising number of dead and the increasing danger that threatens them and Lucas's family. Highlights for me include the dry and witty banter between Lucas and Alice, and the insights into Lucas's children and household, adding a greater depth to his otherwise rock hard anti-social personality. This is a dark, engaging, a thrill a minute read with numerous twists and turns, and the non-stop tension and suspense kept me turning the pages as fast as I possibly could, entertained as practically every new FBI SUV that is issued to Page and Whitaker is wrecked almost immediately. This is a great series that will appeal to those readers who love well written and well plotted superior thrillers with great, complex characters. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

This book was quite different from the usual detective book. The main character was unique, and the pace of the book and the story was good. Well worth a read.

This book kept me turning the pages to find out if the killer would succeed. I was getting invested in the characters lives to the point I think the odd tear escaped. There were numerous twists and I never saw the twist near the end or even suspected it. In my opinion a definite one to read if you like thrillers. I loved it!!

Lucas Page is a high level investigator, who notices patterns where no one else can, because there are few people who have his skills with numbers
When he attends a social event with Erin he notices that many doctors have died, in so called accidents or suicides, but he thinks they are homicides. I will not reveal any more of the plot, in case I spoil the novel.
I would recommend the book as a good read, and thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.

The title Do No Harm tells the reader what to expect: a book where medical doctors play a big role. But not as you might think, not because they’ve willingly caused harm. Unfortunately, their role is limited to being victims of very cleverly executed killings. Luca Page discovers something strange in a list of ‘colleagues who died recently’ that is shown at a fundraiser he attends together with Erin. It is statistically just not possible, all those doctors dying so soon after each other. Lucas discovers a pattern behind the pattern (luckily this is explained in detail in the book) but as the reader may expect, there is also something wrong with the pattern. Lucas wouldn’t be Lucas if he wasn’t very intrigued but as soon as he learns that one of his best friends is found dead, he really begins to think there is something not right. Not with the victims but also, we learn further in the story, not with the killers.
Words fail me to describe how this story made me feel. It is such an incredible clever plot, with great characters, lots of action, interesting things to think about and some red herrings thrown in. It left me breathless.

City of Windows was one of my favourite thrillers of 2019, a complex and inventive tale that intrigued me from the very start. Not only that, but it introduced Dr Lucas Page a former FBI agent who has a number of interesting ‘differences’. Firstly, he lacks an arm and a leg – these being replaced by state of the art prosthetics – but more importantly he is a master of numbers, with an ability to compute and analyse information that it would normally take a bank of computers to replicate. This is all used to the full and his extraordinary skills pretty much held this story together. In Under Pressure, the second book in the series, it seemed to me that Pobi struggled somewhat to overcome the lack of surprise that Windows had served up. The story was okay, but Page’s skills weren’t so well fitted to the challenge he faced and as a result it all felt somewhat leaden.

So what to do with book 3? Well, the author has made what I believe to be the right choice in deciding to expand the way in which readers engage with not only Page but also his family unit: wife Erin and a bunch of children of varying ages. There’s a lot more about Page the man here, he’s still got his taciturn ways and he’s rude beyond belief but this has somehow become increasingly engaging. Some other carry over characters are here too and suddenly I’m starting to feel about Page what I’ve long felt about some other fictional characters I follow (Harry Bosch, Dave Robicheaux, John Rebus and Guido Brunetti instantly spring to mind). That is to say, I want to know what’s happening to them and those around them.

The story here is a step up from Book 2 also, with Page becoming aware of the fact that an awful lot of doctors in the New York metropolitan area are seeming to meet an untimely death. His wife is a surgeon so this one feels close to home. How it plays out from here I’ll leave readers to discover for themselves, but what I would say is that it somehow recreates the excitement I originally experienced with this character with quite a bit less of the ‘superpower’ input. It’s clever it’s fast paced and it held me firmly in its grip throughout. Outstanding, I loved it.

The third book to feature Lucas PAGE who not your usual crime fighter. He is an astrophysicist with a talent to see patterns and connections in events that others would miss. Lucas is often called upon by the FBI when they have a complicated and difficult case. In this book accidental deaths and suicides in the medical profession has raised a red flag and the FBI has asked Lucas for help.
What ensues is a wild ride and a real page turner. Packed to the rafters with tension and suspense, full of fast paced action and the banter between Lucas and Special Agent Alice Whitaker is priceless, full of hilarious one liners and some of the most razor sharp humour I have ever read in a book. This book has everything. I had my list of suspects which i had great delight in whittling down and I still got it wrong, always a bonus for me. A fantastic five star read loved it!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

5 massive stars and more !
I hadn’t realised just how much I had missed this series until I started this third instalment and immediately I was drawn into the story and wow what a story it is !
So we are back with the wonderful Lucas Page an astrophysicist (with a brain I would die for) who has the ability to see patterns and connections in what would seem to be completely random events and information and when he sees a link to what seems to be accidental deaths or suicide in the medical profession alarm bells begin ring in his head and from then on it’s a rollercoaster ride and the pace just never lets up.
What makes this book for me apart from the ingenious plot is the razor sharp humour, the rapport between Lucas and Special Agent Alice Whitaker is brilliant and they make a funny and superb team although a warning never let Whitaker borrow your car! The other characters from previous books are here also and they too are wonderfully written as it the book because try as I might I never guessed the perpetrator.
So a book I loved it had everything that makes a 5 star read I can’t wait for more and many thanks to Robert Pobi for a thrill a minute read.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
