Super Easy Knitting for Beginners, Patterns, Projects, and Tons of Tips for Getting Started in Knitting by Carri Hammett
Had to load via my computer, graphics are so high quality the tablet couldn't handle them.
This book starts out with table of contents and lot sof introduction material. It's so easy to knit and it's enjoyable.
This book explains what you will need and has charts of different sizes of things so you can be sure to get right size for your needs.
With pictures and sketches the explanations are so much easier.
Basic stitches are taught and they advance your knowledge with projects they have selected.
Each pattern starts with a title, summary of the project then in shaded area:
what you will learn, what you will need as far as supplies and notions,
gauge and terms used are included and how to do the stitches.
All the pictures along with instructions are included for each project.
Love swatching and keeping them all then I can assemble them into a blanket.
For my charity work I knit afghans for babies and the one in this book will be the one I start on when yarn arrives.
So basic, simple and beautiful. many advances techniques are shown also and if you go through all the lessons there should be NO problems for you, as a beginner.
Troubleshooting tips and tricks are included at the end along with how to fix mistakes.
About the author is included also.
A KEEPER! Has everything you need to know about knitting.
Received this review copy from Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, New Shoe Press via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

I have been knitting for a few decades now but I approached this book as if I was a complete beginner.

The book takes you from simple basic stitches to more advances techniques. It starts with the basics of knitting with crystal clear step by step instructions and lots of tips and helpful photos. It includes everything you need to know before you start including yarns, tolls and handy extras. There is so much in this book that I would have loved to know when I started knitting!
All projects state what you will learn and what you will need at the start of each pattern.

Each new chapter builds on previous skills learned and adds additional skills so you are advancing your knitting prowess. There are chapters on stripes, colour blending, stranded knitting and adding beads. You won’t just be knitting scarves and beanies.

Hand knitting is making a comeback with online groups to give a helping hand, charity groups and face to face groups popping up everywhere.

I liked that needle size is given in US sizing and mm, as sizing is different in Australia. Google did come in handy with some of the wool weights.

Super Easy Knitting for Beginners is a comprehensive and well explained guide to knitting that I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn the craft.

I learned to knit in the nineteen-fifties: it wasn't a choice, it was a requirement. Girls learned to knit and to embroider and boys did wood and metal work. My knitting was accompanied by a lot of criticism and quite a few tears: it was a long time before I realised that there was a pleasure to be had in the skill. Nearly seventy years later it's the only thing that keeps my hands at all supple. The turning point was a booklet published by Patons which gave all the basics and some patterns. I've been looking for something simple to recommend to people who'd like to master the skill. So, how did Super Easy Knitting For Beginners work out?

In seven chapters we learn the basics of knitting: each chapter covers a skill, tells you what you'll need, such as the type of yarn and size of needles and you're encouraged to make a practice swatch even if you've no intention of making the project for which you're given the pattern. There's also further online content to help you.

The yarn recommended - and used in some of the patterns and swatches - is Cascade 220. It's 100% wool which is more forgiving for a beginner and not exorbitantly priced. I've found it available online but not in such outlets as Hobbycraft. If you're looking for a substitute then you'll find yarnsub helpful. The site will also give substitutes for other yarns in the book. I liked Carri Hammett's advice on choosing needles: many of my needles originally belonged to my mother but they wouldn't necessarily be the best tools for a beginner as they're heavy and quite slippery in use.

I've always used different methods for casting on but I tried Hammett's method. It takes a little mastering but does provide a good edge and base to work from. Instructions for knitting and binding off (or casting off, as it's called in the UK) are good. I particularly liked the instructions for joining in a new ball of yarn. The first project is a scarf and it's interesting to see how playing about with the weight of the yarn and the size of the needles changes the finished look. Imagination is encouraged at a very early stage!

Skills are introduced gradually and in a way which gives you confidence. For your second project, you could be making a baby blanket which introduces the purl stitch and stockinette (I know it as stocking) stitch. The blanket is rather beautiful and would make a lovely gift. Increasing and decreasing it is taught by making a felted Christmas tree. It's ingenious and a very clever way to teach the skills and you'll even learn how to felt.

Knitting in the round seems to frighten novice knitters. I learned on double-pointed needles but circular needles make this a simple skill. The hat pattern starts on circular needles but changes to double pointed for the decreases at the crown. As for the patterns, the one I'm most likely to make is the leaf-edge shawl which is pretty and useful. With a little practice, you could be making this soon after you learn the basics. I could also be tempted by the striped cotton bathroom rug as it might be the only way of getting the precise colours I want in the shower room!

By the time that you get to the end of the book, you'll feel confident in your knitting and be able to tackle some quite difficult and demanding projects, such as the lace curtain panels complete with curtain rod casing. If I had to quibble about the book it would be that there are rather a lot of scarves - but that is me being very picky!

I'd like to thank the publishers for letting Bookbag have a review copy.

Colorful with lots of instruction, but this is another book that just made me feel overwhelmed. I really think the best way to learn to knit, sew, crochet, etc. is from a person but this is a pretty good book if that's not an option. I was still overwhelmed but that may be just me. Lots of good photos and some fun projects.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

This book is a great addition to a new knitters library as it cover knitting from the basics to texture and shaping, knitting in the round, felting and color and lace. Skills that are all necessary in making knitwear and reading patterns.
There are projects that start simple and get harder as one progresses into the book, The projects are well illustrated and easy to follow. I really like this book and picked up some tips myself from it
Thanks you NetGalley and Fox Chapel for the DCR

If I was a beginner to knitting g this would be a good book to start with.

It gives you the basics and foundation that will help you become a good knitter.
My Nan taught me many many years ago. I was impressed with this book though.

I also loved how the author addressed the left handed and right handed knitter. I’ve not seen many books do that.

OMG as a young person starting g out my Nan never hardly followed patterns. She had been taught by her mother at the age of 5! She was so dam good so that held me back growing up and when I saw this author had addressed ‘how to read a pattern’ I loved it.

Reading a pattern isn’t just about what number needles you need or yarn, there’s tension, and reading the abbreviations too can set you in a twirl if you do t know.

I’d recommend this to everyone starting out

I have been a fan of knitting for ages but never managed to learn how to knit. The piles of yarn and knitting needles would say otherwise but I was never able to find a tool that truly helped me start to learn the knitting process. "Super Easy Knitting fir Beginners" by: Carri Hammett was an amazing tool for anyone who is new at the craft of knitting / wants to get started.

The directions were clear and concise and it really helped me accomplish my own personal goal of starting to knit. I'm not a knitting pro but I can at least say I have now gotten started thanks to this book. The instructions are clear and very helpful and overall the experience has been great. I will return to this book over and over as I work through my knitting journey.

Well organized with detailed illustrations, Super Easy Knitting for Beginners is a perfect guide for beginning knitters. It covers everything - selecting yarn, needles, gauges, swatches and, of course, the basic knit and purl stitches. Techniques are taught through different projects: a baby blanket, table runner, scarf, hat and more. Each project has something new to learn. For instance, the illustrations for one scarf show the difference needle sizes have on the finished border. Another scarf has instructions for a border and a hat pattern teaches the knitter to add ribbing to keep the edge from rolling up. Although Super Easy Knitting for Beginners is obviously geared to the new knitter, more experienced crafters can also learn from this book. The projects themselves will make great gifts for birthdays and holidays. 5 stars.

Good instruction for anyone new to knitting. Covers all you need to know to get started and a good place to look if you are following a pattern and are not sure about how to do it. Projects as standard in other books. Scarfs (so boring for a beginner) hats, shawls, strangely a knitted curtain?
Still a good starter book.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Super Easy Knitting for Beginners by Carri Hammett in exchange for an honest review. My mom was a master spinner, weaver, and knitter and taught me the basics. Since she died, I realized how much I didn't get around to learning. This book definitely helps fill in the gaps and get me closer to my mom's memory. Thank you for the book.

Many people turned to knitting during Covid. If you felt left behind by this trend and would like to learn to knit now, this book offers a terrific resource for beginners. Following a helpful and practical introduction, a number of projects are introduced. They are organized by skill set as, for example, Basic Knitting or Knitting in the Round. Within each set are projects. Some of these include a scarf, a baby blanket and a hat. There is also a section on putting projects together. There is, in addition, a helpful troubleshooting guide.

Throughout there are many illustrations to guide the beginner. I also liked how for each project there was a section on what would be learned and what would be needed for that project.

So get out those needles. Imagine how it will feel to complete a project or two.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto-Quarry-New Shoe Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC to read and review.

I started to learn to knit earlier this year, but it took a lot of trial and error. This book would have been very helpful for someone like me. It gives clear and easy instructions and even has links for videos to watch for those who are visual learners. Great book if you want to learn to knit!

The perfect reference for new knitters- or for those who have forgotten some of the basics, as well as other intricate information, such as edging, increasing, and decreasing stitches. This handy book incorporates felting into knitting projects.

Super Easy Knitting for Beginners : Patterns, Projects, and Tons of Tips for Getting Started in Knitting is the absolute beginners guide to learning the craft of knitting. It provides step by step instructions right from the beginning with illustrations and pictures throughout. There are swatches to try out the techniques and then a project pattern to follow. To be honest a few of the projects I can't see anyone making. Who would really hang a knitted curtain ? but that isn't the point, it is all about learning the techniques. Overall a good tutorial guide.

I have been wanting to learn to knit for ages and have had a hard time with intro books I've tried to use in the past, but I really enjoyed this one!

I liked that it starts with absolute basics and that it provides a link to videos if the reader requires further elaboration. I also like that the author recommends practice swatches after each new skill. The instructions were laid out in an easy way to understand. I have not yet tried some of the more complicated patterns as I think I need to try a few more scarves, but I am looking forward to getting there!
